Hi JB,
You have to remember that with an institution as large as the LDS church
that the counsel they give is going to be geared to the lowest common
denominator-- which includes people that need to be told everything and
can't think for themselves or receive personal revelation.
Such is the case with the counsel given regarding the watching of movies.
'No R rated movies' was like a commandment to me as I grew up (a time when I
fell into the above category). In retrospect, I am glad for that guideline
because it protected me from stuff I should not see or was not prepared to
discern.
Meanwhile, I have learned that our own discernment is one of the greatest
gifts the Lord has given us.
There are a good many R movies I have found to be of tremendous benefit.
Likewise, I've also come across some pretty trashy PG movies. I've turned
off or walked out of PG movies before too.
Isn't agency a great thing!

Hi,
Interesting article - I do remember that a GA once said directly not to
watch
R movies though. I know there are some very good R movies such as the one
mentoned by you - where does one draw the line ? I guess its a matter of -
'do
we rate violence on the same line as nudity'
Take Care,
JB
