just in case his emails are not making it to the whole group (don't even ask why)......he wants all to know that he is indeed going to Hoover this evening.

you all have fun.  give us a report on the water level, white caps, sharks, Pteranodons or whatever else you encounter.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.             Mark Twain

Paddled today for about two hours on alum creek lake. The marina and galena
boat ramps are closed, had to put-in at the canoa/kayak launch site off of Lewis
center rd. Lake was calm and very low, maybe 5-6ft. below summer pool. Saw many
blue herons hunting/fishing, because the water is low? Had a good work out and
very peaceful. Next time probably try the north end of the
lake.....................

I was thinking of maybe getting out on Alum Creek Lake tomorrow around 3:45 at
the Howard Rd boat ramp just to see how far north I could make it by trying to
follow the old stream bed. The lake is down about 7.5' (as of 8:30 am) of a
planned 11' draw-down for boat ramp repairs. Anyone interested?

You may remember a few years ago the Army Corps put down 2 feet of stone over
the cemetery near the corner of Old State and Cheshire Rd. to cover up graves
the were not moved when the dam and lake were being built. The older records
were burned in a fire. When this was done the draw-down was only 10' and the
cemetery extended out further than that. The draw-down is scheduled to be
complete by November 15 and held at that level until Jan 15.

We did that on Sunday. GPS showed about a 1.5 miles before we hit the creek. You
can actually continue up the creep but we did not - the wind was very strong and
the paddle back to the car was a bit of work.

Advantage is that it would be pretty calm back in that area. Then if the wind
dies down we could head out onto Alum if we wish. But this is totally dependent
upon the water levels on Alum.

Subject: thule roof rack system for sale
denny_caka
Send Email Send Email

Pat got a new car for the new year to carry her new boat.

The Thule roof rack system we had on her Saab wagon is not compatible with her new car so it's up for sale.

It does NOT include any of the kayak carriers.  We are only selling the roof rack, the fairing plus a bike tray.

So, just exactly what IS for sale?

This Thule rack system is for use on vehicles with factory installed roof rails.  So assuming you have roof rails (that is the rails that run lengthwise on the roof of your vehicle) you can use this rack.  Each 'foot' has a super heavy duty vinyl strap that goes around your rail.  The strap cinches down and securely attaches the rack system to your existing rails.  Each foot has an integral hex tool to tighten down the vinyl strap.  This set up includes two cross bars.  Bike trays, kayak racks, ski racks etc then attach to the cross bars.  We have one bike tray that will be included.

Thule 450 Crossroad Foot Pack (sold as a set of four) new for around  $150+ new.

Our foot pack is about three years old and in very good condition.  Maybe a bit faded from the sun but functionally perfect.

We have two 50" inch square Thule cross bars.  These sell for around $70/pair.  They are black with end caps and are in good/fair cosmetic condition.  Functionally perfect.  Perfect width for the Saab wagon....probably too narrow for a big ass SUV but most likely fine for a CRV or RAV4 or Subaru, Kia, Hyundai etc

We also have one fork mount bike tray  --- not sure if its a Yakima or a Thule but it works fine with this roof rack.  It holds one bike (road or mountain) when you remove the front wheel.  Rear wheel is held on with a strap - front fork clamps down with a quick release.  Nothing fancy.  Good cosmetic condition.  Functionally perfect.

Also included is a Thule 32" wind fairing.  They sell for around $75 new.  Fairing mounts to the front cross bar.  Good cosmetic condition....comes with a wide selection of splattered bugs and such.  Functionally perfect.  Looks just like this: http://www.thule.com/en-US/US/Products/Base-Racks/LoadAccessories/870XT-Fairing-32-inch.  Looks very cool and cuts down on wind noise.

You can install either Thule or Yakima kayak carriers on this rack.  We had a pair of Thule Hull-A-Port Pro's mounted on the rack and carried two 15' foot kayaks.  We could also carry one bike in the tray between the two kayaks.  In lieu of the bike we also have hauled another small kayak (like a 9' Swifty) sandwiched between the two larger boats.  Involved some creative strapping but it can be done.

This Thule roof rack is very secure.  We have been known to drive in excess of the speed limit with kayaks on the roof.  No issues.  Other than the expected lousy gas mileage.

The entire set is yours for $150.  If you don't want the fairing - $100

Send me an email if you are interested.  You are welcome to come over and check it out.  Also gonna list it on Craigslist but will ask a bit more.  So this is something like a CAKA New Years Discount.

Denny

If anyone has any interest, I will have 2 kayaks at the swap meet - a LiquidLogic Coupe and and Ocean Kayak Yahoo.  The Coupe is a 2011 model only used a couple of times.  Its a whitewater crossover with a drop down skeg.  The Yahoo is a sit on top whitewater kayak thats in very good shape.

Thought I would share this with the group.  If you are looking for anything related to paddling be sure to check this out.  Lots of fun.  Lots of stuff for sale.  If it's too cold to paddle then plan a day trip down to the Queen City and check out the great deals on used paddling equipment.  Info comes courtesy of Captain Hank.

Buy or sell used kayaks, canoes and related equipment January 14th, 10 am - 1 pm at the annual Cincypaddlers Giant Indoor Swap Meet (co-sponsored by The Ohio River Way Paddlefest). Grab up hot deals now or turn your extra stuff into gold. Tons of boats and buyers, so take advantage of this rare opportunity.

It's FREE! (no charge to buyers or sellers). And, it's conveniently located in the heart of Cincinnati, close to exits of I-75 and I-74. Our host is Building Value (4040 Spring Grove Ave. ,45223). Enter the parking lot and proceed to the back of the building.

Building Value is a green nonprofit that recycles building materials (doors, sinks, vanities, etc.) and employs people with disabilities and workforce disadvantages in the process. Their store will be open for donated products or pick up a bargain from them. (Find out more and what they accept at BuildingValue.org.)

Michael -

Thanks for the info.

After emailing you, I thought I'd want to try it in the water. And that could be a while. So if you can sell it - by all means do so.

I am curious if it has a dry hatch and what the price is.

Thank you.
