KFOR Press Update
Pristina, 29 October 2000
by Major Steven R. Shappell, KFOR Spokesman
KFOR Supports Kosovo Municipal Elections
Throughout the day yesterday, KFOR supported the OSCE-led municipal election
process by continuing to ensure a safe and secure environment in accordance
with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, and by ensuring freedom of
movement for all of the people of Kosovo. As a whole, the security situation in
Kosovo on Election Day was calm and relatively incident free. This morning, as
counting of the ballots continues, the security situation in Kosovo remains
calm.
Perhaps the greatest challenge confronted by those voting yesterday was long
lines. In several places in Kosovo, KFOR troops were requested by UNMIK Police
to assist in managing the long lines at the polling stations.

assisted UNMIK Police at a polling station in Skenderaj / Srbica yesterday
afternoon. Also, a KFOR French Gendarmerie platoon assisted UNMIK Police at a
