Hi All,

On Monday,  we are continuing our stand (or sit) on the southwest corner of St. Roads 21 and 26 in Melrose.  Bring signs, pots and pans, music, poetry, candles or anything else which shows your non-violent response to our government's actions both at home and abroad.

I'm back in Tucson with my dad, but I hope all of the rest of you will be out on the corner on Monday.  I'll be there in spirit and in all the signs Hannah has generously agreed to store and bring on Monday.  The "Honk For Peace"  sign really gets a good response.

We are there from 5:00 - 6:00p.m.  Please try hard to be there by 5:00.  We can park either on the street or on the west side of the shed which is next to Chiappini's gas station.  No parking in the lot adjacent to where we stand.
Join us.  We need your presence, your energy, your voice.

Greetings All:

Our NEW SCHEDULE is from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, every 1st and 3rd Tuesday at
Archer Rd. and 34th St., every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at Univ. Av. and 13th St.

The tide has turned in our favor. Cindy Sheehan's moral authority in
galvanizing antiwar sentiments from all walks of life is testimonial to this
fact. The Bushites' criminal callousness in the handling of hurricane
Katrina before and after its landing has further opened the eyes of millions
of folks. Opinion poll after opinion poll have shown overwhelming majority
of the American people wanted troops out of Iraq NOW, yet Bushites and their
cohorts persist in carrying on with their immoral and illegal war.

Recent revelations on the Bushites' egregious disregard for the rule of law
manifested in, to name just a few, illegal spying, kidnapping, authorization
for torture, Abramoff scandal, etc. has only added insult to injury. Further
more, according to a report by Seymour Hersh, these depraved minds are
moving forward with a mad plan for a nuclear attack on Iran.

Also the Bush regime not only pays the bills for the Israeli war machine,
but also gives it the green light to intensify its war on the Palestinians
and Lebanese, rushes an emergency supply of fuel and precision-guided bombs
to enhance the Israeli killing and wrecking spree, while at the same time
blocks all international peace initiatives. And it is using the
Israeli-created humanitarian crisis as a dress rehearsal and a pretext for
attacks on Syria and Iran.

As the approval rating of the Bush regime plummets, its key figures are
stepping up their efforts in fear- and hate-mongering, pressuring Congress
to retroactively legalize torture, warrantless wiretapping and making
changes to War Crimes Act to retroactively protect regime elements from war
crimes prosecution.

With the passage of the Military Commissions Act of 2006, which permits
warrantless incarceration and torture of suspected terrorists, an American
police state is fast taking shape. As if the Bush regime has not usurped
sufficient dictatorial power, Frank Morales pointed out that "Public Law
109-364, or the "John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007" (H.R.5122),
which was signed by the commander in chief on October 17th, 2006, in a
private Oval Office ceremony, allows the President to declare a "public
emergency" and station troops anywhere in America and take control of
state-based National Guard units without the consent of the governor or
local authorities, in order to "suppress public disorder.""

The Bush regime's condemnation of North Korea stinks of cant and hypocrisy.
All that the North Korea wanted from the US is a peace/nonaggresion treaty,
instead the Bush regime unilaterally abrogated the Agreed Framework
agreement between the Clinton administration and North Korea, recklessly
threatens North Korea by calling it part of the Axis-of-evil, etc. Thus
forcing North Korea to accelerate its development of a nuclear deterrence
capability while maintaining its willingness to negotiate with the US and
making Korea peninsula a nuclear weapons free zone.

According to the October 11th Lancet Journal Report: Bush's illegal and
immoral invasion and occupation of Iraq has caused 655,000 excess Iraqi
deaths over and above the base line annual mortality due to 12 years of
sanctions. We are not even talking about the number of Iraqis injured,
maimed, become sick due to lack of medicine or health care provider, with
broken up families, forced to flee their homes and country, etc.

In this mid-term election the electorates have delivered a resounding
rejection of the Bush agenda. Although the Dems who took over the leadership
of both chambers of Congress have wasted no time to dampen expectations.
However, more favorable political space have been opened up to restore the
Bill of Rights, roll back the police state and militarism, dump the Military
Commissions Act, repeal the Patriot Act, end the illegal and immoral
occupations, bring the troops home to save Iraqi, Afghani and American lives
as well as the environment, etc.

Just as Bush used the phony excuse of "fighting terrorism" to invade and
occupy Iraq, he is using the same excuse to justify support for the invasion
of Somalia by Ethiopia, as well as the killing of a large number of Somali
civilians by the US military. Contrary to heeding the voice of the people to
end the occupation and bring the troops home now, the Bush regime decided on
a troop surge to escalate the killing, aiming at turning sections of Baghdad
into another Fallujah to clear the way for the passage of the hydrocarbon
privatization laws by their Iraqi puppets. Simultaneously, this reckless
regime is intensifying its disinformation campaign on Iran to brainwash the
American people while heightening the military threat of imminent attack
against Iran.

