Direct Democracy Forum update, mid-2003.   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #2256 of 2260 |
Greetings friends and fellow Direct Democracy supporters!

The past year has been a harrowing one for those concerned with freedom
and human rights, but it is nevertheless high time for me to provide an
update. Below I have listed some of the forums that currently show up in
YahooGroups relating to Direct Democracy. If your group is not shown
here, and you think it should be, then you probably need to look at the
site description to ensure that Direct Democracy, and any other
important search terms are included.

You will readily gather that the threashhold for inclusion of a new
(2003) group is lower than an old group. Californians please scroll down
to the John Suhr's Californian e-initiative petition.

People elsewhere, please check the regional and global listings. For
other listings please check the Open Directory, Direct Democracy
category at http://dmoz.org/Society/Politics/Democracy/Direct_Democracy/
and don't forget that all Direct Democracy sites (that you want people
to be able to find) should be submitted to

Regards,
Ian Green

Although the Ama_lahi group is based in Greece it has never been
primarily concerned with Greece or any particular region. Ama lahi is a
direct democracy discussion group continuing the dialogue begun on 24th
June 2000 at the Ama Lahi taverna in Athens, Greece.

defined, community enforced) that there should be no limit on individual
freedom until it interferes with the freedoms of others.

Despite initially appearing to be a Quebec movement, the forum and their
web site www.directdemocracy.ws are in English. The web site consists of
a number of statements and reference to Arab Jamahirya, which many of
you will know is the brand of direct democracy officially claimed to be
practised in Libya by Muammar Qadhafi (also spelled Moammar Gaddafi),
The web page also contained an e-mail link displaying an Arabic-sounding
name and links to www.greenbookstudies.com (a web site heavily promoting
"The Leader …of the revolution …Gaddafi"), www.mathaba.net (a large
African web site that now requires subscription to read most content)
and www.rcmlibya.org (Arabic).
It would seem this is the web site of a north-african Arabic (left-wing,
non-Islamic or at least not overtly so) migrant in Quebec. Most of you
will most likely write this off as socialist-revolutionary,
anti-American, pro-Arab (pseudo-democratic) propaganda and will only
visit this out of curiosity. Of course the Mathaba is not new, but this
is a new YahooGroup providing a gateway to the updated Mathaba and
related websites.

The forum manager is working on a white paper for the development of an
Internet-based distributed direct democracy system. This is not
regional, but the plan is to form the “Distributed Party of Canada”
before the system is complete and run in the next Canadian Federal
elections.

Americans for Direct Democracy’s goal is to create the Direct Democracy
Amendment (DDA), thereby replacing the Congress with a legislature
directly overseen by individual Americans. Americans for Direct
Democracy aims to collect enough signatures in the 50 states to force
the issue on congress and the state legislatures.
