This group is to share common interest in vertical shaft furnaces often called cupola furnaces. These furnaces are primarily used for iron and copper alloy founding although other uses are known such as wrought iron production. Other topics that are foundry related are encouraged as long as they are to the benefit of foundry practice. Blacksmithing especially wrought iron production in a cupola, or non-ferrous casting such as aluminum is also allowed.

This photo is from A & B Castings. This shows a cupola larger than the typical hobby scale. The 300lb single tap requires the work of a team. Notice the amount of safety gear and that those not directly involved stand clear. Another interesting design feature is that the shell is not round but rather polygonal. This aproach may be useful for others who cannot find a round shell to suit their needs.
