passage: Isa 7:1-7:14

Chapter 7

And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of
Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son
of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it,
but could not prevail against it. And it was told the house of David,
saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved,
and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with
the wind. Then said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz,
thou, and Shearjashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper
pool in the highway of the fuller's field; And say unto him, Take heed,
and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of
these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria,
and of the son of Remaliah. Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of
Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying, Let us go
up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for
us, and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal: Thus
saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.
  For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin;
and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that
it be not a people. And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head
of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall
not be established. Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,
Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or
in the height above. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I
tempt the LORD. And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it
a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin
shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

passage: Gen 5:32-6:8

Chapter 5

And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and
  Japheth.

Chapter 6

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the
earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the
daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all
which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive
with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred
and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and
also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men,
and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of
old, men of renown. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great
in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart
was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made
man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said,
  I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth;
  both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air;
for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in
  the eyes of the LORD.

passage: Prov 6:20-7:1

My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy
mother: Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about
thy neck. When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest,
it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of
instruction are the way of life: To keep thee from the evil woman,
from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. Lust not after
her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread:
and the adultress will hunt for the precious life. Can a man take fire
in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals,
and his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbour's
wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent. Men do not despise
a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; But if he
be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance
of his house. But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh
understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. A wound
and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the
day of vengeance. He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest
content, though thou givest many gifts.

Chapter 7

My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

Chapter 3

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of
unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another
daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through
the deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we
hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; While it
is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts,
as in the provocation. For some, when they had heard, did provoke:
howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.

passage: Mark 1:35-1:44

Chapter 1

And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out,
and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. And Simon and they
that were with him followed after him. And when they had found him, they
said unto him, All men seek for thee. And he said unto them, Let us go
into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came
I forth. And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee,
and cast out devils. And there came a leper to him, beseeching him,
and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst
make me clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand,
and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon
as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was
  cleansed.  And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;
And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way,
shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things
which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

passage: Heb 1:10-2:3

Chapter 1

  And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth;
  and the heavens are the works of thine hands: They shall perish;
  but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;
And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed:
but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. But to which of
the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make
thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits,
sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Chapter 2

Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we
have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word
spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience
received a just recompence of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect
so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord,
  and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

passage: Mark 2:1-2:12

And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised
that he was in the house. And straightway many were gathered together,
insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about
the door: and he preached the word unto them. And they come unto him,
bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. And when
they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the
roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the
bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay. When Jesus saw their faith,
he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning
in their hearts, Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can
forgive sins but God only? And immediately when Jesus perceived in
his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them,
Why reason ye these things in your hearts? Whether is it easier to
say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say,
Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? But that ye may know that the
Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick
of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go
thy way into thine house. And immediately he arose, took up the bed,
and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed,
and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

passage: Isa 8:13-9:7

Chapter 8

Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let
him be your dread. And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone
of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel,
for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And many
among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared,
and be taken. Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.
And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of
Jacob, and I will look for him. Behold, I and the children whom the
LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD
of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion. And when they shall say unto
you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that
peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for
the living to the dead? To the law and to the testimony: if they
speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light
in them. And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry:
and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall
fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.
And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness,
dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.

Chapter 9

Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation,
when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the
land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the
way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. The people
that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in
the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy
before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when
they divide the spoil. For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden,
and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day
of Midian. For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise,
and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and
fuel of fire. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:
and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be
called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father,
The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there
shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order
it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth
even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

passage: Gen 6:9-6:22

Chapter 6

These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in
his generations, and Noah walked with God. And Noah begat three sons,
Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The earth also was corrupt before God, and
the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth,
and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon
the earth. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before
me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold,
  I will destroy them with the earth.  Make thee an ark of gopher wood;
rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without
with pitch. And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of:
The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of
it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. A window shalt
thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and
the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower,
second, and third stories shalt thou make it. And, behold, I, even
I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh,
wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that
  is in the earth shall die.  But with thee will I establish my covenant;
and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife,
and thy sons' wives with thee. And of every living thing of all flesh,
two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with
thee; they shall be male and female. Of fowls after their kind, and
of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after
his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt
gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

passage: Prov 8:1-8:21

Chapter 8

Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? She standeth
in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.
She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at
the doors. Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.
O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding
heart. Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of
my lips shall be right things. For my mouth shall speak truth; and
wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth
are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.
They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that
find knowledge. Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge
rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the
things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. I wisdom dwell
with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions. The fear
of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way,
and the froward mouth, do I hate. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom:
I am understanding; I have strength. By me kings reign, and princes
decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges
of the earth. I love them that love me; and those that seek me early
shall find me. Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches
  and righteousness.  My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold;
and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness,
in the midst of the paths of judgment: That I may cause those that love
me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

