Wassup everybody! I hope you all had a great thanksgiving, filled
with good food and fun with your families. Now that the turkey is
digested and you can't stand the sight of anymore leftovers, it's time
to get down to BUSINESS! I would like to formally invite you all
to"Magnum Opus," a digital art showcase this Saturday at Ozio
Restaurant & Lounge from 6pm to 9pm. The featured artist is Jaye
Luke, a DC native who creates masterpieces and then renders them with
a twisted genius. You might remember some of his work from my past
birthday celebrations; he designed and created the big birthday cards
for me. Dinner will be served during the showcase, and free wine will
be poured for those who order a 3 course meal(click here to view the
menu: http://tinypic.com/m/6i7c69/2 ). For my lushes out there, there
is also a happy hour from 6-9pm, so you can enjoy a cocktail or two
while you are enjoying the artwork. This event is completely free, so
there's no need to try to sneak in the party like the couple who
crashed the White House State Dinner; no guestlist needed just walk on
in and enjoy yourself. After the Showcase, DJ Blaze will proceed to
rock the house and we will party all night long. You are welcome to
stay, but only if you can handle being a part of the SEXIEST Saturday
night party in the CITY. I'll see you all on Saturday, hit me with

Urbanflavorz Album Review: Wale's Attention Deficit

Wale has been, seemingly, all over the place in this past year. From video game soundtracks, to the MTV VMAs stage, to touring the country with Jay-Z, he just can't seem to sit still. His debut album, the aptly-named, Attention: Deficit, is similarly erratic. With sonic influences that range from Afrobeat on the regal intro, "Triumph" to the 8-bit bleeps and bloops of the cautionary tale "90210," the album evokes the feeling of your car radio's scan function. Fortunately, Wale always seems to land on the right tune. Attention: Deficit manages to maintain a sense of cohesion while touching on as many topics as there are musical backdrops.

Wale and the always stalwart, Bun B, trade verses about staying true to oneself over Mark Ronson's soulful boom bap on "Mirrors." Both lyricists use a stuttering cadence on the track, nimbly maneuvering about the upbeat horn stabs and guitar strums with great results. The party anthem "Pretty Girls," produced by frequent collaborators and fellow DC natives Best Kept Secret, is Wale at his most comfortable. Sampling Weensey from the legendary Backyard Band, and featuring the ubiquitous Gucci Mane, Wale still clearly stands out with lines like "black and gold bottles like I'm pro New Orleans/but shawty I'm far from a Saint/but I got two Amexes that look the same way."

In addition to being a commentary on the centuries old internal conflict between Black people of different skin tones, the colorfully color struck "Shades," featuring Chrisette Michelle, is a discussion of race, male and female romantic relationships, and the cultural differences between continental Africans and African-Americans. Wale seems to be at his best when he addresses topical material, which is why songs like the aimless first single "Chillin'," stick out like a sore thumb. While not a bad song per se, "Chillin'" seems out of place with so many conceptual tracks. Even the Pharrell-assisted "Let It Loose (Inhibitions)" manages to have more substance than the average club banger. The second verse's depiction of the Friday ritual of so many young professional women rings surprisingly true: "She don't even need a job/She got one anyways/She sit up at her desk on Perez all day/then Bossip for gossip/YBF and Concrete/then she on her Facebook like 'Where we finna party?'/Twitter with her homegirls, like 'What we finna do?'/They like "We gon' hit the club but can I hold on to your Choos?'"

The relationship ode "Diary," featuring a powerful vocal performance from Marsha Ambrosius, the triumphant celebration of success "Beautiful Bliss," (featuring a blistering verse-of-the-year candidate from Roc-Nation newcomer J. Cole), and the hazy, medicated, concept track "Prescription" round out the album beautifully.

Few recent major label debuts have had the diversity of content, lyricism, and quality of production seen on Attention: Deficit. The Washington, DC metropolitan area has been waiting for many years for a legitimate star to emerge. With his superlative effort, Wale's does not disappoint.
