Challenging one another's paradigms, I believe, will get us all into a
fistfight.

Having followed the posts between you, Blayne, and Sterling has forced home
for me the question-what is essential and non-essential truth here?

To me, that's the issue--for 3 brothers in the faith (or for that matter,
for all of us) the question is--is there such a thing as ESSENTIAL truth and
NON-ESSENTIAL truths? Should we or should we not be challenging one another
's paradigms? I don't think so. I personally believe you're squabbling
over non-essentials. Challenging one another's paradigms, in the end, I
believe is a non-essential truth. I'm not saying-our paradigms are not
important. I'm saying-our agreeing on paradigms is non-essential. I like
the way C.S. Lewis put it. Lewis said, "...it's not that we Christians
disagree; it's that we disagree about the importance of our
disagreements..."

How true.

I think we're witnessing the acting out of Lewis' statement before our eyes.

ESSENTIAL TRUTH is based upon truth as an antithesis-truth by kind. There
is no compromising here. I agree. I believe, for example, the doctrine of
justification by faith is an essential truth. One moment you were a sinner;
the next moment you are called a saint. One moment you were one kind of
person; the next, another kind. Truth by antithesis.

Becoming a child of God (or however you wish to say it), becoming a
Christian, a believer.whatever, is, I believe, an essential truth. In other
words, I say it this way: All who confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
are my brothers & sisters in the faith-regardless of creed, color, or class.
Fellowship depends upon His Lordship and is not based upon agreement of
creed or doctrine. Or paradigms.

Believing in Jesus Christ is, for me, an essential truth that's not up for
grabs. It's not debatable if we're to embrace one another as brothers in
the faith.

On the other hand, everything else is up for grabs; i.e., one another's
paradigms on how to build Zion. Building Zion, debating over free agency,
are non-essential truths regarding the matter of fellowshipping as brothers.

I know--I place a demand upon myself-you be kind to that LDS brother who
supports the general authorities. Embrace him unconditionally. You be kind
to all the David's Outcasts who no longer support the world church. You be
kind to the RLDS, to the Manti group(s), to those with various feelings
about patriotism. Some of us see patriotism as an important (if not
central) part of our lives and could not really see ourselves involved in
Christianity without the Patriot movement being central to our faith. Other
believers go through life without even knowing the meaning of the word,
patriot.

To me, the above illustrate what I call non-essentials. And if we start
challenging one another's views on the non-essentials, it's never long until
someone yells "FOOD FIGHT!"

And then the chaos begins.

Personally, I see no benefit at all for using expecutives--the f_ _ _ _ word
and the s_ _ _ word, and others as well in a public forum of this sort. I'm
deeply offended and hurt. I know the Holy Spirit is grieved. As for my
being a "prude," there was a time (pre-conversion days) when every other
word that came out of my mouth was f _ _ _ you! That was when I was
