Description
"But some say that they've heard
A whisper in the wind
Communities are on the move
Their way of living to improve
and festivals you find"
"The powerful in the land
Can't bring a change of heart
But history will be made
When the people play their part"
INVITATION
WORLD COMMUNITY ARTS DAY
Everybody is creative, in some way, however small the creative gesture is, it all adds up.
ARTS AS A CATALYST FOR SHARING AND CARING.
We will be celebrating along with everyone else on 17th Feb 2008.
Creating opportunity through the use of the arts as a catalyst for community regeneration through education, social caring and action, technology, enterprise, history, health and environment. This grassroots approach to community development came out of many poor communities worldwide. One of these pioneering communities was in Craigmillar, Scotland. Which started a festival in 1962. The aim of the discussion group is to collect similar projects worldwide, to show the importance of this model and how it has evolved and changed. The term Communiversity is taken from a Craigmillar Festival Society workshop of 1972, where it sought to combine 'local community talent and knowledge with universities, thus creating a communiversity'. Our aim has always been to create a learning vehicle to carry forward the 'Arts the Catalyst for caring and sharing, Education the tool' of such grassroot community groups to enable it to evolve and carry on.
We are a voluntary group, all money raised goes into Communiversity Press or other voluntary groups in Craigmillar.
