Does anyone know of local foodbanks or food pantries looking for help next week?
We are looking for a positive way to spend this holiday and we thought helping
at a food bank or pantry would be one option. Any info would be most
appreciated. Thanks.

We have two three week old kittens. Want a kitten? Now is the time to pick
yours. They will be ready in three weeks. One is white with orange spots, not
sure of the sex, I believe female. The other is a soft grey kitten, probably the
opposite of whatever the white one is.

Please be aware that I although I email corresponded with the poster regarding
her offer of employment, I know nothing more than their website address.

As always, use your heads and check things out before jumping in. Any company
that is legit will not ask you for money or anything in payment for a job.

Like I said, I did not talk much with them, but felt that they were on the up

Marty,

You are hitting a universal truth about Potter County. There simply are not
enough qualified contractors to go around. These places get busy and it is very
hard to get work done. I would try New York, as we have had to get plumbers and
electricians from there, also fencing contractors.

You get to be a bit of a do it yourselfer. Another contact I would suggest is
the Amish. Although they don't live with many of the comforts that we are used
to, they can build a fine house or addition.

They once roofed our house for $175 and it has never leaked and it's been seven
years, now, that was not our entire roof, just a peak that was leaking due to
ice damming and the contractor told us it would be $1700!

Just an idea for you to consider. Hamilton Construction is good and depending
upon what you want, there are some people out my way in Ulysses who are good.
Fred Emmel on Emmel Road in Ulysses is super, but you have to catch him when
he's not busy.

Good luck with it.

I trying to find a contractor who would be interested in building a 12' x 20'
addition to my cabin in Pike Township. I snail-mailed specs and plans to one
contractor in May and still don't have an estimate. Called another one recently
and left a message and also emailed specs and plans......... no response. Did
the same to a third contractor.......still nothing.

Is business so good that no one is taking on additional work?

OK, here's what I found out. Apparently the county is looking for seasonal
dwelling units (camps) that were built in 2004 or later. It seems that if a
camp was built during that time frame, it can be done without having to follow
the state Uniform Construction Code, which came into effect during 2004. Some
of these camps may not be showing up on the tax rolls for this reason. Also, if
you build a camp, in 2004 or later, and use this exemption from the building
code, you may never use your camp as a full time residence.

Now, if you built your camp BEFORE the code went into effect (2004), then you
are exempt(grandfathered) from this regulation. However, regardless of when
your camp was built, if you add an addition to it, then you must follow the
current code (UCC) regarding permits and inspections.

My thanks to the county and local officals for this information.

Hi to all.

I had a camp built in 1990 for use as a seasonal dwelling. It's not that big,
only 16' x 24' with a loft on 9.5 acres, but it has all that's needed for
living; well water, septic system, satellite TV and internet, and the place is
in excellant condition.

My intention is to move up here as a full time resident when I retire. Well,
I'm now retired and I have one of the local contractors working on a price for
an addition to the place; the size was OK as a camp but it's too small for full
time living.

Now a possible problem..... I was reading the Endeavor News
(www.endeavornews.com) on-line and when I looked at one headline, my eyes almost
fell out. According to the headline, officials from the County are contacting
township officials in an effort to find seasonal dwellings to ensure that they
meet building code regulations if they become full-time residences.

Now, since my place was built in 1990, I'm sure it doesn't meet the current
Building Code. Of course, the builder got a permit to construct the place but I
don't remember any inspections being done (except for the septic system).

Does this mean that I can't build my addition and live here as a full time
resident? I understand that the addition needs to follow the new State Building
Code, but would I have to bring my entire camp up to Code? Or is all this an
effort to find places that are just not habitable (no water, no electricity, no
satitary facilities).

Are there any building inspectors, contractors or county/local officials out
there that can shed some light on this?

Thanks,

Marty

We just got home from our summer camping trip. What a time we had, but it was
very nice to be back home. I was thrilled to see the mountains when we got back.

The trees look terrible though, I hope that something can be done so that the
trees don't die. These darned worms.

I hope everyone is enjoying the warmth. We had a lot of storms while we were
gone, it's nice to see the sun.

I went into Galeton from my camp for the first time in a number of months and
was surprised at how well the place looks. Main Street has been done over and
landscaped and looks much improved over what it was (which was pretty rough
looking). Collins Park has also been done over and expanded and really looks
nice; the park and the libary compliment each other very well.

Kudos and hats off to those responsible for this fine job.

Hi everyone!

My name is Denise and I am a geography graduate student at the University of
Delaware. I'm really interested in your town -- so interested that I'm doing my
Master's thesis on it!

Why is Coudersport so interesting to me? Well, to be honest, you're a small
town that is really out in the middle of some big, beautiful country! I grew up
in Clearfield, which is just about due south of Potter County, and I have a deep
appreciation for small towns. I like to know how they operate, what the people
are like, what the community is like, and what people do for a living and for
fun (among a myriad of other things). For my research, in particular, I am
looking at the pathway of students after they graduate high school. Do they go
to college or do they stay in the area? I'll be conducting a survey of past
graduate classes to find that out.

I just wanted to say hello to everyone in this group. I will probably be
stopping through Coudersport sometime this summer, so you may even see me
walking around town, taking pictures, and talking to people. I joined this
group for two reasons. One, I was hoping that I would be able to make some
connections with the folks in this group so I would have some people to meet
when I come up to visit. And two, I was wondering if any of you would be
willing to share your stories, thoughts, or attitudes about Coudersport. What
do you think of your town? What is it like? How many grocery stores or stop
lights does it have? What do you do for work and play? Do you ever want to
just move away? As a Cleafieldian (is that even a word?), I couldn't WAIT to
get out of my small town, but now I sometimes long to move back to "the
country."

Thanks so much for reading and I look forward to hearing from you! Please share
with me whatever you feel like about your life in Coudersport -- good or bad!

Take care!
Denise
