In addition to this list you may want to subscribe to the Davis List
at Rootsweb. A much broader base of researchers and far less likely
to receive SPAM.

If you are interested in the ancestry/descendants of Van Davis of
Newberry/Anderson county SC. send me an e-mail.

Samuel W Davis was born May 7,1802 possible in GA. He was married to
Malena or Melenda (not sure exactly how her name is spelled) They
left Ga around 1844 and came to Louisiana. I am kinda dead end and
dont have any luck to go further to find out more informations on
Samuel or his wife. Any informations that you might have would be
big help and i appreciate it very much.

I think there is a Davis, Ball connection through Sarah Alice Davis and
Mason and John Hamm. The connection can be found in Hopkins and Maryville,
Nodaway County, Missouri. I wish I could help more but I don't remember the
details. Good luck.

Have found another connection to H.E. Davis b. 1859

His sister, Martha Lavinda Davis, b. Sept 9,1856 d. June 5, 1918
m. Apr. 21, 1878 to Clinton L. Ball
I have a postcard dated 1914 from her with her picture, and
postmarked from the Coldwater, Mich. area. I have no other
information about her husband nor of any children. Can anyone help
fill in some of those blanks. Apparantly she sent magazines to my

Since my last post I have found that Silas Cowan Davis's father was
from Tennissee (b.1813) and his name was Alfred Davis and his wife's
name was Mary and she was also born in Tn. (b.1814)
Alfred Davis and Mary were married in 1833 but I don't know
where.
The first 8 children were born in AL ( Jane
b.1836, Rebecca b.1838, James R. b.1840, Christina b.1842, Alferd
b.1844, Mary f. b.1847, Elizabeth b.1849, Samuelb.1851)
The next 3 children were born in Yellville, Marion Co. AR
(Silas Cowan Davis b.1856, Andrew s. b.1854, Alexander S.
b.1854...twins?) I have seen another name in the children
named William Crawford (Crofford) Davis b. 1833 in
Tuscaloosa AL. That was the year Alfred and Mary were
married...William may have been Indian and not Mary's? I
don't really know why he shows up with them...he is also
shown in other places as having parents named Thomas
Jefferson Davis and Mary Elizabeth Tims. I can't figure
out that mystery.
Anyway I'm interested in finding out
more about Alfred and Mary Davis.
Best wishes,

Sorry, but I can find no one by that name in my records.
My Grt. Grandfather was born in Coldwater, Mich. and the eldest child
was born in 1845.
I have all their names, dates of birth, some places of birth, names
of spouses and their dates of birth, and most of the dates they were
deceased, but no names or numbers of children they had, except for my
Grandfather who was the 3rd. youngest of 10 children. (5 girls, 5
boys 1 set of twin boys 1 of whom died at one year of age)

Does your Davis line include Sarah Alice Davis, b 8/25/1835, White
Pigeon, Michigan, d. 2/10/1919 in Maryville, Nodaway County, Missouri?
She married John Hamm and had a daughter Angeline Hamm, b 9/1/1858. When
John died in Iowa, she then married his brother, Mason "Doc" Hamm. I am
looking for information on this Davis line and Hamm Line.

Dispite much searching, have hit a brickwall so far in the search for
the parents and siblings of my Grandfather. Keep getting "no one by
that name" however, have made some progress.
Found the marriage date of grandparents thru the Mormon site, and
also found some papers in my dad's things.
We were always told that when grandfather died in 1937 that he had no
will, but found a letter from Minneapolis dated 1947 along with
newspaper clippings regarding the filing of a foreign will for
probate. Wow, what a surprise that was. Also with looking thru old
papers came across an interesting tidbit. Apparantly when my
Grandfather sold the property in Kansas and moved the family to
Alberta,Canada,my dad was 2 years old at the time, none of the family
took out Canadian citizenship. At the time of their deaths, they were
all still American. My father died in 1955, and the last surviving
sibling just a few years ago.
Just thought I would share this with you, as I was getting
discouraged and it has given me a lift, so perhaps it will encourage
some of you that are having the same problems to keep hunting. I do
have some old unidentified photos of cousins or possibly sisters of
H.E. Davis, marked in Chicago on the back, but no other identifying
information. Apparantly they moved quite a bit, as I have found
references to Minnesota, Michigan and Kansas, but cannot pinpoint
anything up to now. If any of this sounds familier to anyone, do
contact me, perhaps we may have a common thread.

