Milosevic Meets Party, Prepares for Runoff

BELGRADE, Sep 29, 2000 -- (Reuters) Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic
met the top leadership of his Socialist Party on Thursday and began preparations
for a second round of presidential elections, Tanjug news agency said.

Tanjug said Milosevic and the party leadership had set out "the immediate tasks
of
organizing boards and members of the SPS in connection with the holding of a
second round of presidential elections".

The statement underlined Milosevic's determination to hold a runoff vote against
his
opposition challenger, Vojislav Kostunica, despite huge international and
domestic
pressure on him to concede defeat in Sunday's first round.