Chapter 9

And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of
Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart, The bricks are
fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut
down, but we will change them into cedars. Therefore the LORD shall set
  up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together;
The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour
Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but
his hand is stretched out still. For the people turneth not unto him
that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts. Therefore the
LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.
The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth
lies, he is the tail. For the leaders of this people cause them to
err; and they that are led of them are destroyed. Therefore the LORD
shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their
fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer,
and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned
away, but his hand is stretched out still. For wickedness burneth as
the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in
the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up
of smoke. Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened,
and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare
  his brother.  And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry;
and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied:
  they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm: Manasseh, Ephraim;
and Ephraim, Manasseh: and they together shall be against Judah. For all
this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

Chapter 10

Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write
grievousness which they have prescribed; To turn aside the needy
from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people,
that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!
And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation
which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where
will ye leave your glory? Without me they shall bow down under the
prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger
is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

passage: Gen 7:1-7:5

Chapter 7

  And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark;
for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. Of every
clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female:
and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.
Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed
alive upon the face of all the earth. For yet seven days, and I will
cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every
living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of
the earth. And Noah did according unto all that the LORD commanded him.

passage: Prov 8:32-9:11

Chapter 8

Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they
that keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting
at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall
obtain favour of the LORD. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth
his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

Chapter 9

Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also
furnished her table. She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon
the highest places of the city, Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither:
as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, Come, eat of my
bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. Forsake the foolish,
and live; and go in the way of understanding. He that reproveth a
scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man
getteth himself a blot. Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee:
rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise
man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase
in learning. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the
knowledge of the holy is understanding. For by me thy days shall be
multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

Chapter 10

Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed
his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the
fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his
high looks. For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it,
and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of
the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the
inhabitants like a valiant man: And my hand hath found as a nest the
riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have
I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing,
or opened the mouth, or peeped. Shall the axe boast itself against
him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him
that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that
lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were
no wood. Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his
fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like
the burning of a fire. And the light of Israel shall be for a fire,
and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns
and his briers in one day; And shall consume the glory of his forest,
and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when
a standard-bearer fainteth. And the rest of the trees of his forest
shall be few, that a child may write them. And it shall come to pass
in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of
  the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them;
but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of

Chapter 9

If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest,
thou alone shalt bear it. A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple,
and knoweth nothing. For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a
seat in the high places of the city, To call passengers who go right
on their ways: Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him
that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, Stolen waters are sweet,
and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. But he knoweth not that the
dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

Chapter 11

And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for
an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest
shall be glorious. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the
Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of
his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from
Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath,
and from the islands of the sea. And he shall set up an ensign for the
nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together
the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. The envy
also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut
off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim.
But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the
west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their
hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them.
  And the LORD shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea;
and with his mighty wind shall he shake his hand over the river, and
shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over dryshod.
And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which
shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that
he came up out of the land of Egypt.

Chapter 12

And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou
wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me.
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the
LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

passage: Gen 7:11-8:3

Chapter 7

In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the
seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains
of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. In the
selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons
of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them,
into the ark; They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle
after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth
after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort.
And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh,
wherein is the breath of life. And they that went in, went in male
and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut
him in. And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters
increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.
  And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth;
and the ark went upon the face of the waters. And the waters prevailed
exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under
the whole heaven, were covered. Fifteen cubits upward did the waters
prevail; and the mountains were covered. And all flesh died that
moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and
of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man:
All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the
dry land, died. And every living substance was destroyed which was upon
the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things,
and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth:
and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.

Chapter 8

And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that
was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth,
and the waters asswaged; The fountains also of the deep and the windows
of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained; And
the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end
of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.

passage: Prov 10:1-10:22

Chapter 10

The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish
son is the heaviness of his mother. Treasures of wickedness profit
nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death. The LORD will not
suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the
substance of the wicked. He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack
hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. He that gathereth in
summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that
causeth shame. Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence
covereth the mouth of the wicked. The memory of the just is blessed:
but the name of the wicked shall rot. The wise in heart will receive
commandments: but a prating fool shall fall. He that walketh uprightly
walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known. He that
winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.
The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth
the mouth of the wicked. Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth
all sins. In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found:
but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding. Wise men
lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is
their poverty. The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of
the wicked to sin. He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction:
but he that refuseth reproof erreth. He that hideth hatred with lying
lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool. In the multitude of
words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked
is little worth. The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die
for want of wisdom. The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he
  addeth no sorrow with it.

