Domku Arts Fair Cancelled

After much thought, I've decided to cancel the arts fair this year as I have not
been able to give it the attention it needs to be successful for all the
participants. It is also not possible to use Domku as the primary location
anymore as Saturday daytime business is simply too hectic to accommodate diners
and the arts fair at the same time. I'd like to try to have the fair in the
spring (possibly around Mothers Day) if a suitable alternative location can be
found. It's a great and fun annual event for Petworth so I will do what I can to
make sure it continues to be. Suggestions and assistance always appreciated.

Bryan,

Thanks for the explanation. But there is something that is not adding up for me.  Bascially, we are being told that a fixed door may have saved the life of one of our children.  If a working door was in place this suspect from Maryland with a gun looking to rob and terrorize may have never gain entry into the building, followed the family up stairs and fired the shot.  Therefore with better inspections and landlord compliance this child may not have been lost.   Makes sense, but here's was is bothering me.

Less than a block away in 1300 block of Columbia Rd. a police are sits with bright lights every night.  As well an All-Hands-On-Desk in operation. Yet, the suspect feels comfortable coming from Maryland to settup in the area to rob folk. If reports are correct this as been an on going problem. What is it that criminals from out of our area feel so comfortable setting up shop in PSA 302.

Columbia Heights and this area has some of the best community service nonprofits around, especially serving that area.   The door according to reports has been problematic for along time.  Yet, in the last 9 months or so in terms of housing legislation Council as considered or passed over $15M in tax abatements to bailout Ward 1 luxury condo projects, yet none of these nonprofits were able to get a grant to help fix a door?

But what really bothers me, this is almost a repeat scenario of when we lost another 9year in 2005. Almost the exact same script.  How does a community continue to loose 9 years old and except if we just had better landlords and more DCRA inspectors we would be alright.  It's like saying that if we used non-processed organic cheery's ice cream sundaes would be low in calories.

Maybe, I'm just not as good at math as I think, but given that we are about back to normal policing by press conference and email. Substation working home invasions on N St.. Politicians on camera blaming others yet taking no responsibility, no emergency declared, no one fired but teachers and daycare workers. Civic leaders in the community worried about their image in a column by a jack-legged Post writer. Just not adding up for me, maybe I need to use differential calculus. Bryan, please help, I confused as sh$t.

William,

Never a huffer and only puffed a few times in college.

It is tough (if not impossible) to have one DC agency fine another. Especially when their projects overlap. Historically DC public housing has been the worst, most degrading, and unsafe housing conditions imaginable... housing projects  have run down into deplorable conditions. This eventually led the courts to turn over the Housing Authority to federal receivership. Only after thousands of substandard units were torn down, and/or renovated the DC government has regained control of DCHA.

Most recently the DCHD projects mentioned in the news (apart from the stories about the diverted DPR money that have gone to contractors who are friends of the Mayor) have been glowing, bordering on sycophant, about the New Communities Initiative. A project designed to improve four neighborhoods in Washington, DC: Barry Farm (Ward 8), Lincoln Heights/Richardson Dwellings (Ward 7), Northwest One (Ward 6) and Park Morton (Ward 1). These new public housing projects are mixing public, subsidized, and affordable housing together in order to avoid the isolation of the city's poorest residents. Park Morton is slated to have 1/3 public housing, 1/3 workforce housing and 1/3 market rate housing.

DCHD still has major problems but today I would say that DCHD properties are probably in better shape than those in the poorer segments of the private sector housing, where unscrupulous landlords like NWJ have often mistreated their tenants and where some tenants have degraded their meager apartments.

Jason,

Not all of this is on the housing investigators, we have 44 residential housing inspectors plus the independent Office of the Tenant Advocate Last year the DCRA did take nearly 1,000 housing code cases to court but even when judges have found owners liable and levied fines, DCRA didn't try to collect the money. DCRA can place liens on properties with outstanding fines, but never does.

