Philip, If I understand, use the ARC TWEEN TANGENTS tool with the DIMENSION option radius set to the turnout radius and make a temp arc tween the tangents

Jeremy, Bruce is correct it is usually one car length. However, (there always seems to be one of those) you don't mention whether you are using truck mounted