Chapter 13

Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain, exalt the voice unto them,
shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles. I have
commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones for
mine anger, even them that rejoice in my highness. The noise of a
multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous
noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts
mustereth the host of the battle. They come from a far country, from
the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation,
  to destroy the whole land.  Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand;
it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. Therefore shall
all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt: And they shall
be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in
  pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another;
their faces shall be as flames. Behold, the day of the LORD cometh,
cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate:
and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. For the stars
of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light:
the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not
cause her light to shine. And I will punish the world for their evil,
and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of
the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the
golden wedge of Ophir. Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the
earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts,
and in the day of his fierce anger.

passage: Gen 8:4-8:21

Chapter 8

And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of
the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. And the waters decreased
continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day
of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen. And it came to pass
at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which
he had made: And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro,
until the waters were dried up from off the earth. Also he sent forth
a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of
the ground; But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and
she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of
the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled
her in unto him into the ark. And he stayed yet other seven days; and
again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; And the dove came in to
him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off:
so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. And he
stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned
not again unto him any more. And it came to pass in the six hundredth
and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the
waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering
of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.
And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month,
was the earth dried. And God spake unto Noah, saying, Go forth of the
ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons' wives with thee.
Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all
flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that
creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth,
and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. And Noah went forth,
and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him: Every beast,
every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the
earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark. And Noah builded an
altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean
fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the LORD smelled
a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse
the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart
is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing
  living, as I have done.

passage: Prov 10:31-11:12

Chapter 10

The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue
shall be cut out. The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable:
but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.

Chapter 11

A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is
his delight. When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the
lowly is wisdom. The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but
the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them. Riches profit
not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.
The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked
shall fall by his own wickedness. The righteousness of the upright shall
deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.
When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of
unjust men perisheth. The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the
wicked cometh in his stead. An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his
neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered. When it
goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked
perish, there is shouting. By the blessing of the upright the city
is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked. He that
is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding
  holdeth his peace.

Chapter 10

But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were
illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions; Partly, whilst ye
were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly,
whilst ye became companions of them that were so used. For ye had
compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your
goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an
enduring substance. Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath
great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after
ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet
a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul
shall have no pleasure in him.

passage: Mark 2:14-2:17

Chapter 2

And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the
receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and
followed him. And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his
house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his
disciples: for there were many, and they followed him. And when the
scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they
said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with
publicans and sinners? When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They
that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick:
I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Chapter 4

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into
the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling
of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet
without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace,
that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Chapter 5

For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in
things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices
for sins: Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are
out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.
And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself,
to offer for sins. And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but
he that is called of God, as was Aaron. So also Christ glorified not
himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art
my Son, to day have I begotten thee. As he saith also in another place,
Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

passage: Mark 8:34-9:1

Chapter 8

And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also,
he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself,
and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life
shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the
gospel's, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if
he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a
man give in exchange for his soul? Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed
of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him
also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of
his Father with the holy angels.

Chapter 9

And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of
them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have
seen the kingdom of God come with power.

Chapter 14

The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so
shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: That
I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him
under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden
depart from off their shoulders. This is the purpose that is purposed
upon the whole earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon
all the nations. For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall
disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?
In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden. Rejoice not thou,
whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken:
for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his
fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent. And the firstborn of the poor
shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill
  thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.  Howl, O gate;
cry, O city; thou, whole Palestina, art dissolved: for there shall come
from the north a smoke, and none shall be alone in his appointed times.
What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD
hath founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.

passage: Gen 8:21-9:7

Chapter 8

And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart,
I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the
imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I
again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. While the
earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer
and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Chapter 9

And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and
multiply, and replenish the earth. And the fear of you and the dread
of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of
the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes
of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. Every moving thing that
liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you
all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof,
  shall ye not eat.  And surely your blood of your lives will I require;
  at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man;
at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man.
Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in
  the image of God made he man.  And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply;
bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.

passage: Prov 11:19-12:6

Chapter 11

As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it
to his own death. They that are of a froward heart are abomination
to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.
Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but
the seed of the righteous shall be delivered. As a jewel of gold
in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.
The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the
wicked is wrath. There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and
there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.
The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered
also himself. He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him:
but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it. He that
diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief,
  it shall come unto him.  He that trusteth in his riches shall fall;
but the righteous shall flourish as a branch. He that troubleth his
own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the
wise of heart. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he
that winneth souls is wise. Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed
in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.

Chapter 12

Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof
is brutish. A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked
devices will he condemn. A man shall not be established by wickedness:
but the root of the righteous shall not be moved. A virtuous woman is
a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in
his bones. The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels
of the wicked are deceit. The words of the wicked are to lie in wait
for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

Chapter 25

O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for
thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness
and truth. For thou hast made of a city an heap; of a defenced city
a ruin: a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built.
Therefore shall the strong people glorify thee, the city of the terrible
nations shall fear thee. For thou hast been a strength to the poor,
a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm,
a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a
storm against the wall. Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers,
as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the
branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low. And in this mountain
shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a
feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on
the lees well refined. And he will destroy in this mountain the face
of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over
all nations. He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD
will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people
shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.
And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited
for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him,
we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

passage: Gen 9:8-9:17

Chapter 9

And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, And I, behold,
I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; And with
every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and
of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark,
to every beast of the earth. And I will establish my covenant with you,
  neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood;
neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God
said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you
and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant
between me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a
cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: And I
will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living
creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to
destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look
upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and
every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. And God said
unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established
between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

passage: Prov 12:8-12:22

Chapter 12

A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of
a perverse heart shall be despised. He that is despised, and hath a
servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.
A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies
of the wicked are cruel. He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied
with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.
The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous
yieldeth fruit. The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips:
but the just shall come out of trouble. A man shall be satisfied with
good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands
shall be rendered unto him. The way of a fool is right in his own eyes:
but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise. A fool's wrath is presently
known: but a prudent man covereth shame. He that speaketh truth sheweth
forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit. There is that speaketh
like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is
but for a moment. Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil:
but to the counsellors of peace is joy. There shall no evil happen
to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. Lying lips
are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

Chapter 26

For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants
of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood,
and shall no more cover her slain.

