The Concordia University Pagan Society
CUPS stands for Concordia University Pagan Society and the notion of multiple cups brought the notion of multiple shared ideas and philosophies. CUPS was founded in October of 1994 and received its charter in January of 1995. The original logo showed 3 cups in a triangular for, later to 3 cups clinking together (which got dropped because we did not want the view being of drunken pagans) to the multifaith logo I think is still in use.
CUPS was intended to introduce people at Concordia to a strong community of Paganism at its school, help demystify and debunk some of the myths about modern Pagans, offer workshops and rituals, and just plain be there for new folks to the notion of Paganism.
The club has had a "presence" at several public events: Sabbat rituals that it leads for the Montreal community, Samhain/Yule fair, Camping festivals.
Its core members are well connected with the Montreal Pagan community and can provide info on what is going on in the greater community while provided a smaller environment for people not yet comfortable with public activities.
It has a club office on the Loyola campus where it has a small lending library, a TV and VCR and DVD for film viewing, lots of films and CD and a great little space just to sit in. Those who volunteer to open the office provide this environment for students to come visit as well as have a nice comfy place to do homework in peace... with a great coffee. Did I mention the office also has a coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge? Home away from home!
It is always looking for new members, inspiring executive volunteers, and new ideas to offer to Concordia!
