Hi Everyone!

I just joined and uploaded an album with a few photos of my collages. Some of
them aren't done yet and i have a feeling it'll be awhile before I figure out
what to do with them... I seem to have hit a block. Argh...Anyway, the album is
entitled "cassandra's stuff" if you'd like to check it out.

I'm looking forward to interacting with you guys...

Really liked your painting and hope it gets bid up.Found the questions you
get asked most amusing, esp, the porn and one about is it a living room or
hall painting? You gave such diplomatic answers! Have you tried painting on
wood with acrylics? I prefer it to canvas panels and it ships better.Good
luck. Tricia

Joe,

I love the work.  The texture is wonderful and beautiful. Working in Mixed
media and fiber arts besides painting, I appreciate how all of you use objects
to creat fine detail and line in the pieces.

My son and I have started an online Artist's site.  If any you or anyone on the
site would like to join us, we are running a special right now to get fine art
work on line.   All sales thru site are commission free.  We have marketing
tools to get out the word to those who would be most interested as well as the
causal on line shopper.  By grouping, we can take advantage of an advertising
budget most individuals would not have access to.  We want to show off your
work and you are helping us by showing what we can do.
Doing an advertising push for holidays. Checkout Flashpoint Creativity, INC @
www,flashpointcreativity.com.
I will be adding my work in the next few days.

The work on the site is so good!  Anyone sending us work by the weekend (
November 22, 2009), I will give you an added bonus of Three(3) months free! Just
have them send their e-mail with this copied to the bottom. So, that would be a
Total of 9 months for the price of 3 to try us out.  You may quit at anytime.
You can put as few as 3 JPEGS on immediately and add up to a total of 25.
Eventually you will have access to change out work while owning site.
If you cannot join us at this time on an Artist's gallery page, we offer shows
and will be doing contest every month. There will be blogs and you can chat on
the social media page for ideas, techniques, questions or comments about what
you are up to.

I hope you  and some of your friends can join us.  Look forward to seeing more
of your work.  It's just so facinating.  I have bookmarked the site. Thanks
for sharing.

Cat

The Museum of Contemporary Art here in Denver had a great wall-sized collage
piece by Rex Ray. I also see that PBS has made a documentry about Ray, but
can't find any info on it--it premiered in the Bay Area market on Oct. 23rd but
there's no info about it on the PBS website. Anyway, so I bought a book of
Ray's work at the museum book store. In the intro he says that he made some 200
collages over a period of a couple of years, just cutting out stuff from
magazines and cutting shapes and pasting without really planning anything--then
later they were displayed at Gallery 16 in San Francisco. The collages, or many
of them, are reproduced in the book, but they look suspiciously like there is
more to them than simple cut and paste--some pieces that have text almost look
like palimpsest, like he took tissue and glued over the original piece. Some of
the papers look more like water color paper than magazine paper. There doesn't
seem to be any bubbling or wrinkling as often happens with magazine pages +
water-based glue, and some of the pieces show text printed backwards like a
mirror image, but since most magazine pages have text or image on both sides,
I'm wondering if he took the time to color copy pieces to get his effects. All
the pieces are on white ground. Unfortunately I missed a chance to hear Ray
speak here in Denver some months back, or I would have asked him these
questions, or would have tried. Sometimes people just don't want to discuss
technique, they want to talk ideas. I also would have asked him what paper he
used for the support, and what size the pages were--they were all the same
size--8 1/2 x 11? Bigger? Smaller? I do enjoy his work alot, evidently he's a
self-taught graphic artist but his work shows a lot of sophistication and good
control of materials and cutting implements. He doesn't appear to have a
website, so I'll just have to wait for another opportunity to pin him down!

Yes fort worth is a great place to be right now, the area will no doubt be at
the head of the line as far as economic recovery goes.
about my show opening at sears-peyton gallery in nyc... still not sure I an
going to make it up there for the opening. In fact they may not have a formal
opening reception if I don't go since it would be merely an 'artist reception'.
Still trying to figure out if it would be worth the expense of a plane ticket
and lodging in the current economic conditions.

landlord will only rent out the downstairs with the upstairs - the upstairs is
about 5000 square feet! It needs an overhaul but we are looking at it as a
possible space for doing all our projects and working with the restaurant space
down stairs. That would be cool. I think we can put a consortium of local people
together who can all work under the same umbrella where we can all see our
separate visions fulfilled using the same space.

Hi, all --

If you are in the area, please stop by my show, opening on Friday evening. Would
love to meet more collage enthusiasts! Details below...

Janice McDonald
Re-purposed: A Show of Collage

November 6 - 29, 2009

Opening Artists's Reception: Friday, November 6, 7-10pm

EDGE Gallery presents Re-purposed, an exhibition of new collage work by Janice
McDonald.

Janice McDonald's abstract collages are created from fragments of collected
paper and recycled imagery gathered from her daily life and wanderings. She is
intrigued with re-using the often-overlooked backgrounds, colors, textures,
shapes, and negative spaces from everyday printed materials. Her collage work is
inspired by concepts of time, balance, and growth. She considers her studio
"col-laboratory" as a space for ongoing compositional experimentation --
allowing serendipity, discovery and re-combination to merge in a compelling way
within the medium of collage.

Edge Gallery is located at 3658 Navajo Street, Denver, Colorado. Hours are
Fridays 7-10pm, Saturdays-Sundays 1-5pm, or by appointment.

Hey, Cecil! I just remembered your show is opening here on 11/19. I had asked
what time the opening is schedule for but you never answered. I looked up the
gallery and it's normal hours of operation are to 6PM. I'd love to go, so let me
know.

I mentioned this to a friend of mine Philippe Bertaud - a world class classical
guitarist who is a real powerhouse http://www.philippebertaud.com/
who, when I called him happened to be looking at a downtown location with a
friend of his - an Italian - who wants to open an Italian restaurant/bar. The
landlord will only rent out the downstairs with the upstairs - the upstairs is
about 5000 square feet! It needs an overhaul but we are looking at it as a
