Moroccan Princess Visits Divided Kosovo Town
KOSOVSKA MITROVICA, Yugoslavia, Sep 27, 2000 -- (Agence France
Presse) Princess Lalla Meryem of Morocco visited on Tuesday a clinic and
school
contributed by her country to this ethnically divided northern Kosovo town.
Accompanied by her two children and an impressive security detail, the
eldest
sister of King Mohamed VI toured the paediatric clinic financed and
supported by
Morocco in the Serbian half of the town.
The princess, who chairs Morocco's Kosovo aid committee, next visited a
school
in the southern, ethnic Albanian sector of the town which had been renovated
by
her country at a cost of USD 35,000 (EUR 40,000).
Later Tuesday she was to visit Morocco's 300-strong contingent with the
NATO-led KFOR peacekeeping force, which staffs a military hospital, and
present Mitrovica's Muslim clerics with Islamic works.
KFOR is a multinational NATO-led peacekeeping force which has been
responsible for security in Kosovo since the end in June last year of the
year-long
war between ethnic Albanian separatists and Yugoslav forces.
