My personal interests are in forecasting, and in what I call Astro-magic (using charts and transits to do personal magical work - not quite chart-correcting, but similar in a magical way).

Dear all,

Earth Hour is today...31st March.. between 8.30pm- 9.30pm local time..where ever you are!

Its a time when people are encouraged to turn off all electric devises (non-essential) ..save power and make a statement!

For our part, 2nd year running, PF London & friends will be gathering in central london for a candle-lit walk along river Thames.

We are starting to gather at Tower Hill tube station - where there is a watch-out balcony area..with a huge Sun-dial sculpture (appropriate !)

We'll be there from 8pm onwards......But at 8.30pm we'll start the walk..

It's a short walk.. but will be social and enjoyable.. with candles!

We'lll cross main road through under-pass / road, to the side of Tower of London... walk along it's perimeter and get to the riverbank..

Walking on, we'll cross Tower Bridge.. to the other side, and get to the flashy buildings of City Hall..

They have all sorts of floor fountain - water features, lights, and what looks like a giant seating area..

We'll be there for a bit of informal picnic (at night)..and then conclude the event.. (London bridge station is nearby).

This is just a social event.. enjoyable...no ritual as such.. (that's all for Earth Day next month in Trent park).

I just this minute sent you another email welcoming you to the Moot!

For directions, if you can find your way to East Croydon station, there are
plenty of buses outside the station going along the High Street. I forget all
the numbers but I remember the 119 and 466 go from outside East Croydon station
to nearly opposite the Skylark.

This assumes you are coming using public transport, of course. If you are
checking on the A-Z South End is a short stretch of road betweeen the well known
High Street and Brighton Road.

We will try to sit on the comfy seats on the right as you come into the Skylark.
Sometimes these are taken in which case we will be further to the back. On the
busiest days we have been known to have to go upstairs so do remmebr to check
upstairs if you cannot find us.

I will try to remember to bring along a little toy crow so you will know who we
are

How are you doing? Did you manage to get a glimpse of last night's `Super Moon'? Here in London is was cloudy, so I missed it.

Hope some of you got to see it. (Full moon in Scorpio happened to coincide with moon being closest to Earth, so it would have been the biggest moon ever).

If any one managed to get a photo (your own please. Not some circulated one from internet), please send them to me, ad I'll share it with others on PF London website, with credit given to you :-)

SOLAR & LUNAR Eclipses, INDIGO & BLUE moons; VENUS transit of the Sun.

The news is everywhere in the media and internet groups. But here's the facts. On 20th May'12, there is an annular Solar Eclipse (23:47 hrs GMT) in Gemini (new moon). It's not visible fro UK. And then on 4th June'12, there is a Lunar Eclipse (11:12hrs GMT) in Sagittarius (full moon). Am sure magicians and witches will be busy doing magical work on those new moon & full moon days as usual. Next set of eclipses will be in November & December of this year. INDIGO moon: Quick word on this- There are 2 consecutive new moons in the same sign (20th May in gemini, and 19th June also in Gemini). This is what I call an Indigo moon. Of course there is a BLUE moon (2nd full moon in same calendar month) on 31st August. Finally (well, not finally), there is the much anticipated VENUS TRANSIT of the Sun. Basically the planet Venus will be seen passing across the front of the Sun (from our point of view). This is on the 6th June! For those interested, this is just like a Solar Eclipse by the moon, except it is Venus that is in front of the Sun, and it is so small, that it doesn't block out the whole Sun :-) So really it's like an annular eclipse of the Sun by Venus! :-)

Alas, we did not receive any entries. No worries, as we may do a more relaxed video competition. EVENTS

1. PAGAN Pride PARADE (London)

Many of you have been asking about this. As far as we know, The Atlantis Bookshop in conjunction with PF London's support - is organising this year's parade in the later part of June (close to Midsummer). Watch out for updates on our website.

2. Jack of the Green - HASTING festival.

This annual festival culminates on this coming bank holiday MONDAY 7th May'12. Check their website http://www.HastingsJack.co.uk for details. Am sure there will be giants and fairies, and Green man. Might be raining, but hey, the land still needs the rain :-)

3. PFL MIDSUMMER Open ritual.

The next PFL open ritual is Midsummer, and it takes place a week early, due to conway hall bookings. It is on Thursday 14th June'12, 7.30pm for 8pm start. Ritual by Moonlit Path Coven. Details in PFL website.

4. Course: WICCA & WITCHCRAFT - 1-day taster (evening).

This is on in few week, on Thursday 16th May in a central London venue. (Run by Mani & April). We'll be covering all the basics, in about 2-3 hrs (we'll try!) between 7pm- 9.30pm. There will be question time of 30mins afterwards. Fee: �10 payable on the day. But pls book in advance by e-mail to me or phone me on 077689-41373, as we have only 12 spaces total, and 6 are gone already!

