Hey there Forklift Fans!

As you may know, we are the DC area's largest thrift store for home improvement. Instead of donating toys or clothes to our thrift store, you can donate building materials and renovation leftovers like cabinets, doors, and lumber. Or, you can shop at prices that are 40%-80% below big-box stores. We also have partnered with other local businesses to bring you related products, including reconditioned appliances from Alco, beautiful reclaimed hardwoods from Treincarnation, and antiques & artifacts from Salvage Arts.

No, we don't sell forklifts! The name comes from our mission. Operated by the nonprofit Sustainable Community Initiatives, we aim to "lift up local communities" by reducing waste; creating green jobs; and making repairs more affordable for low-income folks, homeowners, small businesses, and nonprofit groups.

Over the past several years, Community Forklift has become a gathering place for folks in the DC metro region to share info about low-cost home improvement, green building, environmentally-friendly renovation, building material recycling and reuse, architectural salvage, and old home restoration. We maintain this Yahoo Group as a community forum where members can discuss any of the topics above.