Chapter 27

In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall
punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked
serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea. In that day
sing ye unto her, A vineyard of red wine. I the LORD do keep it; I will
water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.
Fury is not in me: who would set the briers and thorns against me in
battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together. Or let him
take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall
make peace with me. He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root:
Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.
Hath he smitten him, as he smote those that smote him? or is he slain
according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him? In measure,
when it shooteth forth, thou wilt debate with it: he stayeth his rough
wind in the day of the east wind. By this therefore shall the iniquity
  of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin;
when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are
beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.

passage: Gen 9:18-10:1

Chapter 9

And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham,
and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. These are the three
sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread. And Noah
began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank
of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.
And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and
told his two brethren without. And Shem and Japheth took a garment,
and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered
the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they
saw not their father's nakedness. And Noah awoke from his wine, and
knew what his younger son had done unto him. And he said, Cursed be
Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. And he
said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
  God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem;
and Canaan shall be his servant. And Noah lived after the flood three
hundred and fifty years. And all the days of Noah were nine hundred
and fifty years: and he died.

Chapter 10

Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and
Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.

passage: Prov 12:23-13:9

Chapter 12

A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth
foolishness. The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful
shall be under tribute. Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop:
but a good word maketh it glad. The righteous is more excellent than
his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them. The slothful
man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a
diligent man is precious. In the way of righteousness is life: and in
the pathway thereof there is no death.

Chapter 13

A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not
rebuke. A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of
the transgressors shall eat violence. He that keepeth his mouth keepeth
his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the
diligent shall be made fat. A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked
man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. Righteousness keepeth him that
is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner. There is
that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself
poor, yet hath great riches. The ransom of a man's life are his riches:
but the poor heareth not rebuke. The light of the righteous rejoiceth:
but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

Chapter 28

Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this
people which is in Jerusalem. Because ye have said, We have made
a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the
overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for
we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation
a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he
that believeth shall not make haste. Judgment also will I lay to the
line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away
the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement
with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass
through, then ye shall be trodden down by it. From the time that it
goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass
over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand
the report. For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself
on it: and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.
For the LORD shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as
  in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work;
and bring to pass his act, his strange act. Now therefore be ye not
mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord
GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.

passage: Gen 10:32-11:9

Chapter 10

These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations,
in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth
  after the flood.

Chapter 11

And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came
to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in
the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another,
Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick
for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let
us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and
let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the
whole earth. And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which
the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is
one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now
nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may
not understand one another's speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad
from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build
the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD
did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did
the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

passage: Prov 13:20-14:6

Chapter 13

He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools
shall be destroyed. Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good
shall be repayed. A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's
children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed
for want of judgment. He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he
that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. The righteous eateth to the
satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

Chapter 14

Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down
with her hands. He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD:
but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him. In the mouth of
the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve
them. Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by
the strength of the ox. A faithful witness will not lie: but a false
witness will utter lies. A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not:
but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.

Chapter 29

Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their
mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart
far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this
people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their
wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall
be hid. Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the
LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and
who knoweth us? Surely your turning of things upside down shall be
esteemed as the potter's clay: for shall the work say of him that made
it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it,
He had no understanding? Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon
shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be
esteemed as a forest? And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of
the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out
of darkness. The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the
poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. For the terrible
one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that
watch for iniquity are cut off: That make a man an offender for a word,
and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the
just for a thing of nought. Therefore thus saith the LORD, who redeemed
Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed,
neither shall his face now wax pale. But when he seeth his children,
the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name,
and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel.

passage: Gen 12:1-12:7

Chapter 12

Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from
thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew
thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee,
and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless
them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee
shall all families of the earth be blessed. So Abram departed, as the
LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy
and five years old when he departed out of Haran. And Abram took Sarai
his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they
had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they
went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan
they came. And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem,
unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land. And the
LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land:
and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

passage: Prov 14:15-14:26

Chapter 14

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to
his going. A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool
rageth, and is confident. He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly:
and a man of wicked devices is hated. The simple inherit folly: but
  the prudent are crowned with knowledge.  The evil bow before the good;
and the wicked at the gates of the righteous. The poor is hated even
of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends. He that despiseth
his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.
Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them
that devise good. In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the
lips tendeth only to penury. The crown of the wise is their riches:
but the foolishness of fools is folly. A true witness delivereth souls:
but a deceitful witness speaketh lies. In the fear of the LORD is
strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

