Description
The official Yahoo! Group for friends, fans, and filkers following the flamboyant follies of FilkAeris, a unique and relentlessly extroverted anime and gaming filk artist known for performing live and without warning on the Northwestern US anime convention circuit.
That's the Cliff Notes version, of course.
So what's with the name? What's filking? And why cold canned ravioli? The answer is relatively simple.
In 2003, Arijan Clark performed in the karaoke contest at Sakuracon. Instead of singing the lyrics of the song (Baby Got Back), she sang her own FFVII-themed parody lyrics, or "filk" lyrics (Midgar Booty). The fan response floored her, and brought her to where she is today...creating her own Yahoo! Group.
The name? She was cosplaying Aeris at the time, and it stuck. The filking? It's a fandom term for song parody. And the cold canned ravioli? That's what she ate alone in her hotel room just after leaving the applauding karaoke room. The hotel staff wouldn't let her use the microwave to heat up her dinner that night. It's her favorite post-performance meal now, and her personal reminder to stay humble, because no matter how many people clap for you, in the end you're still eating cold canned ravioli...so you might as well enjoy that, too!
