KOSOVSKA MITROVICA, Yugoslavia, Dec 17 (AFP) - A French soldier
has died of his wounds after he was injured in an "accidental
grenade explosion" as he patrolled this northern Kosovo town, the
French army said Sunday.
Corporal Harrifou Abdoul Bastoi was seriously injured Saturday
when a grenade he was carrying exploded, according to a statement
released by the French brigade of Kosovo's NATO-led KFOR
peacekeeping force.
He was treated in a French military hospital in Mitrovica before
being evacuated to Paris, where he was operated on but later died.
A second soldier patrolling with Bastoi was lightly injured.
KFOR has launched an investigation into the accident and offered
its condolences to the victim's family, the statement said.