Chapter 6

But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that
accompany salvation, though we thus speak. For God is not unrighteous
to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward
his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to
the full assurance of hope unto the end: That ye be not slothful, but
followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

passage: Mark 7:31-7:37

Chapter 7

And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the
sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. And they
  bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech;
and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. And he took him aside
from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit,
and touched his tongue; And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith
unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. And straightway his ears were
opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he
charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it; And
were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well:
he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

Chapter 6

For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no
greater, he sware by himself, Saying, Surely blessing I will bless
thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. And so, after he had
patiently endured, he obtained the promise. For men verily swear by the
greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise
the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two
immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might
have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon
the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul,
  both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high
priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

passage: Mark 9:17-9:31

Chapter 9

And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto
thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; And wheresoever he taketh him,
he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth
away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and
they could not. He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation,
how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him
unto me. And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway
the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto
him? And he said, Of a child. And ofttimes it hath cast him into
the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do
any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. Jesus said unto him,
If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with
tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. When Jesus saw that
the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying
unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him,
and enter no more into him. And the spirit cried, and rent him sore,
and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said,
He is dead. But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and
he arose. And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him
privately, Why could not we cast him out? And he said unto them, This
kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. And they
departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any
man should know it. For he taught his disciples, and said unto them,
The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill
him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.

Chapter 37

Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall
not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it
with shields, nor cast a bank against it. By the way that he came,
by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith
the LORD. For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake,
and for my servant David's sake. Then the angel of the LORD went
forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore
and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold,
they were all dead corpses. So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed,
and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. And it came to pass, as
he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech
and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into
the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

Chapter 38

In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the
son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set
thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. Then Hezekiah
turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, And said,
Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in
truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy
sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah,
saying, Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David
thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I
will add unto thy days fifteen years. And I will deliver thee and this
city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.

passage: Gen 13:12-13:18

Chapter 13

Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of
the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. But the men of Sodom were
wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly. And the LORD said unto
Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes,
and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and
eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will
I give it, and to thy seed for ever. And I will make thy seed as the
dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth,
then shall thy seed also be numbered. Arise, walk through the land in
the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.
Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre,
which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.

passage: Prov 14:27-15:4

Chapter 14

The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares
of death. In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in
the want of people is the destruction of the prince. He that is slow
to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit
exalteth folly. A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the
rottenness of the bones. He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his
Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor. The wicked is
driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.
Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that
which is in the midst of fools is made known. Righteousness exalteth
a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. The king's favour is
toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.

Chapter 15

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools
poureth out foolishness. The eyes of the LORD are in every place,
beholding the evil and the good. A wholesome tongue is a tree of life:
but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

Chapter 40

To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto
him? The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it
over with gold, and casteth silver chains. He that is so impoverished
that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh
unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not
be moved. Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told
you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of
the earth? It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the
inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens
as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: That bringeth
the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their
stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them,
and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.
To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things,
that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names
by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not
one faileth. Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My
way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God,
the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither
is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power
to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly
fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they
  shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.

passage: Gen 15:1-15:15

Chapter 15

After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision,
saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
And Abram said, LORD God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless,
and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus? And Abram
said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my
house is mine heir. And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him,
saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth
out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. And he brought him forth
abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou
be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the
Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it. And he said, LORD God,
whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it? And he said unto him,
Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old,
and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and
laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.
And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and,
lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him. And he said unto Abram,
Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not
their's, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred
years; And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and
afterward shall they come out with great substance. And thou shalt go
to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

passage: Prov 15:7-15:19

The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish
doeth not so. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the
LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. The way of the
wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth
after righteousness. Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh
the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die. Hell and destruction
are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children
of men? A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will
he go unto the wise. A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance:
but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. The heart of him
that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools
feedeth on foolishness. All the days of the afflicted are evil: but
he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast. Better is little
with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.
Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred
therewith. A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to
anger appeaseth strife. The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of
thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.

Chapter 41

Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the
beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he. The isles
saw it, and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and
came. They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his
brother, Be of good courage. So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith,
and he that smootheth with the hammer him that smote the anvil, saying,
It is ready for the sodering: and he fastened it with nails, that it
should not be moved. But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I
have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend. Thou whom I have taken
from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof,
and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not
  cast thee away.  Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed;
for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea,
I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Behold, all
they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded:
they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.
Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended
with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as
a thing of nought. For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand,
saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. Fear not, thou worm Jacob,
and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer,
  the Holy One of Israel.

passage: Gen 17:1-17:9

Chapter 17

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to
Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and
be thou perfect. And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and
will multiply thee exceedingly. And Abram fell on his face: and God
talked with him, saying, As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee,
and thou shalt be a father of many nations. Neither shall thy name any
more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of
many nations have I made thee. And I will make thee exceeding fruitful,
and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed
after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a
God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. And I will give unto thee,
and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the
land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.
And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou,
and thy seed after thee in their generations.

