Four abducted Serbs released on Monday
December 26, 2000
Bujanovac, December 25 (Tanjug) - Four Serb youths, abducted by
ethnic Albanian terrorists in the ground security zone two days ago,
were released late Monday and are at their homes already, Tanjug's
reporter has learnt.
Substantial efforts by the Yugoslav authorities and their cooperation
with KFOR secured the release of brothers Goran and Milisav Miljkovic,
aged 24 and 26, their friends Sasa Pesic, 24, and Milan Kostic, 17.
After leaving the Cerevajke police checkpoint and setting off in a car for
Kosovo-Metohija Saturday afternoon, Pesic, Kostic, and the Miljkovic
brothers - the elder had come from Switzerland to spend the New Year
and Christmas holidays with his family - were abducted and taken
towards the village of Depce.
The four were on their way home to the village of Berivojce, near
Kosovska Kamenica.
At the Bujanovac Press Centre Tanjug learns that the release was
preceded by resolute diplomatic activity by Yugoslav authorities and
officials, especially Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica, President of
the Coordinating Body for Bujanovac, Presevo, and Medvedja Nebojsa
Covic, and Serbian Co-Minister of Information Biserka Matic.
This is the first time that any of the Serbs abducted during the 19 months
of KFOR's presence in Kosovo-Metohija have been released.
In a letter to NATO Secretary-General George Robertson and KFOR
Commander Gen. Carlo Cabigiosu on Monday, President Kostunica
made it clear that serious measures had to be taken, because the parents
of the abducted youths and the public justly expect that they be found as
soon as possible.