A priorty has to be made to see these violations all the way through to the end. Its not the stuff of press conferences, it is a long term grinding fight that must be fought. In serious cases the DC Governemtent must make immediate repairs at poorly maintained properties and impose civil and criminal penalties when landlords refuse to make repairs. Buildings with a history of extensive housing-code violations should be put under the supervision of an independent officer, or receiver, with authority to seek fines and penalties against the owners. (that goes for DCHD properties too)

As we have seen it is a public saftey issue.

Bryan

Brian, do you have any information on DC Government owned housing and the number of code violations in their public housing?  I seem to remember stories appearing every once in a while too about the unbelievably bad job the government does trying to provide housing for their clients.  How about linking to some articles on that while you are huffing and puffing about housing conditions.

You are right no one is talking about this, and it is outrageous. Why does it take a murder or a 5 alarm fire to get the the City government gets off its (considerable) duff and do something about these sub-human, slum-like conditions?

Lets remember our DC history... before the 5 alarm fire at the Deauville in Mount Pleasant last year the owners of the building (NWJ Properties) received  7,755 code violations.

7,755 code violations.

Anyone who is concerned with these issues should go back and read Debbie Cenziper of the Washington Post series Forced Out ... here are links to a Ward One part of the thread.

This has bothered me now for a few days since the terrible shooting of the young boy at 14th & Columbia Road,

If that bulding had so many violations: rats, trash, useless fire detectors, no locks, etc. - doesn't the District of Columbia have any investigative tools that could have looked into this and done something about it before this tragedy?  Don't we have Housing Authority, Social Services or some Agency with a system in place that could have done something about this building and more importantly the owner of the property.  Is this another situation where DC takes no responsibility and vigorously trys to blame something or someone else?  Why was this asshole landlord allowed to use, exploit and Lord knows what else - the tenants in his bui lding?   I know the District has entities that roam around DC street looking for abandoned, dilapidated properties - they can't see?  Or is all they care about is issuing fines with not a care in the world for the dilapidated buildings that people live in?   They can't look at the front of a b uilding and see that it might need investigating to make sure the building is up to code?  For Petes Sakes - this city cares more for Dogs than they do the people....Ok maybe this post should have beenin the Rants & Raves Section of CList.

Taxi scam, an advertising firm and a trip to El Salvador

Since federal agents raided the offices of Ted G. Loza, chief of staff to Council member Jim Graham (D-Ward 1), in September, there has been speculation about why authorities were seeking documents related to a small advertising firm and Fiesta DC, a nonprofit organization that puts on an annual Hispanic festival in Mount Pleasant.

Dear Neighbors & Friends,

This is a “recap” of Monday’s Northwest Columbia Heights Community Association meeting.

Donations to the family of Oscar Fuentes:

This has been a very sad week for us in Columbia Heights. Our meeting Monday was held at the same time as the vigil for Oscar Fuentes, the 9-year-old boy who was shot and killed in his own home Saturday. Although we were not at the vigil, our thoughts and our prayers were with the Fuentes family. It was announced that Councilmember Jim Graham's Office is collecting contributions for the family. If you haven’t done so already, you can mail checks made payable to "M. Fuentes" to:

Councilmember Jim Graham
1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Suite 105
Washington D.C. 20004

Upcoming NWCHCA Meetings & Events: Please mark your calendars!

The next NWCHCA Neighborhood Watch Block Captains Training will be Tuesday, December 8th from 7:30 to 9 PM at the MPD 3D Substation, 750 Park Rd NW

The Community Walkthrough with Mayor Fenty and Councilmember Graham that was postponed for rain on November 13 has been rescheduled for Wednesday, December 9th at 9:30 AM.

The next NWCHCA meeting will be a holiday gathering Monday, December 21st at St Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church, 1525 Newton St, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Please bring your best home-baked cookies for our cookie contest, and please bring a canned food item for donation. A talent show is being planned, so if you have an act, please contact us: nwchca@...