5. ASTROLOGY webinar.

It's quite worrying..Every day ..in recent week, I find such spam `links' from friends, indicating their accounts got hacked. Obvious that some hackers have been harvesting lots of e-mails, and are now `working on it'.

Makes me wonder if my own e-mail is `sending out' spam to people on my lists...without me even knowing. If so, I hope someone will let me know.

Meanwhile, here are some steps I thought would be useful for us all:

(Not all these will be applicable to all).

1. Keep your firewall & virus-protection softwares installed AND regularly (almost daily) updated. Hundreds of new trojan & viruses are created and released by hackers every day - for fun or to exploit or to make a statement.

2. When using your own mobile devise (phones, ipads, e-book readers, blackberry etc)...and accessing the internet / e-mails/ social networks...from cafe's, shops, global hot-spots, wi-fi etc in shopping centres etc... be very careful. Anyone with a half-decent scanning software can intercept and copy your codes/passwords.. !

3. When actually using other computers - in shops, cafe's, work-places... where you are using another computer on an open network, becareful. If you can, avoid using external computers to check your private e-mails.. and if you must, clear the browser of your browsing history/cookies/ passwords [some external networked computers don't allow this...in which case you are bug***d!]

4. Always log in and LOG-OUT from any online e-mail and social network systems ...after using them for the moment. [**even if it is your own home computer!**] This is where people go wrong more than half the time. Yahoo, hotmail, googlemail..etc and twitter/facebook are all online log-in sites that work on a browser software - such as internet explorer / netscape or Google chrome!

- The point is, longer you have your account logged in...more exposed your account is for hackers to have a go...and sooner or later ..they will crack it. (Applies when you log in to use it, then go off to watch tv, take a shower, cook, have long phone calls... or just leave it on and go out for the day..).

-It doesn't matter if you have the best firewall... log-out when you have finished. Re-logging takes a few key-strokes and few seconds...but saves your account!!

5. Protect your self...and you are protecting your friends! Remember, in your address book, there may be many hundreds of e-mail lists. One vulnerable account can expose hundreds of other people's accounts!

6. When sending mass e-mails to people, groups,....please `blind carbon copy' (Bcc) all their e-mails.. so each person on that list knows it's coming from you...but can not know who else you copied it to. And if their account gets hacked, they can't expose all those other people.. (bit like witchcraft.. don't expose your friends to the world).

7. Don't buy cheap virus/firewall software... Get a decent one like..Norton or McAfey etc.. And regardless of what other `experts (?)' say, don't upload a free firewall..from the internet. Nothing in the world is truly free. Chances are those free softwares have some flaws, or don't have support or daily updates. So they become out of date from the moment you start using them!!

8. If you see a strange e-mail, with no subject matter ...or one that does not seem relevant, DON'T open it.. and if you have to open it... don't click on any links!

9. Finally, Spammers are even setting up very clever paypal/bank/e-bay like domain names (with just one tiny spelling change...which on a quick look ...seems like the genuine thing).

example:

www.e-bayi.com has an extra i at the end..which can seem like your eye is splaying tricks..so you ignore it. Those mails ask you to check your account...`because of a security issue' etc (very clever in panicking you!). If you just HOVER over the link they show, you can see...on the bottom of the browser..what that link really is. This is because anyone can type a link address.. but put a real link to go somewhere else (often to a spam/harvest site).

Here's an example

www.pflondon.org is a web address..but I have put a link in it to actually go to my blog (where this safety guide is also blogged). (just click it and you'll see! :-)

Spammers and hackers are 1000 times more clever than this!

So.. be safe all.

I quite agree with Mani that spam and hacked email accounts are a real nuisance
now. Here is a message I composed for another group, regarding the recent hack
of 450,000 Yahoo passwords:

Apparently 450,000 passwords have been outed by d3dd3 and we are yet to
experience the consequences.

If you have a Yahoo account, you might find this website helpful to see if your
account has been hacked.

and, from that very same blog, here is a partial analysis of those 450K leaked
passwords showing how not to set a password