passage: Prov 15:20-16:9

Chapter 15

A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his
mother. Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man
of understanding walketh uprightly. Without counsel purposes are
disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due
season, how good is it! The way of life is above to the wise, that he
may depart from hell beneath. The LORD will destroy the house of the
proud: but he will establish the border of the widow. The thoughts of
the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are
pleasant words. He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but
he that hateth gifts shall live. The heart of the righteous studieth to
answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things. The LORD
is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh
the bones fat. The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among
the wise. He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he
that heareth reproof getteth understanding. The fear of the LORD is
the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

Chapter 16

The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue,
  is from the LORD.  All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes;
but the LORD weigheth the spirits. Commit thy works unto the LORD, and
thy thoughts shall be established. The LORD hath made all things for
himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. Every one that is
proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand,
he shall not be unpunished. By mercy and truth iniquity is purged:
and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil. When a man's ways
please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them
  out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it;
he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that
walk therein: I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will
hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of
the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to
bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness
out of the prison house. I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory
will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Behold,
the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before
they spring forth I tell you of them. Sing unto the LORD a new song,
and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea,
and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof. Let the
wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that
Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout
from the top of the mountains. Let them give glory unto the LORD, and
declare his praise in the islands. The LORD shall go forth as a mighty
man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea,
roar; he shall prevail against his enemies. I have long time holden
my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like
a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once. I will make
waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make
the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools. And I will bring the
blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they
have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked
things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.

passage: Gen 18:20-18:33

Chapter 18

And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and
because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether
they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come
unto me; and if not, I will know. And the men turned their faces from
thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.
And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous
with the wicked? Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city:
wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous
that are therein? That be far from thee to do after this manner, to
slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as
the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth
do right? And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within
the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. And Abraham
answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto
the LORD, which am but dust and ashes: Peradventure there shall lack
five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of
five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.
And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall
be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.
And he said unto him, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will speak:
Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not
do it, if I find thirty there. And he said, Behold now, I have taken
upon me to speak unto the LORD: Peradventure there shall be twenty
found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake.
And he said, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will speak yet but
this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will
not destroy it for ten's sake. And the LORD went his way, as soon as
he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.

passage: Prov 16:17-17:17

Chapter 16

The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his
way preserveth his soul. Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty
spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the
lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. He that handleth a
matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy
is he. The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness
of the lips increaseth learning. Understanding is a wellspring of
life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his
lips. Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health
to the bones. There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end
  thereof are the ways of death.  He that laboureth laboureth for himself;
for his mouth craveth it of him. An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and
in his lips there is as a burning fire. A froward man soweth strife:
and a whisperer separateth chief friends. A violent man enticeth his
neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good. He shutteth
his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil
to pass. The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way
  of righteousness.  He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty;
and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. The lot is
cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.

Chapter 17

Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of
sacrifices with strife. A wise servant shall have rule over a son that
causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD
trieth the hearts. A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar
giveth ear to a naughty tongue. Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth
his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.
Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children
are their fathers. Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less
do lying lips a prince. A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of
him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth. He that
covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter
separateth very friends. A reproof entereth more into a wise man than
an hundred stripes into a fool. An evil man seeketh only rebellion:
therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him. Let a bear
robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore
leave off contention, before it be meddled with. He that justifieth the
wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination
to the LORD. Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get
wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it? A friend loveth at all times,
and a brother is born for adversity.

Chapter 45

Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of
things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands
command ye me. I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I,
even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have
I commanded. I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct
all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives,
not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts. Thus saith the LORD,
The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans,
men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine:
they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they
shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee,
saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.
Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.
They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall
go to confusion together that are makers of idols. But Israel shall
be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be
ashamed nor confounded world without end.

passage: Gen 22:1-22:18

Chapter 22

And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and
said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said,
Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee
into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon
one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. And Abraham rose up
early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men
with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering,
and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him. Then on
the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.
  And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass;
and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac
his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went
both of them together. And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and
said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold
the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt
offering: so they went both of them together. And they came to the
place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there,
and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on
the altar upon the wood. And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and
took the knife to slay his son. And the angel of the LORD called unto
him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing
unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not
withheld thy son, thine only son from me. And Abraham lifted up his
eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by
his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a
burnt offering in the stead of his son. And Abraham called the name
of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount
of the LORD it shall be seen. And the angel of the LORD called unto
Abraham out of heaven the second time, And said, By myself have I sworn,
saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not
withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee,
and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven,
and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess
the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the
earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

passage: Prov 17:17-18:5

Chapter 17

A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the
presence of his friend. He loveth transgression that loveth strife:
and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction. He that hath
a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue
falleth into mischief. He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow:
and the father of a fool hath no joy. A merry heart doeth good like a
medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. A wicked man taketh
a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment. Wisdom is
before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in
the ends of the earth. A foolish son is a grief to his father, and
bitterness to her that bare him. Also to punish the just is not good,
nor to strike princes for equity. He that hath knowledge spareth his
words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Even a
fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth
his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Chapter 18

Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth
with all wisdom. A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that
his heart may discover itself. When the wicked cometh, then cometh
also contempt, and with ignominy reproach. The words of a man's mouth
are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.
It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the
  righteous in judgment.