Our meeting’s format was three small-group discussions on public safety and quality-of-life in Columbia Heights. The discussions yielded many issues & needs. Here are some of the notes from the discussions:

Problem: Need to re-create the neighborhood cohesion that once existed here, through block parties, dinners, or by just being friendly to neighbors.

Solutions: Neighborhood Watch Block Captains can help build an active network of connected neighbors. Individual neighbors can sit on their porches more often and introduce themselves to their neighbors.

Problem: Known trouble spots:

§         The corner by the Columbia Heights Metro

§         14th & Oak/Meridian

§         14th Street between Irving & Florida

Solutions: Better lighting, stronger police response

Problem: Discouraging loiterers & drug dealers from hanging out: Compared 3 parks along 14th Street: Girard Park, the Triangle Park (Ogden/Oak) and the Columbia Heights Plaza

Solutions: Schedule neighborhood events, like barbecues, performances, or the Farmers Market to stake out these spaces for the neighborhood, and discourage them as "hang out spots." More police attention would help too.

Problem: Similar program to "Golden Triangle" for Columbia Heights had been talked about during the development, but never implemented

Solution: Have someone (a cop or a street guide) stationed permanently by the metro stop to help with the problem of people being harassed or panhandled while waiting for buses.

Problem: Need personal safety out-and-about in the neighborhood where we live, particularly at night.

Solution: Be cautious, but brave in the confrontation of local "thugs". Unless you want to live in fear, you have to demand that they not interfere with your personal property or the right for you to live in general peace.

Problem: "Orange Hat" patrols are ineffective in the long term (because they require too much concentrated effort) and are dangerous to the people conducting the patrols.

Solution: Safety in numbers - both walking around the neighborhood at night and taking collective action. Coordinated neighborhood presence outside of your home will deter the local thugs from hanging out (for as long as the presence remains).

Problem: Some apartment buildings’ management companies are more successful at controlling crime than others.

Solution: Put pressure on poor building management to take more effective action against crime within the buildings they own.

Problem: Neighbors sometimes have conflicts that can escalate, even when there is not an actual crime.

Solution: If the neighbors are doing something that is not a crime but is considered a nuisance, they should ask MPD to take a report so that a paper trail can be established.

Problem: Officers sometimes are reluctant to file a crime report

Solution: If you ask an officer to file a crime report and he refuses, you can report it to a supervisor. A supervisor can be reached by calling 911 again, or by contacting the Watch Commander (call the police station).

Other topics covered:

Neighborhood Watch Program and the roles and responsibilities of the block captains and how the program can increase the quality of life for the community.

Community Criminal Justice Accountability Initiative (CCJAI) and the role it plays in tracking papered cases in the court system as well as submitting Community Impact Statements to the court for consideration when sentencing a felon.

MPD: Types of reports police officers take when responding to a 911 call and how the 911 dispatchers prioritize emergency calls. If it seems that officers do not respond quickly, it is usually because they are responding to other calls with higher priority. (More information on this subject will be covered at NWCHCA’s Neighborhood Block Captains Training on December 9th)

Thank you for your interest in NWCHCA.

Columbia Heights still has far to go
By Petula DvorakFriday, November 20, 2009

The kids? They know better.

You can put in all the fancy coffee shops, shiny big-box stores and warm fuzzy community centers you want.

"Ain't nothin' gonna change," one teenage girl with tattoos swirling up the nape of her neck told me. "It's been like this my whole life. Nobody surprised by this. People always be gettin' shot."

We were in Columbia Heights, standing across the street from a spot where balloons, flickering candles and a zoo of stuffed animals signaled the death of a child. These displays amount to contemporary urban anthropology.

A few days earlier, 9-year-old Oscar Fuentes was killed there by a gunshot through the front door of his apartment.

