As many of you will know by now it has been suggested that we ring for St
Georges Day . Now Bishop Christopher(Coventry) has backed the idea and has
written to Michael Gray (Guild President) suggesting we ring as many towers as
possible on April 23rd between 6 and 6.30

I have a rope splicing course and taster session running on this afternoon and could do with a little help with cups of tea and cake distribution. Anyone available??
I am building up an FAQ section for the Guild website.
I've thought of:-
How do I join the Guild?
How do I make contact with the Guild?
I am not a member of the Guild. Can I come to Guild events?
Am I going to be taken up to the ceiling?
Do you have to be strong to ring?
How do I start to learn to ring?
I can ring basic things, but I want to ring more complicated methods.
Why Do People Ring Bells?
Are there any others that you think should be added in?
You might also wish to have a look at the responses to see if you agree with
what I have said!
Mike
The centre pages on Pip Penney's superb book on teaching bell handling make really good posters -clearly showing common issues with rope handing and the correct style to employ.
I have a small supply of these which I can supply at no cost. they need mounting on card ideally or pinning on a notice board.
A Stedman Triples practice or two has been suggested and seem a good idea.
If you would like to come for a Stedman Triples session at HWRC - in June - or if you know someone from your tower who would be interested please let me know....
The latest addition to the new Guild website is a set of image galleries. They
are mainly my own pathetic attempts to emulate David Bailey, plus some that have
been sent to me and the odd thing from a Google trawl! Please have a look to see
what is there - down the left side of the homepage to find the link.
If you have anything of interest that you are happy to be put online please send
it to me and I will see if I can add it in. Names, where appropriate, to a
group photograph would help.
Please remember that photographs are not huge in size on the website, certainly
no bigger than a postcard. Getting images to that size before emailing them to
me would save me quite a bit of time.
I am not necessarily looking for photographs of the outside of the church
looking mainly at the tower - I've done most of them. Do you have something of
interest in the church? A tomb? A fine font? A picture of the ringing room
showing the cobweb that has been there since 1967! A picture of a now grey
haired, or even bald, ringer some years ago doing some work on the bells with a
full head of dark hair ;-)
What I am really without are:-
Pictures of interest of churches in the V-Z name category - I don't know why,
other letters are much better covered. The Beauchamp chapel in St Mary's, Peter
Quinn and his gang doing augementation at Wellesbourne, the inside of Wootton
Wawen church - I don't have anything - do you?
People - ringers past and present. I've nothing much of historical interest on
a personal level. Meeting photographs from the past. Peal/Quarter peal bands
for special occasion. The CCCBR meeting in Leamington all those years ago. Those
really fashionable kipper ties that now, erm, aren't! etc.
All offerings will be gratefully received.
Donations to the Allesley restoration fund will be gratefully received at;
Please Don't Print That Picture

A big thank you to everyone who supported this day it was a great success and raised appx. £1465.
I shall be making the following payments over the next few days.
Graham Nabb for money owed for repairs £300
Coventry Guild of Bellringers CCT Maintenance fund £665
Coventry Guild of Bellringers Bell restoration Fund £250
Churches Conservation Trust £250
There may be a little extra to pass on over the next few days..
In addition all profits from the food at Avon Dassett ( and wasn't it good!!) will go to the Churches Conservation Trust who have spent a huge amount of money restoring the building.
I am sorry there was a little wheel slippage ( fortunately it only affected only 6 of the 28 or more bands that rang) - I have a bit of tinkering to do to correct that - but it was only the second time they have been rung after all the work.
Ettington ringing raised £205 which will go a long way to clear the shortfall on the cost of repair work there.
Can I publicly thank the stewards without who's support they day could not happen and of course all those who allowed their bells to be available for this event.
Stars of the day were Harvey Innocent (Offchurch) and Becky Hawkins (Kineton), part of the Kids in Charge group, who notched up a tower total of 21 during the day which must have quadrupled their previous tower total. And they still had energy and enthusiasm at the last tower! Perhaps their driver Hazel Taylor should get the prize!
It was also good to see John Allen from Lichfield at Avon Dassett finally ringing on the bells he tried to remove 30 years ago!!!!
The importance of completing these for towers was emphasised at the Tower Management Course in January - a specimen one is attached for information - each tower of course will vary as will the risks within it.
The Guild website has now been largely finished in its new format.
Each tower has its own page. Please check yours for errors and omissions - it
is your page; do you want more put on it? You could make it your own ringers
mini-website if you like - just send the documents to me in electronic format.
The Ringing Centre website is now part of the Guild website.
There are lots of images - room for more, but get in quickly as Graham is well
ahead in the stakes on this one! ;-)
There are many more documents to download and share about Education, etc.
There is an FAQ section - more possible questions and answers would be
appreciated.
There is a much more comprehensive events calendar - I can add in local events
if you send me the details.
Anything else that you would like? Just ask and I will see what I can do.
