Caleb,
I think you are onto something very significant here.
Could it be that just as Jesus won our hearts for the gospel's sake at his
first coming by willfully laying down his life, that in these latter-days,
the hearts of the world will be won for freedom's sake by the servants of
God willfully laying down their life rather than take up the sword?
Sterling
p.s. would you mind if I forward this correspondence to a couple of lists
I'm on?

It is not a coincidence that you should ask. I have been meaning to talk to
you about it. I apologize at the start that this is such a long response,
but it is the first chance that I have had to commit some of these thoughts
in writing and I really want to hear how it is received by you. The Lord
has really impressed upon me that the revolution that will establish His
Kingdom will not be fought with weapons of war, but of the spirit. It will
be fought with faith and courage. Our weapons will be the armour of God...
Ephesians 6:11-17
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against
the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this
world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able
to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having
on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to
quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which
is the word of God:
In fact, I can vision how it can take place. First of all, we must realize
that there is no way to change or reform the system from within because we
must adulterate our covenant with the one true God in order to do so. We
must "Come out of her"...
2 Corinthians 6:14-18
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what
fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath
light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that
believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the
temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk
in [them]; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord,
and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you,
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters,
saith the Lord Almighty.
We do this by eliminating our ties, covenants, obligations, permits,
licenses, fellowships, communions, concords, agreements, etc. We expatriate
ourselves as citizens of the United States by taking an oath of allegience
to another foreign sovereign (see USC Title 5 on expatriation). That
foreign sovereign is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself! The Lord of Lords and
King of Kings. His kingdom is not of this world, otherwise, we would take
up arms...
John 18:36
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of
this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to
the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
We are subjects of the Lord Jesus Christ. Citizens of the Kingdom of God...
Phillipians 3:20
20 For our citizenship is in the heavens, whence also a Saviour we await --
the Lord Jesus Christ -- (Youngs Literal Translation by Robert Young 1898)
We live His laws. He forbids us to make covenants with foreign and alien
gods. We are not aggressive.
Matthew 26:52
52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for
all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
We are ambassadors of His Kingdom...
2 Corinthians 5:20
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech [you]
by us: we pray [you] in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
In fact, we take a vow of poverty- no longer do we labor for money, but for
the kingdom. We are servants of our fellow beings. Our whole lives are
devoted to the service of others. For in the Kingdom of God, there are no
benefactors, but only servants.
Luke 22:25-27
25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over
them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
26 But ye [shall] not [be] so: but he that is greatest among you, let him
be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
27 For whether [is] greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth?
[is] not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
We are peacemakers. This places us at odds with the world.
Matthew 10:34
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send
peace, but a sword.
The sword that Jesus talks of here is not raised by us, but against us. But
we live not for this world, but for a better resurrection- for the next.
Matthew 10:28
28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the
soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in
hell.
Hebrews 13:6
6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord [is] my helper, and I will not fear
what man shall do unto me.
JST Matthew 5:12
12 Blessed are all they that are persecuted for my name's sake; for theirs
is the kingdom of heaven.
Can you imagine 3% of the people of SanPete or of Utah or of somewhere who
choose the Kingdom? We would be imprisoned, beaten, mocked, chained before
judges, denied proper food and clothing, having our property stolen, our
homes lost or destroyed... This is reality. I have been there. I know.
In fact, the people of Utah would be the hardest on the Citizens of the
Kingdom. But we do it with joy, praising God as the early Christian church
did, glorying in the opportunity to testify of Christ and his Kingdom. Why
were they thrown into lions dens, gladiators, crucified, etc? Because they
were not obedient to the decrees of Caesar...
Acts 17:7
7 Whom Jason hath received (harbored): and these all do contrary to the
decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, [one] Jesus.
The movement was so powerful, that eventually, in 200 AD, finally the
emperor said if you can't beat them, join them and made Christianity the
State Religion and through that movement was able to finally conquer.
With the enough people, and with the right publicity- such as the Interneet,
the paradigm of the world today would not put up with the persecution of a
people like that. The United Nations would cry "foul" and the nations of
the world would "carry them upon their shoulders like nursing mothers" and
actually come to the aid of the remnant of Jacob. We could be recognized as
a Kingdom- then the work could really go forth. The scripture that says,
DC 45:68
68 And it shall come to pass among the wicked, that every man that will
not take his sword against his neighbor must needs flee unto Zion for
safety.
could now come to pass. This scripture is interesting. We have always
thought of it as communities and regions warring with each other- but God
has given me a different perspective. The sword spoken of here is symbolic.
