We study and advocate TRG, true republican governance, the mix of sovereign citizen lawmaking and representative govt. This is not the spin-doctored emphasis on the "populism" or "mob-rule" of anti-direct-democracy dogma. This is the working combination of sovereign direct democracy and strong but subordinate representative govt.
TRG is a legacy from the ancient Roman Republic, where its 400 years made the Greco-Roman civilization preeminent, and its many legacies influential across the ages and into present day. TRG has been Swiss governance since 1891, pioneering a sovereign people's governance rights in modern times. Our New England colonies succeeded because of TRG. Corruptions of the US Guilded Age were stifled after citizens of 19 states put TRG into their constitutions, 1898-1918. Our highest courts have found TRG to be a republican form of govt intrinsic to the Constitution.
Not having national citizen lawmaking has left us open to the current take-over by right-wing corporatism. Checks and balances have disappeared into conspiracies of collusion between the branches of govt.
Adding citizen lawmaking to our rep govt is the best answer. But getting to the national TRG political dynamic will require a 2nd NCC (Natl Constitutional Convention). Getting to a protected 2nd NCC will require more political sophistication than we have right now. We've been here before. We now have all the component parts for Reform Era II.
Working mostly in the states, away from Bush's zone of control, we can right political wrongs and build political sophistication in the civil society at the same time. DDL suggests a "3 Crucibles Plan" and an "A-B-C-D Program". You can see the concise versions on the index page of the web site, "TRG Polity -- nonpartisan community for DD and true republican governance", at http://trg-polity.org.

Re: DD Blogging In The Netroots
Stephen, blogs are popular, mostly for the wrong reasons. I don't mean to disparage what others like to do, but there's far too much bandwidth used on “What
