Hello, I haven't posted yet mostly b/c I still haven't really
figured out the Yahoo message boards. I'll try to do better.

Anyway, here's my story. I joined the Peace Corps in 2002 and met
my now husband while I was staying in Ghana. For the first year/
year and a half, we were just really good friends. He would come
over to my house all the time and we would just joke around with
everyone else who also hung out at my house. He was always the
leader of the group and the center of attention.

So one day he made me really, REALLY angry. He basically caused my
students to refuse to do what I had told them to. It's very
difficult for someone to make me that angry, so I knew something
else was up and finally admitted to myself that I had a crush on
him. Long story short, we started dating for the last 10 or 11
months that I was in Ghana.

When I left Ghana I told him goodbye and promised that I would
always love him, but I just didn't think that we could be together
forever. I didn't think I could handle a multicultural relationship
in the USA, so I just gave up. I got back to the US and was
miserable. I tried to find out how he could come here, and realized
that the best way would be to finally say yes to the times he had
asked me to marry him.

So we went through the visa process and now he has been here in the
US for a little over a year. We definitely have our moments, but I
know I have married the man that I was meant to marry. He has done
wonderfully adapting to the US and is always eager to learn more.
He helps in the kitchen and with washing the laundry (it did take a
couple arguments to get to that point though. ;-) ) We are even
expecting our first child in May! Woo-hoo!

Well, that's our story. I hope I get to know you all better.

What a wonderful story. Thanks so much for sharing your personal perspective. I'm curious if the cultural challenges of your relationship were what you thought...