Here's another ongoing outrage; the Bush regime is responding to the scandal
over the neglect of wounded troops with scapegoat, retaliation and cover-up
while continuing in sending more troops as executioner as well as cannon
fodder to wars of aggression and occupation based on lies and motivated by
war-profiteering, control of hydrocarbon resources and geo-strategic
advantage. And not just the Bush regime and the Repubs but also many Dems
are justifying support for these wars in the name of "Support Our Troops".
I.e. "Support the Troops" is the reason why the troops have to be sent into
harms way to participate in wars of aggression and occupation. In other
words, the warmongers' twisted logic says if we don't send the troops into
harms way to participate in wars of aggression and occupation, then we are
not supporting our troops.

Join us tomorrow at 34th St. and Archer Rd. We are always in need of folks
to join us for any length of time between 4:00pm and 6:30pm. Bring your own
signs or use ours - we have lots of them.

Peace. Ku

Gainesville SDS, Students Against War, Veterans for Peace, Gators for a Sustainable Campus, PDA Florida, and various other student and community organizations are coming together on Monday, October 22nd under the banner "No War, No Warming" to demand that UF begin making concrete, transparent steps towards ensuring that our 1.2 billion dollars in endowment investments are not funding war profiteering and environmentally destructive corporations.

Socially Responsible Investing is the right thing for our University to do: it is ethical, it is workable, and it is profitable. We feel that SRI is the logical next step in UF's campaign to lead the way in building a more environmentally sustainable and peaceful world.

With this protest, we aim to take immediate action in our community…
…To end the war in Iraq and all future oil wars
…To halt the impending climate crisis
…To end the US addiction to oil and other fossil fuels
…To promote green jobs in a clean energy economy

We have not set a time for the protest yet.  What we are looking for are interested non-students who want to be involved in the organizational process for this event.  We want to take our protest off campus in a march to City Hall, where a Gainesville City Commission meeting will be in session.  We have yet to formulate a demand for our city commissioners, except that it will relate to the overall theme of the day (No War, No Warming).  On the table are demands that amount to a symbolic gesture against the war, such as through an official City of Gainesville request to the State of Florida for our local National Guard Unit to be brought home.  This is where we will need your input.  What issues related to this protest are important to you?  What can the city feasibly do to address these issues?  How should we go about this off campus march?  Feel free to respond to this email with your ideas.

If you would like to get involved in the weeks before this protest, there are multiple things you can do.  One is to get whatever progressive groups you may belong to to endorse the action, and to send out a notification over your list-serve or make some telephone calls on our behalf (it'd recommend doing this after we've come up with the essential details such as time, parking availability, etc).  Another is to attend future SDS meetings (no, you don't have to be a student), which are held every Monday at 6:30 in the Civic Media Center (1021 West University Ave).  Depending on the non-student response we get at our meeting next week, we'll consider having separate planning meetings for this action on a different date.  When we get closer to the actual date of the action, we'll definitely be having separate meetings to do things like make banners and signs and to hash out the final details.

One last notice: On Saturday, Oct 27th, Orlando SDS and United for Peace and Justice will be hosting a regional anti-war demonstration in Orlando, FL, coinciding with 9 other regional demonstrations across the country..  The organizers are expecting a turnout in the thousands.  Check out their website here: http://www.oct27.org/orlando

Gainesville SDS will be organizing a contingent to go to this protest..  Depending on the student and non-student demand, we will consider getting a bus for the trip.  Please, let us know if you're interested, and let's show the country what the South East thinks about the war..

PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRATS OF AMERICA - Mobilizing the Progressive Vote

Stopping the Iraq Occupation and the Attack on Iran

PDA works inside the Democratic Party and on Capitol Hill--and outside in grassroots movements for peace and social justice.

Thanks to our outside grassroots mobilizing, more lawmakers inside Congress are signing the Iraq Peace Pledge, telling President Bush that they'll only fund the U.S. military in Iraq for "the protection and safe redeployment of all our troops out of Iraq." 70 members of Congress signed the original letter in July; the number of signers is now 85 and growing.

With organizations from the National Organization for Women (NOW) to Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) recently sending out alerts to their base, the grassroots petition backing the Iraq Peace Pledge has now been signed by 50,000 people. If you haven't signed it yet, feel free to do so now.

Please forward this email to five friends. And tell your own Congressmember and Speaker Pelosi to back the Iraq Peace Pledge.

As neoconservatives in the White House threaten to widen the Iraq war disaster into a far bigger disaster by attacking Iran, PDA chapters across the country need to gear up for the National Peace Mobilization on October 27 in 11 cities: Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle and Jonesborough, TN.

PDA needs to have a visible presence at the Oct. 27 events, which are being organized by the United for Peace & Justice coalition. "Fall Out Against the War!" is the rallying cry. PDA needs to show our colors.

Please donate now to PDA--$25, $50, whatever you can afford--so we can produce more banners, buttons, sticker and 100,000 PDA flyers.

As Cheney/Bush and too many Democratic accomplices beat the war drums over Iran, PDA must be even more vocal this fall in demonstrating--as many Americans did last fall at the ballot box--that our country must turn from endless imperial war to diplomacy and a domestic agenda of universal healthcare, environmental protection and economic/social justice.