Chapter 9

For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which
are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in
the presence of God for us: Nor yet that he should offer himself often,
as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood
of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation
of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared
to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed
unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once
offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall
he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Chapter 8

And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea
Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom
do men say that I am? And they answered, John the Baptist; but some
say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets. And he saith unto them,
But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou
art the Christ. And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things,
and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes,
and be killed, and after three days rise again.

Chapter 10

And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before
them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And
he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should
happen unto him, Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of
man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and
they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him,
and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again. And James
and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would
that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire. And he said
unto them, What would ye that I should do for you? They said unto him,
Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on
thy left hand, in thy glory. But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what
ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with
the baptism that I am baptized with? And they said unto him, We can. And
  Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of;
and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:
  But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give;
but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared. And when the
ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John.
But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they
which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over
them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it
not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your
minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant
of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but
to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Chapter 48

Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the
LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by
the way that thou shouldest go. O that thou hadst hearkened to my
commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness
as the waves of the sea: Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the
offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have
been cut off nor destroyed from before me. Go ye forth of Babylon, flee
ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this,
utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed
his servant Jacob. And they thirsted not when he led them through
the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them:
he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out. There is no peace,
saith the LORD, unto the wicked.

Chapter 49

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD
hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made
mention of my name. And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in
  the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft;
in his quiver hath he hid me; And said unto me, Thou art my servant,
O Israel, in whom I will be glorified. Then I said, I have laboured
in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely
my judgment is with the LORD, and my work with my God.

passage: Gen 27:1-27:41

Chapter 27

And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim,
so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto
him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I. And he said,
Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death: Now therefore
take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to
the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such
as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless
thee before I die. And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his
son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.
And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy
father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying, Bring me venison, and make
me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the LORD before
my death. Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which
I command thee. Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good
kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury meat for thy father,
such as he loveth: And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may
eat, and that he may bless thee before his death. And Jacob said to
Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a
smooth man: My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him
as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.
And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey
my voice, and go fetch me them. And he went, and fetched, and brought
them to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father
loved. And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which
were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:
And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon
the smooth of his neck: And she gave the savoury meat and the bread,
which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob. And he came
unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art
  thou, my son?  And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy first born;
I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and
eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me. And Isaac said unto his
son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said,
Because the LORD thy God brought it to me. And Isaac said unto Jacob,
Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be
  my very son Esau or not.  And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father;
and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are
the hands of Esau. And he discerned him not, because his hands were
hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him. And he said,
Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am. And he said, Bring it
near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless
thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him
wine and he drank. And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now,
and kiss me, my son. And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled
the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of
my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed: Therefore
God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and
plenty of corn and wine: Let people serve thee, and nations bow down
to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down
to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that
blesseth thee. And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end
of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence
of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.
And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and
said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison,
that thy soul may bless me. And Isaac his father said unto him, Who
art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau. And Isaac
trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken
venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest,
and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed. And when Esau heard
the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry,
and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father. And he
said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.
And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me
these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath
taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing
for me? And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made
  him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants;
and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now
unto thee, my son? And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one
blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau
lifted up his voice, and wept. And Isaac his father answered and
said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth,
and of the dew of heaven from above; And by thy sword shalt thou live,
and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt
have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.
And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father
blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my
father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

passage: Prov 19:16-19:25

Chapter 19

He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that
despiseth his ways shall die. He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth
unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for
his crying. A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou
deliver him, yet thou must do it again. Hear counsel, and receive
instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. There are
many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD,
that shall stand. The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man
is better than a liar. The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he
that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as
bring it to his mouth again. Smite a scorner, and the simple will
beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand
  knowledge.

Chapter 49

And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to
raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I
will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my
salvation unto the end of the earth. Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer
of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the
nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise,
princes also shall worship, because of the LORD that is faithful, and
the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee. Thus saith the LORD,
In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have
I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant
of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate
heritages; That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that
are in darkness, Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their
  pastures shall be in all high places.  They shall not hunger nor thirst;
neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on
them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.