Dear Ed,
I agreed with everything you said but I also do not see why we have
to put up with these types of messages. There must be something we
can do to say we are not going to put up with it anymore. Maybe what
we need is not one founder or owner but co-founders and owners, so
that there are more of us monitering the messages that get posted. I
realize I am no expert in the computer field but there should be
something we all as a club can do to say we are not going to put up
with it. Maybe if we all voice our opinions we will get some sort of

Dear Melodee aka famhistorybuff,
Unfortunately, because this is a public club, there is no way to stop
the spammers from signing on and posting spam. The founder is the
only one who can remove the spam and block or expel the spammers. As
for the volume of spam, compared to some clubs, this club has a low
amount of spam. But even one spammer is one too many. The founder
needs to get busy and get rid of these people and their messages as
soon as possible after their appearance. Taking the group (we are
technically no longer a club) private would mean even more work on
his part, since people would have to contact him to join a private
group and he would have to send them back an invitation to join,
while other members could also invite people they know to join the
group. I would not hold my breath waiting for this to happen.

Ed Wright

PS. It is now possible to send an e-mail message to the spammer by
going to the members list and clicking on the e-mail address if it is
listed. But chances are the e-mail address is a phoney and, if it is
legitimate, you would end up revealing your address to the spammer
when you e-mail them. It seems like we can't win for losing. And now
we have to put up with pop-up adds on the web site page.

I found this group through a webpage about Evan DAVIS, my ancestor's

I have conflicting info on my DAVIS ancestors, and am hoping that I
can clear up some of that info w/ some fellow DAVIS descendants.
Anyone here a descendant of Reason DAVIS, Sr? I have that he was b
1700 MD or 1710 VA. He m 2nd wife Elizabeth WOOD, and d before 1767
or 1807 in SC or in 1814 GA. Obviously those dates put him well over
100, but again, my info isn't that solid.

My next ancestor is Van C. DAVIS, who m 3 times- I come from the 3rd
wife, Susannah CARY. Next up is their daughter Emily "Milea" DAVIS
who m William David TATE.

Looking forward to meeting all my DAVIS cousins!!

Are You Searching (Genealogy)
Reference to ADOPTION:
Many phases of an investigation must take place. Many search
companies who claim to conduct an adoption search can not in most
cases. You must have identifiers of the person being sought. For
example, First and Last Name, Date of Birth or Approx. Age, Social
Security Number, Drivers License Number, even a relative in which
could be a lead. Any of the above identifiers is a must, if you don't
have an identifier it's a prayer or an extensive costly field
investigation. Usually, the private investigator pays for the vital
information at a very high price costing the client thousands of
dollars with no sure gaurantee. Usually, a good way to search for a
parents are on postings and support groups. However, thats if both
parties want to be found. READ Reference to CHILD SUPPORT.
Reference to CHILD SUPPORT:
Many dead beat parents can be found. Most who are on the run slip up
and leave a trail. The ones who are covering their tracks, after a
few years lower their gaurd, starting a new trail. Many, change their
names over and over but never stop using their Social Security
Number. Driver Record Information which includes address on file and
more can help you in going into the right direction. Many people who
search get discouraged when they use a search company because of the
expectation of a 100% result. Many times it does occur. However, most
times the company only reports the last current information on file.
Understand, this information is a very important lead. But only one
step in the right direction. Most companies charge you now $50-$99
for that first step (ONE SEARCH).

do a search on switchboard.com, and write to the ones listed there.
Most people die within 50 miles of where they were born, even today!
Enclose almost all the info you know about them holding back one or
two small pieces of info to make sure of their identity. Also
enclose a self addressed pre stamped post card. In your letter tell
the person you write if they are NOT the person you are searching
for, please drop the card in the mail and you will know to cross
their name off your list. This method will take time, but it is
totally doable. If you need help please feel free to email me
directly, I would be more than willing to share my experiences with
hunting for live family.

Looking for any information on Floyd Davis born in South Carolina
about 1804. He is in the 1830 and 1840 Hickman county Tennessee
census with only an older woman presumed to be his mother. In 1850
he is in Lawrence county, Arkansas with 2 yr old John H. and 30 year
old Lucinda Forrester whom he married in 1854.