Dear Market Friends,

What a great season! Seven months of fresh food, friendly farmers, music, free bike clinic, face painting, gorillas, and beautiful weather. This Saturday will be our last day: pick up your turkey, get veggies for the Big Dinner, stock up on meat and vegetables that will freeze well, snag some end-of-season bargains, give well wishes to your favorite vendors, enjoy some FREE hot cider and hot chocolate (bring your own mug or thermos!), get some last minute advice on winterizing your bike, and take a hard look around so you can submit comments and suggestions for an even better market in 2010.

We've got some sales this weekend!

  • Painted Hand Farm is slashing the price on goat and veal bones to $2/lb. Make your own stock! It's stupid easy and it makes all your winter soups richer and warmer and healthier. The goat bones are extra meaty and the veal stock makes a lighter, silkier broth than regular old big beef bones. Sandy Miller will be on hand to answer all your questions about stocking up on meat and making stock.
  • Panorama is bringing $2/lb bags of toasted bread cubes for stuffing.
  • Panorama Bakery is selling sliced deli loaves 3 for $15 - put them in the freezer!
  • Discounted cases of that warm weather sparkle locked inside Quaker Valley Orchard's tomato sauce and strawberry jam.

Noteworthy Event:
What do you think of a Columbia Heights Farmers' Market over at that fancy new fountain plaza thing?  Not to replace MtPFM, of course, different day. Join the Columbia Heights Community Marketplace Committee on Saturday from 10-12 (I know, right during market) at 3233 14th St NW for a Planning Workshop to give your input! Get more information from CHCommunityMarketplace@....

Happenings at market:

  • Kathryn Quanbeck and Friends (the tall lovely ladies) are back for one last round of music at market.
  • Farmers' Market Bike Clinic: Air, Oil, Advice, and More. My little brother Alex from San Francisco is volunteering this weekend!  Ask him about riding up hills. We think we know, but we don't.
  • Want to hear about the biggest farmers' market in the country? Come listen to my little sister Juliet go on and on about her new hometown, Madison, WI. Actually, don't listen to her, she's a devil, but pick her brain for GREAT ideas for Thanksgiving dinner.

Seasonal foods:

Tree and Leaf Farm: Baby carrots make a beautiful Thanksgiving table garnish! Roast the baby Bull's Blood beets and serve with Keswick Bovre on salad. Fingerling potatoes are tender and delicious roasted. Small and elegant cauliflower heads with delicate greens roast beautifully and were the star of last year's Thanksgiving dinner at my house when my sister roasted them with a single anchovy laid across the top. Tasty and tender broccoli and Brussels sprouts.Winter squash. Savoy cabbage, Blue Wonder cabbage, mixed kale, collards, mixed chard, golden frill mustard greens, red dandelion greens and escarole. Arugula, arugula/cress mix, salad greens, frisee. Italian parsley and rosemary. Haukeri tunips, Hinona Kabu turnips, daikon radishes. 2-fer sale on green Luobo, China Rose, Watermelon, blue Hildebrau, and Red Neck autumn/winter radishes. Mix and match with greens. Sale on hot peppers and sweet green peppers.

Truck Patch Farms: Cauliflower, broccoli, kohlrabi, Brussels sprouts on the stalk and loose, savoy and green cabbages, turnips, radishes, and beets with their greens. Arugula, kale, mesclun. Yukon Gold potatoes, white potatoes, and several colors of sweet potatoes. Stock up on butternut and acorn squash - they make handsome and reassuring mounds in a big basket in your pantry. Green tomatoes and a few red tomatoes from cold storage. Stock up on meat! All cuts of pastured pork and Black Angus grass fed beef. Pastured eggs.

Richfield Farm: Brussels sprouts, kohlrabi, turnips, rutabagas, beets, potatoes. Broccoli, green, orange, purple and white cauliflower, and Romesco. Savoy and green cabbage. Swiss chard, collards, kale, toscano kale and tat-soi. Acorn and butternut squash.

