Voting begins in Yugoslavia
BELGRADE, Sept 24 (AFP) -
Voting began in Yugoslavia Sunday in presidential and legislative elections
which could end
Slobodan Milosevic's tenure as president.
Voters went to the polls amid claims and counter-claims of plans to rig the
ballot and fears that
Milosevic will maintain power regardless of the results.
More than 10,000 polling stations opened at 7:00 a.m. (0500 GMT). They were
due to close at
8:00 p.m.
Pre-election opinion polls predicted opposition candidate Vojislav Kostunica
would win the
presidential vote.
Western observers have been excluded from overseeing the ballot.
