It has played many rolls during it's life from the Saura indians living along it's banks, to the Batteau boats that carried tobacco northward during the 1800's , to it's present day use as being mostly a recreational playground for all of us to enjoy. It can go from class IV V whitewater above and below Talbbot Dam,to a lesiurely float on a tube through Hanging Rock State Park,to a nice daylong canoe trip on the flatter and calmer waters towards the Roanoke river. I started this group as a place where paddlers of the Dan,and anyone intrested,can come for info,report trips,share experiences and explore the other outdoor activities in Stokes county.
