Re: [concord] another mozzie myth dispelled

Dwight, I wouldn't say they were fully dead. I harvested about
2/3rds of the crop -- all the ones whose tops were laying fully on
the ground. the bottom-most leaves were brown, but there's definite
greeness in the others. The other plants are still either somewhat or
fully upright so I let them be. They're all German Red Rocamboles --
hardnecks.

I am quite surprised to see the heads were as mature as they are --
they put up flower scapes not long ago and 2 weeks later, started
keeling right over. I was worried at first, but I dug one and it
seemed to be doing the right things. They just quickly matured after
the flowers went up (I cut the scapes before they opened, adding them
to dinner. I can't say I was impressed by the scapes, as "gourmet" as
they are supposed are!).

I realized as I pulled the heads today that next year we need to
plant a lot more garlic! 17 heads sounds like a lot, but we're 2
families using them, and while our kitchen will use the lion's share
of what we have, I can probably use 2-5 heads a month without
anyone's help. So I put in an order for my fall garlic tonight at 4x
what I planted last fall, thinking I would probably share the seed
garlic with others.

And STILL the mozzies love me...HEY! I'm being bitten as I type this.
Damnit! <squish> Yesssss.... got 'er!

It repels vampires pretty well, though. After all, you've never been bitten by a vampire when you had garlic around, right? Mike Wevrick...

I think you can deal with mosquitoes just the same way you deal with vampires; drive a toothpick through their little hearts!...
