For people interested in the International Contender Class. A Contender is 4.87 meters (16 feet) long. The helmsman uses a trapeze to balance the force of the wind. Sailing one well is challenging and tremendous fun. Recent technical innovations include carbon fibre masts and booms, Kevlar and Mylar in some sails.

Boats are distributed in 16 countries and 3 continents. Over 140 helms sailed the 2011 Worlds as well as in recent championships at Lake Garda, Italia and Medemblik, Netherlands and Travemünde, Germany

Bjarke B. Johnsen of Denmark won the 2011 Worlds at Portland Castle Sailing Club in Weymouth, United Kingdom. Graham Scott of U.K. was second and Søren Dulong Andreasen of Denmark was third. Junior Champion was Alexander Groelich of Germany and Ladies Champion was Jacquelein Rüfenacht of Switzerland. Veteran Champion (over 60) was Peter Dives of U.K.
