Next weekend are the open days for the Orpington and District
Archaeological Society open days (September 12/13th 2009) for viewing
the remains of the Scadbury moated manor at Chislehurst, Bromley.
This is open from 2.00 to 4.30 pm both days.

There are few chances to see a working archaeological site within the
M25. For further details see - <http://www.odas.org.uk/>

Scadbury was the country pad of Sir Thomas Walsingham, the favourite
wine merchant of Queen Elizabeth. It is also the birthplace of Sir
Francis Walsingham, Queen Elizabeth's spy master general. The warrant
for the arrest Marlow the playwright (aka Marley and a few other names)
was raised at Scadbury in 1593.

The site is within Scadbury Nature Reserve. Neither the LB Bromley
nor ODAS will take any responsibility for the results of anyone picking
the wild fungi which start to appear this time of Year. Also
Elizabethan brickwork was not built to British Standard and is now
highly suspect.

There is another site in London which is also open all year. This is
the foreshore of the River Thames. No digging is allowed, as the
Thames does that for you. See <http://www.thamesdiscovery.org/> to
join the mudlarks.

Hi,

As my first email did not get through, I assume it fell foul of Yahoo anti spamming.    A certain organisation has been using my name in vain,  without my permission and knowledge, to spam social drugs.    I have been receiving bounced emails from ISPs for email addresses which no longer exist.   The organisation can not be named as the law is there to protect the guilty.     Thus my email address has been added to the spam list.

Next weekend are the open days for the Orpington and District Archaeological Society open days (September 12/13th 2009) for viewing the remains of the Scadbury moated manor at Chislehurst, Bromley.    This is open from 2.00 to 4.30 pm both days.

Scadbury Moated Manor (Chislehurst) - Open Weekend

Saturday and Sunday 12th and 13th September 2009 from 2 - 4:30

  • Excavations in progress
  • Ruined remains of medieval manor house
  • Bookstall & refreshments

Self-guided tours of excavations from 2 pm to 4:30 pm

No need to book in advance - just come on the day

The tours start at the point where the estate circular footpath in Scadbury Nature Reserve passes the moated site.

Map of Scadbury

The nearest access from the road is via the footpath between 12 & 14 St Paul's Wood Hill, turning left along the circular footpath (5 mins walk). This entrance is not suitable for disabled access - use the Perry Street entrance. The footpath can be uneven and muddy in wet weather. The main entrance to Scadbury Park is in Old Perry Street (with parking).

There is an entrance in Perry Street itself - this is a 20 mins walk to the site.

Some parking is available for elderly or disabled people - use the Perry Street entrance for disabled vehicle access.    (Single track farm road with plenty of potholes and few passing places - Edmund.)

Dear Edmund,

Your email was not so much a victim of Yahoo anti-spam but of Yahoo! groups
potential spam. Any messages thus marked are held for approval by the moderator,
i.e. me - and I very rarely check the group unless something is flagged for my
attention, which this wasn't. I only found out about it by chance.

Edmund, I am sorry if I was not able to get your message posted in time. I see
this has caused distress to you and would like to assure you that no malicious
intent was intended.

Obviously, I should check for similar emails more often from now on and not wait
for any messgae from Yahoo.

With Best Wishes

Paul

Hi Mani,

I don't know why you chose to bring this subject up now, but the group has been
moderated now for several weeks, as you would have seen if you had checked the
message on the home page

Hi,

I just updated the website and I couldn't help but notice that the next Moot is
on the Solstice.

So how about a Solstice themed Moot?

love

That sounds like a good idea. Do you mean a Solstice themed discussion, Solstice
themed attire, or both? =D

Hi everyone,

It's the Solstice on Monday, so I am proposing a solstice themed event, which
will really only include the Solstice a s a topic of conversation -- unless you
can think of a way to dress for the night (in which case, please do!)

i do hope to see everyone in the Skylark on Monday

Cheers

Dear pagans, magicians, ritualists, psychics, witches..

You have no doubt seen the fantastic full moon today.. a clearer night compared to yesterday..which was the night of a full (blue) moon and a partial lunar eclipse in sign of cancer.

I truly believe it's a magical time..  more so that other moments..  Cancerian moon symbolises hightened emotions, sensitivity, nurturing, empathy and such.. and coupled with a partial eclipse..to me  strikes as a very significant gateway..  !

These blue moons occur every 3 years on average..  when 2 full moons happen in a month. But ofcourse a month is a very arbitary measure of time.. devised by man..  or several men (georgian, julian and other calendars).   For example, the hindu month is 2 weeks `behind' (to the general english calebdar).. similar with chinese and islamic ones..

So the best one to use is an astrological/ stellar measure..   and by that, a `true' blue moon is when 2 full moons occur in the same astrological sign.  And that would you believe is going to happen soon..  in 23rd  september & 23rd October of this year 2010..in the first sign of the zodiac (aries). ..it links to the Autumn equinox and Samhain .  Make whate of it as you will.  I just wished to give you info..so you don't miss  the opportunity!. (Ofcourse, the next one after that is in 2013 in aquarius, and one after that in 2016 in sagitarrius).

We've had the jupiter-neptune conjunction thrice in 2009..very beneficial..  and the saturn-uranus opposition twice (disruptive and world-power changing to say the least.. heralding the Obama years and the credit crunch!!).   We have that aspect coming up again in 2010..so be ready once more..

Anyway, lot happening in 2010..  And is it the end of the world in 2012? eh, only for the hollywood producers..(go see that film..and while you are at it..go see Avatar..  all about planet spirituality told in a clever way!!).

But for now..it's good enough to want a better world from the flames that are everywhere..  out there around the world and within many hearts. The Gaia conventions (3) may be over for PF London, but Wyrd-i conventions is coming this year.. our chance to weave kinship, stregnth, honour, truth & trust between us all.

So here are the quantum blessing & wishes of peace, love & joy to all. May there be Truth & Beauty, Charm and Strangeness in all you do.. that all that swims below may reflect all the wonders that glide above.. and your inner light may shine out to the furthest Stars.. So may it be..  in the names of the Earth Goddesses and Star Gods!

Bright Stellar Blessings
-Mani & April

Imbolc is said to be the time when the Winter Goddess who has kept her grip on the land loosens her hold, so that the ice melts and waters break and flow again. It is when the Goddess Bride (Brigid) `returns’ to the land. Her path is lit by candles, symbolising the return of light and warmth which is imminent. Bride is a Gooddess of poetry, inspiration, healing, knot-magic and weaving. She brings the gifts of 3 flames!

Join us on this open ritual, as our Fool takes you on a journey between the worlds, to the domains of Hecate and Bride. We will be doing cord magic in this ritual, so come prepared with one intention.

Date: Thursday 28th January 2010

Time: 7.30pm for 8pm start. Event ends at 10pm.  Venue:

Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, Holborn. entrance:

£5 (£4 to PF membrs & concessions).   Please bring seasonal food & drinks to share with others.

`Ye Olde Unicorns’ will be facilitating this ritual, and dedicating it to Maureen Brown, Wiccan High Priestess who passed away 5 years ago!  A full feature will appear in the PFL website by Imbolc.

see you all there!

Bright Sparks & Blessings
