Maybe it was both. Probably both.

I would like to believe the hero version too Sterling, however my intuition
leads me in another direction. When the Penn. flight went down, both WT
towers and the Pentagon had already been "bombed" and fighters had scrambled
to bring down any remaining planes which had not obeyed the order to land.

We needed a hero, so they gave us a fictional story to help us feel better
about bringing one of our own down. I don't know this for sure, but I have a
feeling that this is what happened.

QUESTION:

If a fighter had brought down an airliner, do you think they would tell us
about it, or do you think they would cook up a story to help us deal with
the loss?

The timing, sequence of events and intent (of the Air Force) of that morning
lead me to believe that this particular flight was destroyed before it could
reach its intended target.

Sad times!

Yatzi

Just as the passengers are about to get on the transponder and ask how to fly the plane to safety . . . I hate it when that happens. (morose humor. sorry) ......
