Yugoslav president
arrives in Montenegro
The Yugoslav president, Slobodan Milosevic,
has been addressing an election rally in the
predominantly Serb town of Berane in northern
Montenegro.
Supporters chanted nationalist slogans as Mr
Milosevic said he was the defender of the
republic from enemies within and outside
Yugoslavia.
Buses carrying his supporters queued along
roads approaching the town before he arrived.
The visit has not been sanctioned by the
government in Montenegro, the junior partner
in the Yugoslav federation.
The Montenegrin government is calling for a
boycott of the presidential elections on
Sunday, and supports calls for Mr Milosevic to
be tried for war crimes.