Groff's Content Farm: Family farm raises 100% grass-fed and -finished lamb and beef, pastured Berkshire pork, beautiful pastured eggs and chickens. Pet treats. Try the linguica - a smoked Portuguese sausage that I've used in gumbo AND Chinese stir fry, how versatile!

Painted Hand Farm: Naturally-browsed goat meat cuts: chops, roasts and whole heads for Goat Head Soup. Seriously. I promise to try it this winter. Humanely-raised "rose veal", meaning the young male calves who were destined for a miserable dark CAFO were re-routed to Sandy's pastures. German-Style Bratwurst links and pork-free sausages.

Keswick Creamery: Raw milk cheeses, blue cheese, feta, ricotta, quark and yogurt, and chocolate pudding.

Quaker Valley Farm: Apple butter. Honeycrisp Applesauce in Apple Strawberry, Apple Apricot, Spiced and No Sugar. Apple cider. Apples, including new this week: Pink Lady. Spaghetti squash and pumpkins. Sweet potatoes and onions. White Kennebec and red Pontiac potatoes are both great mashing potatoes. Tomato sauce, jam, honey, popping corn. Ask about case discounts on jam and tomato sauce to get you through the winter!

Reid Orchard: Pears and at least 20 varieties of apples - ask about apples that'll store well. Ciders in apple grape, cherry, and pear. Apple butter and sauce. Canned peaches with no sugar added.

Atwater Bread: Organic sourdough and yeasted breads: Peasant Wheat, Caraway Rye, Cranberry Pecan, Kalamata Olive, traditional San Francisco Sourdough, Ciabatta, Country White, Chili Cheddar, French Baguette, Spelt, Sunflower Flax, and more. Brownies, cookies, scones, muffins, and granola.

Panorama Bakery: SALE! Any 3 sliced deli loaves for $15! Multigrain, whole wheat with oats, sourdough, rye. Lightly toasted bread cubes $2/lb for stuffing! Plus baguettes, croissants, pain au chocolat, danishes, sticky buns, apple turnovers, mini ciabattas, hamburger buns, cheese rolls.

Cherry Glen Goat Cheese Company: Last week was their last week at Mt P for the season. They're at 14th and U this weekend, and Takoma Park Farmers' Market on Sundays all through the winter!

Please bring your own bags for shopping.

Weekend track maintenance on the Orange, Red, Blue and Yellow lines 11 Metrobus routes detoured for weekend activities

Track maintenance on the Orange, Red, Blue and Yellow lines this weekend (Nov. 20-22) will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track. Customers should add 20 to 30 minutes to their trips. Additionally, 11 Metrobus lines will be detoured as a result of weekend events in the Washington area. Customers using these Metrobus lines should add additional time for their travel.

Orange Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the East Falls Church and Ballston-MU Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes of travel time to their trips because Metro will replace crossties, the track support structures. Trains will share one track between these locations throughout the weekend from 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, to closing (midnight), on Sunday, Nov. 22.

Red Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time because Metro will replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks, and make tunnel repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations the entire weekend from 9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, Nov. 22.

Blue and Yellow Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Van Dorn Street and King Street Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will be trimming leaves and weeds along the rail tracks. Trains will share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, and Sunday, Nov. 22.

All Yellow and Blue Line trains will operate to the Huntington Metrorail stations during these times. Metro will operate a special Blue Line shuttle train between the Franconia-Springfield and King Street Metrorail stations. At King Street, customers will be able to catch a Blue or Yellow Line train to the Largo Town Center or Fort Totten Metrorail stations.

Metrorail customers who park at Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street Metrorail stations and wish to avoid the delays should consider parking at the Huntington Metrorail station.

Rerouting of Metrobus Routes F4 and Z8

From 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, Nov, 21, Metrobus routes F4 and Z8 will be rerouted due to the Silver Spring Thanksgiving parade that will close Fenton St., between Wayne Ave., and Colesville Rd.

