The Coxcomb Academy for the Performing Arts is an institution of higher learning, dedicated to promoting and teaching the performing arts. It is our mission to research, teach, and practice performances as they might have been in pre-17th century Europe, then use what we have learned to promote the advancement of entertainers and educators and enhance the SCA experience for everyone.

We are particularly interested in variety arts which would have been used by street entertainers, court performers, royal jesters, and the like. But our students and teachers are also able to explore any other performing art which they find worthy of attention. As a group, we have explored juggling, conjuring, puppetry, acrobatics, commedia dell arte, storytelling, stage combat, and theatrical improvisation.

The faculty and students we are able to bring together range the full gamut of skills and dedication. We have fulltime professional entertainers, weekend community actors, longtime hobbyists, and the guy who just wandered over to see what all the noise was about and stayed to learn. We accept all but the mean of spirit.