Chapter 31

And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to
thy kindred; and I will be with thee. And Jacob sent and called Rachel
and Leah to the field unto his flock, And said unto them, I see your
father's countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of
my father hath been with me. And ye know that with all my power I have
served your father. And your father hath deceived me, and changed my
wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me. If he said thus,
The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the cattle bare speckled:
and if he said thus, The ringstraked shall be thy hire; then bare all
the cattle ringstraked. Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your
father, and given them to me. And it came to pass at the time that
the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream,
and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked,
speckled, and grisled. And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream,
saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I. And he said, Lift up now thine
eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ringstraked,
speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee.
I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where
thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land,
and return unto the land of thy kindred. And Rachel and Leah answered
and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in
our father's house? Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath
sold us, and hath quite devoured also our money. For all the riches
which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children's:
now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.

passage: Prov 21:3-21:21

Chapter 21

To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.
The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one
that is hasty only to want. The getting of treasures by a lying tongue
is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death. The robbery
of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.
The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work
is right. It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with
a brawling woman in a wide house. The soul of the wicked desireth
evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes. When the scorner
is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed,
he receiveth knowledge. The righteous man wisely considereth the house
of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.
Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry
himself, but shall not be heard. A gift in secret pacifieth anger:
and a reward in the bosom strong wrath. It is joy to the just to
do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in
the congregation of the dead. He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor
man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich. The wicked shall
be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.
It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an
angry woman. There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling
of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up. He that followeth after
righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.

passage: Isa 58:1-58:11

Chapter 58

Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew
my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did
righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of
me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.
Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore
have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold,
in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.
Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of
wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to
be heard on high. Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a
man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and
to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast,
and an acceptable day to the LORD? Is not this the fast that I have
chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens,
and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is it
not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that
are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover
him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? Then shall
thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring
forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory
of the LORD shall be thy rereward. Then shalt thou call, and the LORD
shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take
away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger,
and speaking vanity; And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and
satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity,
and thy darkness be as the noon day: And the LORD shall guide thee
continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones:
and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water,
  whose waters fail not.

passage: Gen 43:26-43:31

Chapter 43

And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in
their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.
And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well,
the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive? And they answered,
Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they
bowed down their heads, and made obeisance. And he lifted up his eyes,
and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother's son, and said, Is this your
younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious
unto thee, my son. And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn
upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into
his chamber, and wept there. And he washed his face, and went out,
and refrained himself, and said, Set on bread.

passage: Gen 45:1-45:16

Chapter 45

  Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him;
and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man
with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren. And he wept
aloud: and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard. And Joseph
said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his
brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence.
And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And
they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold
into Egypt. Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves,
that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.
For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are
five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.
And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth,
and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you
that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh,
and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.
Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy
son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me,
tarry not: And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt
be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children's children,
and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast: And there will
I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and
thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty. And, behold,
your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth
that speaketh unto you. And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in
Egypt, and of all that ye have seen; and ye shall haste and bring down my
  father hither.  And he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck, and wept;
and Benjamin wept upon his neck. Moreover he kissed all his brethren,
and wept upon them: and after that his brethren talked with him.
And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh's house, saying, Joseph's
brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants.

passage: Prov 21:23-22:4

Chapter 21

Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.
The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.
He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and
spareth not. The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more,
when he bringeth it with a wicked mind? A false witness shall perish:
but the man that heareth speaketh constantly. A wicked man hardeneth
his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way. There is no
wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD. The horse is
prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

Chapter 22

A GOOD name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour
rather than silver and gold. The rich and poor meet together: the
LORD is the maker of them all. A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and
hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. By humility
and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

Chapter 65

Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one
saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my
servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all. And I will bring forth
a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains:
and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.
And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a place
for the herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me.
But ye are they that forsake the LORD, that forget my holy mountain,
that prepare a table for that troop, and that furnish the drink offering
unto that number. Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye
shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not
answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes,
and did choose that wherein I delighted not. Therefore thus saith the
Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold,
my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants
shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed: Behold, my servants shall sing
for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl
for vexation of spirit. And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto
my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by
another name: That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless
himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall
swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten,
and because they are hid from mine eyes.

passage: Gen 46:1-46:7

Chapter 46

And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba,
and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac. And God spake
unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And
he said, Here am I. And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear
not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation:
I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee
up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes. And Jacob rose
up from Beersheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and
their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent
to carry him. And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they
had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob, and all
his seed with him: His sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters,
and his sons' daughters, and all his seed brought he with him into Egypt.

passage: Prov 23:15-24:5

Chapter 23

My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things. Let not
thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the
day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall
not be cut off. Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart
in the way. Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness
shall clothe a man with rags. Hearken unto thy father that begat thee,
and despise not thy mother when she is old. Buy the truth, and sell
it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. The father
of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise
child shall have joy of him. Thy father and thy mother shall be glad,
and she that bare thee shall rejoice. My son, give me thine heart,
  and let thine eyes observe my ways.  For a whore is a deep ditch;
and a strange woman is a narrow pit. She also lieth in wait as for a
prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men. Who hath woe? who
hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds
without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the
wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. Look not thou upon the wine
when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth
itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like
an adder. Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall
utter perverse things. Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the
midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. They have
stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me,
and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

Chapter 24

Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is
established: And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all
precious and pleasant riches. A wise man is strong; yea, a man of
  knowledge increaseth strength.