Rerouting of Metrobus Routes 32, 34, 36, 52, 54, 64, 70 and V8

From 8:45 a.m. to 11 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 21, Metrobus routes 32, 34, 36, 52, 54, 64, 70 and V8 will be rerouted for the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walk-A-Thon that will close Independence Ave, NW between 7th and 14th St., NW.

Rerouting of Metrobus Routes 32, 36 and 38B

From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 21, Metrobus routes 32, 36 and 38B will be rerouted due to heavy crane lifting operations that will close I St., N.W., between 18th and 19th St., N.W.

Dear Phil & Linwood,

I am writing out of concern for the future of the DC Democratic Party as a result of the actions affiliated with the Denver Convention fundraising and lack of reporting that has come to light as a result of the OCF audit.

On multiple occasions you both announced that you had either already or were planning to file complaints with the FEC and US Attorney. In light of today's press in the Post and the Citypaper and given the direction this investigation is going with the intense response by the DC Republican Party, I am personally requesting that you both consider delaying your action to allow DCDSC members to hear your specific concerns with the hopes of outlining a plan of action to address your specific concerns without further public embarrassment to the DC Democratic Party and DC Democrats.

Please understand that I share your frustration over the situation that the DC Democratic Party has been placed in as a result of dysfunctional communication and a lack of transparency and accountability. However as the elected Party leadership it is time for us to begin the work of reuniting the state Democratic Party organization and working strategically as one body to address these issues.

After much reflection, I was reminded that while it is our job to do everything within our power to push for transparency and accountability within the party organization, we must do so with the goal of facilitating progress. If it is indeed our goal to move the party organization forward, as I know it is, we cannot allow our response to one individual or a small sect of individuals to be the sole motivation for our response to these matters.

Therefore I am requesting that you both, if possible, delay further action in filing any additional complaints, but come prepared to share your specific concerns with the full membership at the December 3rd meeting so that we might begin to work as a united body to address them directly.

In addition it is my intention, as I know it is the intention of others, to request that at the December 3rd business meeting the body be prepared to take action in three key areas;

1)     Finalizing the action steps and timeline for making every attempt to comply with the interim OCF report and drafting our response to OCF that outlines those steps and projected timeline for compliance.

2)     Come to agreement upon and adopt financial controls procedures (based upon recommendations from the finance committee and volunteer accountant).

3)     Adopt a resolution that will send a message to Democrats and others across this city and across this country that the DC Democratic Party is committed to transparency and operating legally and ethically.

To the entire committee, as party leaders we are going to have to pull up our sleeves and re-commit ourselves to doing the work to rebuild and rebrand. It is going to take hard work and our commitment to making some difficult decisions, but we owe it to Democrats in the District to show up and do the work.

I know there are a lot of ideas and proposals out there as to how we rebuild and rebrand, please commit yourself to showing up on the 3rd, and to every meeting after, to share your ideas and openly discuss what you want to see happen in this organization and what you need in order to recommit and become fully engaged.

I know this entire episode has been frustrating and has drained our moral and frozen progress. At the same time I know that this committee is made up of dedicated Democrats and public servants who want to see a strong, respected, and relevant Democratic Party in the District of Columbia .

Together WE can do it and we owe it to all those who have supported us, to get our house in order.

In the spirit of Unity

Daniel Wedderburn,

I demand that you retract your statement. I NEVER said that Chairman Gray "set up" the Denver account. I stated that I attended a meeting with the Chairman, Jack Evans and Anita Bonds before the account was set up. Chairman Gray along with others did nothing but offer his assistance for the Party. Chairman Gray had nothing to do with the setting up, maintenance or closing of the Denver account and this I will swear to in a court of law.

