Subject: Knitting us to Babylon
Joy, I don't know if you've seen the latest PR gush from the Deseret
News --
http://deseretnews.com/dn/print/1,1442,375007182,00.html?
The benefactors of this performance of "Light of the World" is an outfit
called "Olympic Aid," an NGO created at the 1994 Norway Winter Olympics.
As if the hints in the DesNews piece weren't sufficient to guess as
much, a sponsor of the Sydney Olympics --
http://samsungelectronics.com/sports/olympic_sub3_34.html
-- described Olympic Aid as "a charity set up in partnership with the
United Nations...."
Olympic Aid's website --
http://www.olympicaid.org/index.asp
-- is just chock-a-block with stuff about the organization's work with
the UN and its specialized agencies.
Note as well that this benefit performance, appropriately enough, took
place in the Babylonian Gardens building, which will also host the
roundtable discussion on Friday. Among the participants will be UN
SecGen Annan, South African Commie "Bishop" Desmond Tutu, and World
Health Organization commissarina Gro Harlem Brundtland -- a Vice
President of the Socialist International (which was created by Karl
Marx).
Oh, and wasn't it cute of President Hinckley to kick off last night's
event with this gibe: "I didn't come to preach. I came to see the show."
No point in bringing up trivialities like, oh, repentance and redemption
and all that icky stuff when the Powerful and Beautiful People have
gathered to bask in the warm glow of self-approval....
Best, Will