   * 2,295: The number of times a sequential list of numbers was used, with
"123456? by far being the most popular password. There were several other
instances where the numbers were reversed, or a few letters were added in a
token effort to mix things up.
   * 160: The number of times "111111? is used as a password, which is only
marginally better than a sequential list of numbers. The similarly creative
"000000? is used 71 times.
   * 780: The number of times "password" was used as the password. Apparently,
absolutely no thought went into security in these instances.
   * 233: The number of times "password" was used in conjunction with a few
numbers behind it. Apparently, the barest minimum of thoughts went into security
here.
   * 437: The number of times "welcome" is used. With a password like that,
you're just asking to be hacked.
   *  333: The number of times "ninja" is used. Pirates, unfortunately, didn't
make the list.
   * 137,559: The number of Yahoo credentials that were leaked.
   * 106,873: The number of Gmail credentials that were leaked. Hotmail, which
was the next most frequently cited e-mail service, had fewer than half the
number of users hit.
   * 161: The number of times "freedom" is used, suggesting a lot of patriotic
users. "America" was used 68 times.
   * 161: The number of times the f-word is used in some combination. There are a
lot of angry people out there.
     *133: The number of times "baseball" appears as a password. It's the most
popular sport on the list, proving that it is indeed America's national pastime.
It just may not be the best password.
   * 106: The number of times "superman" is used as a password. That's nearly
double the amount of times "batman" is used and triple the frequency of
"spiderman."
   * 52: The number of times "starwars" is used. The force is not with this
password.
   * 56: The number of times "winner" is used.
   *32: The number of times "lakers" appears. It tied with "maverick," although
fortunately "the_heat" or "celtics" weren't on this list.
   * 27: The number of times "ncc1701? is used as a password. For those of you
who aren't trekkies, that's the designation code for the Starship Enterprise.
"startrek" is used 17 times, while "ncc1701a," the designation for the
Enterprise used in later Star Trek movies, is used 15 times.

Word on the street is that d3dd3 will target gmail and hotmail accounts next

We all know that apart from the Beltane festivities, the next big cycle of festivities take place between September and December, with Autumn Equinox, Samhain & Yule events coming up. It’s not official, but we all know we sort of `feel’ it to be a deep magical time.

4. Advance news: October Plenty harvest festival in London -21^st Oct’12

October Plenty is an Autumn harvest celebration held annually in Southwark. Beginning on the Bankside, by Shakespeare's Globe, October Plenty mixes ancient seasonal customs and theatre with contemporary festivity, joining with historic Borough Market, Southwark. It is a collective celebration of the seasons, weather and food, in a public place, with access to everyone. The event is free, and happens whatever the weather. 5. Advance news: Samhain Celebrations by Pagan Future Fests – 21^st Oct’12

First they gave us Samhain Celebration in 2011, then Belostra in April of this year. Now PFF are back with their 2^nd annual Samhain even - with Live Music (Inkubus Sukubus, amongst other bands!), Tarot Reading, Pagan Supplies, Talks & Workshops..and big Drum Out. 6. Pagan Federation membership – easy on line *NEW*

Pagan Federation is finally stepping into the 21^st century . The new IT manager Peter has finally sorted out the long term dreams of many people who wanted to join the PF by filling/paying online. This is your chance to see live archaeology within the London M25.    Scadbury Manor was the birth place of Elizabethan spy master Sir Francis Walsingham, and also the place where the warrant was raised for Christopher Marlow's arrest in 1593.

Here are details of the Scadbury open weekend:

"The Orpington and District Archaeological Society (ODAS) are holding their annual Open Weekend at Scadbury Manor on Saturday 8h and Sunday 9th September, 2.00pm - 4.30 (last entry). Admission free.

Visitors to the Open Weekend can follow a self-guided trail around the moated manor site, see ODAS' excavations, and explore the foundations of the Tudor kitchens and Great Hall to see how they would have been used when the house was owned by the Walsingham family. It's also possible to see the World War II defences, and a restored shepherd's or gamekeeper's hut which belonged to the estate in the 19th century.

There are refreshments, bookstall and exhibition about the history of Scadbury (and WC).

Access is from the public footpath around the estate. The entrance to the site is where the footpath passes the moated site. The nearest access from the road is along the footpath at 14 St Paul's Wood Hill; turn left along the circular footpath, 5 mins walk. From Old Perry Street car park, the entrance is around 30 mins walk along the footpath. There is some limited parking at the site for elderly/disabled visitors: apply with SAE to ODAS, 28 Church Avenue, Sidcup, DA14 6BU.

Well, Halloween season is almost over.. :-)

But we still have a few good related events going on..

1. Tamesa: River of Souls Samhain Ritual 2012 (in Central London)

We are gathering by the river Thames on the 31st October’2012, around 8pm by the Millennium Bridge (St-Paul’s side) ..for this annual ritual. In Greek mythology, Charon the ferryman sails souls of the dead across river Styx to the Underworld (he requires coins as payment). So for this night, river Thames (meaning `dark one’) stands in for river Styx, and as token gesture for our ancestors’ spirits, we will offer small coins into Thames.. It’s an evening where you can dress up freely in your Withcy, pagan or magical robes, cloaks and attires...and be seen.. as everyone else is busy doing their fancy-dress parties in London. We will facilitate a very simple ceremony.. of creating sacred space, calling ancestral quarters in place of east, south, west & north...and honour our ancestors as well as the thousands of spirits that inhabit the river Thames (from the bodies & bones that have been thrown into Thames for many centuries...).

*alert* Extra- We'll be doing some eco-magic through the Water, to send protection to those Whales & Dolphines in the east where they are under threat from Whalers*
