Before going to a moderated list, I would like to try setting forth some
guidelines and see if that doesn't help clean things up a bit. Then, if we
are still overwhelmed with volume, we can go to the moderated version.
(1) No silly banter. Take it off list. "I agree," "good point" comments
are nice, but with the volume we have reached, they should now be sent off
list.
(2) Selectivity in the subject headings. Be descriptive in your Subject
line for the sake of those using "daily digest" or "web only" options.
(3) Stop beating dead horses. Going on and on and on over one subject needs
to stop. Make your point, use a good subject description, then let it rest.
You don't have to come to an agreement via this list. Do it off list if you
must.
(4) Keep the strong agendas to a minimum. We appreciate knowing of people's
particular views, but this is not to be a forum for them to be discussed ad
nausium. If you wish to do that, create your own mailing list for that
purpose. "John Upchurch's Church of the Firstborn List" "Jared Smith's
John the Baptist's Messages List" These subjects need to be subdivided
appropriately. I did this with the "triple couples" concept. I've mainly
kept comments along those lines to that list only. It has been a slow list,
but that's okay. It's a one-topic list, and those people interested in that
one topic enjoy the occasional insight that goes by there. Same with
remnant saints.
David's Outcasts is to be a general coverage list. Specifics should be
pounded out on other lists. if there isn't already one, then make one. If
no one joins, take that as a hint.
(5) Let's try to be original. New ideas are welcome. New insights. New
perspectives.
(6) Keep news items to a minimum. Other lists such as American Patriot
Friends Network (apfn@yahoogroups.com) are good for that. We do pretty good
on this list along these lines. I probably post more news items than
anyone. My main reason for doing so is that it creates an easy way to
archive something I wish to reference from another website, mainly
greaterthings.com. If yahoogroups ever decides that they want people to pay
for the mailing lists, then David's Outcasts will be at the top, or close,
for keeping afloat. So I hope you will excuse my taking an exception to
this particular rule.