Those that "take his sword against his neighbor" are those that exercise
force and compulsion upon their fellowman through the respective governments
unrighteously. When people are converted to the war in heaven that is
raging on earth through the instrumentality of governments and that God
holds us responsible for our relations to them, they will "flee unto Zion"
rather than continue to exercise unrighteous force and compulsion upon their
neighbor.
There is a reason why Mormon put the story of the Anti-Nephi-Lehi's in the
Book of Mormon. Read all of Alma 24, but for now, read the following
excerpt...
Alma 24:18-27
18 And this they did, it being in their view a testimony to God, and also
to men, that they never would use weapons again for the shedding of man's
blood; and this they did, vouching and covenanting with God, that rather
than shed the blood of their brethren they would give up their own lives;
and rather than take away from a brother they would give unto him; and
rather than spend their days in idleness they would labor abundantly with
their hands.
19 And thus we see that, when these Lamanites were brought to believe and
to know the truth, they were firm, and would suffer even unto death rather
than commit sin; and thus we see that they buried their weapons of peace, or
they buried the weapons of war, for peace.
20 And it came to pass that their brethren, the Lamanites, made
preparations for war, and came up to the land of Nephi for the purpose of
destroying the king, and to place another in his stead, and also of
destroying the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi out of the land.
21 Now when the people saw that they were coming against them they went
out to meet them, and prostrated themselves before them to the earth, and
began to call on the name of the Lord; and thus they were in this attitude
when the Lamanites began to fall upon them, and began to slay them with the
sword.
22 And thus without meeting any resistance, they did slay a thousand and
five of them; and we know that they are blessed, for they have gone to dwell
with their God.
23 Now when the Lamanites saw that their brethren would not flee from the
sword, neither would they turn aside to the right hand or to the left, but
that they would lie down and perish, and praised God even in the very act of
perishing under the sword--
24 Now when the Lamanites saw this they did forbear from slaying them; and
there were many whose hearts had swollen in them for those of their brethren
who had fallen under the sword, for they repented of the things which they
had done.
25 And it came to pass that they threw down their weapons of war, and they
would not take them again, for they were stung for the murders which they
had committed; and they came down even as their brethren, relying upon the
mercies of those whose arms were lifted to slay them.
26 And it came to pass that the people of God were joined that day by more
than the number who had been slain; and those who had been slain were
righteous people, therefore we have no reason to doubt but what they were
saved.
27 And there was not a wicked man slain among them; but there were more
than a thousand brought to the knowledge of the truth; thus we see that the
Lord worketh in many ways to the salvation of his people.
What an impact! Talk about changing people's hearts! There is nothing that
touches the souls of men more than martyrs. It is the spirit that created
this country. "Is life so dear and peace so sweet as to be purchased with
chains and slavery? God forbid! I know not what others may do, but as for
me, Give me liberty or give me death!" Freedom is THE central, pivoting
principle of the gospel. Perfect charity, the pure love of Christ is summed
up by Christ laying down voluntarily upon the cross and stretching our his
arms and saying, "go ahead, I am ready". Do you think they wrestled him
down and held his hands down upon the cross so they could pound the nails
into his wrists? The greatest gift we can give to another is freedom, even
if it hurts us.
I appreciate this opportunity to dump all these thoughts on you. Please
give me your feedback. I just on fire about this.
Your brother in Christ,
Caleb

That's what I think.
In responding to you earlier, I realized for the first time that I
accidentally included my militia e-mail contacts in the "To" list. I don't
know any of them, but pulled their e-mail addresses off of some web sites I
visited recently.
I imagine this was a red flag to many of the Blind Carbon Copy recipients
that I sent the post to as well. I find this ironic inasmuch as 99% of the
time I am extremely careful to not expose my recipient list. Of all the
times I should slip, this would be one of the worst times to do it. I can't
help be see a message in that for me.
The effect that this has on anyone who is careful is the message "This guy
is a live wire, not careful, a loose cannon. Stay away from him. He can't
be trusted."
It's almost like the Lord sabotaged my attempt to dabble in the notion of
preparing militarily for what is coming -- a departure from my normal focus
of scriptures and spiritual preparation, building faith to move mountains,
stop bullets, etc.
What do you think?
Sterling
