Russian FM says Yugo polls clean, sanctions must go
MOSCOW, Sept 25 (AFP) -
Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said Monday there had been "no serious
irregularities" in
Yugoslavia's presidential and parliamentary polls, and called for sanctions
against Belgrade to be
lifted, ITAR-TASS reported.
"According to international observers, these elections went off with no
serious irregularities," Ivanov
told the news agency.
"That shows that the Yugoslav people and the main political forces have
shown a great deal of
responsibility, being aware of the importance of this stage in the life of
the country.
"Russia has always said, and repeats, that sanctions introduced by some
states against Yugoslavia
should be lifted so the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia becomes a full member
of the international
community," Ivanov added.