Fellow Democrats,

FACTS:

1.  The DSC Special Audit Committee recently on its own submitted the copy of Vince Gray's letter (now drawing media attention) to the Office of Campaign Finance (OCF).  OCF never requested any such letter but the Special Audit Committee saw to it that OCF was made aware of it.  (Vince's letter was written well over a year ago.)  Members of the DSC Special Audit Committee are Vince Orange, Anita Bonds, Don Dinan, David Meadows and Barrie Daneker.

2.  The DSC Chair stated on November 10, 2009 that Vince Gray and Jack Evans were responsible for establishing the Denver Convention 2008 Account.

3.  David Meadows on November 12, 2009 stated to DSC members at its monthly meeting that Vince Gray and Jack Evans "set up" the Denver Convention account.  There was a pronounced murmer among the audience.  Sitting right next to Meadows up front where the officers sit,  I leaned over to D. Meadows and said, "I cannot believe you said that."  He then denied saying it.

4.  From everything I have heard over the past year about the Denver Convention Account, as Treasurer and the official contact with OCF, I do not believe Vince Gray was involved in establishing or setting up the Denver Account.

Sincerely,

Dan Wedderburn

FCP snags Allegro for $77.5 million

Five bidders went after the 297-unit Allegro Apartments this morning when the property went to foreclosure auction, according to the folks at Alex Cooper Auctioneers. After bidding started at $60 million, Federal Capital Partners, a Georgetown real estate investor and developer, took the property for $77.5 million.

FCP was founded by two former managers of the real estate fund at The Carlyle Group, Esko Korhonen and Lacy Rice. The company has dabbled in office and retail properties but has hung its hat to this point on residential developments in Montgomery County and Prince George's County. The Allegro is one of the company's first residential projects in D.C. "We think it's a great project really and we're really very excited about it," said Stephen Walsh, FCP senior vice president of capital markets. Walsh said the company had no immediate plans to reposition the building. "Obviously it's renting up right now so there is no current plan," he said.

practiced properly, twists will affect the entire organism from deep in the
spine, through the major organs and further outward to the layers of skin.
coiling and in and out of various asanas squeezes and moves stagnant fluids in
the body and makes room for fresh fluids to come in. this action of compression
and release actually massages the viscera (guts) helping with the systematic
functioning of blood filtration (kidneys), respiration (diaphragm), digestion
(stomach) and elimination (intestines). energetically, this influences the third
chakra - manipura (fire element) of the solar plexus, low back and waist which
is the reservoir of one's prana. it is here where connection to one's esteem,
will, and "gut feeling" lives.

enjoy!

Jeff,

I understand your concerns, but I have already filed my request for a criminal investigation with the U.S. Attorney. Furthermore, I'm sure law enforcement agencies are following this matter.

This is a very serious matter, and I believe we are not moving toward resolution with all the continuing "katydiding." Perhaps you should implore the entire DSC to get serious about this.

In addition it is my intention, as I know it is the intention of others, to request that at the December 3rd business meeting the body be prepared to take action in three key areas;

In the spirit of Unity

and come buy your Thanksgiving goodies.

We will have some FREE HOT CIDER at the market table to warm you up if it is

bags prevent the apples from drying out). Ask Caitlin which are the best

Dear Friends, Much remains to be done, but I want to thank the Mayor and DDOT for their effective response to the request from the community and myself to free up Mt Pleasant street by taking the HALF OF THE JERSEY BARRIERS IN front of the old Deauville off the street. This opens up about 4 parking spaces.

The braces themselves will be removed soon. DCRA Dir Argo tells me that the abatement period for the owner to comply with the DCRA order to move the braces ends this week. If the owner does not act, then DCRA will itself remove the braces to the interior of the wall. The remaining Jersey barriers will be removed at that point.  Dir Argo says that will happen just after Thanksgiving. So it is, in her words, “imminent”.

The street has been obstructed for more than a year following the five alarm fire.

It is an important step in a series that we are taking to restore 3145 Mt Pleasant Street…and to restore it as a tenant owned building. We have been meeting. And we will be having an additional report on the progress shortly.
