Name of KFOR U.S Soldier Fatality Released
The KFOR U.S. soldier who died Saturday of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot
has been identified as Private First Class Donald J. Heatherly, 34. He was
assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 503d Military Police
Battalion out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Heatherly served as a signal
support
specialist. He is survived by his wife, Ae Young, and daughter Sarah of
Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Multinational Brigade East commander Brig. Gen. Dennis E. Hardy said: "This is a
tragic loss to his family and his unit. The death of a soldier is keenly felt by
all
members of the command. Our first concern is for the family during this time of
crisis. We extend our sincere condolences to PFC Heatherly's relatives."
The command is working closely with Task Force Falcon soldiers to render
support and comfort as a result of this sad occurrence. The incident remains
under
investigation.
Mine Awareness Education Program
This morning, KFOR Commander Lt. Gen. Carlo Cabigiosu is visiting the Sllatine /
Velika Slatina School to attend a Mine Awareness Education Program. His
program there will include a poetry recital by the students, participation in
mine
awareness classes and a question and answer session.

Multinational Brigade North
Car Searched; Pistol Found
Last night, a KFOR Multinational Brigade North patrol stopped and searched a car
at a mobile vehicle checkpoint between Tunel i Pare / Prvi Tunnel and Stariterg
/
Stari Trg. During the search, the patrol found and confiscated an illegal
pistol.
Multinational Brigade Centre
House Searched; Weapon, Ammunition Found
Yesterday morning, while investigating a report of shots fired, KFOR
Multinational
Brigade Centre soldiers searched a house at north of Podujeve / Podujevo. During
the search, the soldiers found and confiscated an SKS rifle and 37 rounds of
ammunition. UNMIK Police questioned the Kosovar Albanian owner of the house
but did not arrest the man.
Unexploded Ordnance Found
Yesterday, several unexploded ordnance devices were found in the Multinational
Brigade Centre area. Late yesterday morning, an M80 Light Anti-tank Weapon
was found under a bridge just outside Lipjan / Lipljan. KFOR Explosive Ordnance
Disposal experts went to the bridge to remove the weapon, and during their
investigation found two handgrenades as well. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal
troops safely removed all three items. Early yesterday afternoon, a shell from a
bazooka was found close to the main road east of Shtime / Stimlje. KFOR
Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts were sent to the scene of the find,
temporarily closed the road for the safety of nearby people, and destroyed the
shell where it was found.
Unexploded Ordnance Turned-in
Yesterday morning, as a result of a weapons amnesty program in the village of
Cagllavice / Caglavica, local residents turned five M80 light anti-tank weapons
and
11 handgrenades in to KFOR. The weapons were then safely transported to an
unexploded ordnance storage facility by KFOR Swedish Explosive Ordnance
Disposal experts.