Yours in peace,

Tim Carpenter

Interfaith fast for an end to Iraq war

Religious leaders representing tens of millions of Americans have stood in the shadow of the U.S. Capitol calling religious communities of various traditions to a day of fasting and prayer to end the Iraq war.

"We must return to the ancient disciplines so that we will turn away from violence toward reverence," said Rabbi Arthur Waskow, director of the Shalom Center, Philadelphia, to reporters gathered in front of the United Methodist Church office building on Maryland Avenue.

Represented at the news conference were leaders of Muslim, Jewish, Roman Catholic, Unitarian, and Baptist traditions. The Rev. Dr. Shanta Premawardhana, associate general secretary for interfaith relations at the National Council of Churches USA (NCC), and himself a Baptist, organized the news event.

Ancient practices were used at the news conference in the call to the nation. The ram's horn, or Jewish shofar, was sounded to "wake up" a nation. Ashes were placed on the leaders' foreheads as signs of repentance. A bell was tolled to call America's people of faith to join together on October 8 to fast from dawn to sunset, breaking the fast with their Muslim sisters and brothers.

"When you are fasting for Ramadan, you are enhancing your sense of compassion," said Dr. Sayeed Syeed from the Islamic Society of North America. "We will be asking mosques to open their doors to people of other faiths around the world on October 8 for prayer and dialogue."

Dr. Syeed said the Islamic Center in nearby Sterling, Va., will open its doors to interfaith neighbours Oct. 8 to break the Ramadan fast together. Local religious groups are registering events at www.interfaithfast.org, a website managed by the Fellowship of Reconciliation.

"From beginning to end the biblical revelation is a revelation of peace," said the Rev. Stan Hastey from the Alliance of Baptists and an officer of the NCC's Governing Board.

Hastey said the NCC has opposed the war since the beginning and recommended the "withdrawal of troops in an orderly way." The Baptist leader also called the war "unjust and seemingly unending."

"Our nation is engaged in a horrendous war, one destructive of civilizations and divisive of communities. We have a responsibility to end our violence and to make concrete our compassion for the people of Iraq," said Sister Marge Clark, BVM, a member of Pax Christi USA.

"May our prayer and fasting bring us to live our responsibility for the precarious world which we have shaped," said Sister Clark, who is also a member of NETWORK, the women religious-led Roman Catholic Social Justice group.

In addition to events in localities members of the internet site Facebook are organizing virtual communities to observe the day of fasting and prayer. One of the organizers is Alex Winnette from the Unitarian Universalist Association.

"Young people are unfairly and negatively stereotyped. We believe the opposite is true. We are connecting to a global effort," said Winnette of the Facebook plans. "We will take the lessons of our ancestors as inspiration (in this fast)."

Congregations may find material about fasting and other bulletin inserts at www.interfaithfast.org as well as an organizing tool kit to hold an event. A list of sponsoring organizations and individuals endorsing the day of fast is also at that website

---------- Forwarded Message ----------
Hello folks!
Laurie Resiman, local single mom extrordinare, has taken 5 more kids into her home recently for a family that is having a tough time right now. She needs help. The kids were dropped off at her house by DCF two nights ago at 7 pm with no other clothes, food, diapers, car seats, or formula, and she needs our back-up at this time. Right now they need:
  • Clothing for 5 children, ages: 11 (girl), 5 (boy), 4 (girl), 2 (boy), 11 months (girl). (Please go through before giving, especially to the older kids. No stains, holes, etc. I know that sometimes we get a little slack about that stuff when trading hand-me-downs back and forth to each other, but these kids' standards might be higher than some of ours :))
  • Underwear for all of the same ages.
  • Diapers for an 11 month old.
  • Pull-ups for a 2 yo.
  • wipes
  • Futon or mattress (DCF says you have to have individual beds for each kid).
  • FOOD!
  • *Anyone willing to take on a night per week cooked dinner duty, or even one or two nights dinner duty should call Neil: 338-1140. He is arranging a prepared meal calendar. Keep in mind that one of the kids is lactose intolerant, and that Laurie and Capi, her son, are vegan. Also keep in mind that these kids have been raised pretty mainstream, and that any food provided probably should be food they will like and eat.
  • *Cereal or other breakfast foods would be great. The kids get breakfast at their schools, but for breakfast for weekends and snacks on the way to school would be appreciated.
  • Childcare: want to take 5-6 awesome kids out for an adventure? Ideas include parks, O2B Kids, soccer games at UF, Women’s Basketball games at UF, sprinkler parties in your yard, activities around town, etc. All of these ideas are free (aside from O2B Kids) and are fun!
  • Laundry detergent.
  • Bath soap, shampoo.
  • Hair stuffs: hair-ties, combs, barrettes, etc.
  • A high chair
  • Pack and play
  • Booster seat
  • Stroller (double and single)
Any items for Laurie can be dropped off at her house or Amber and Neil’s house.

Thanks community. I know that I can put a call out there and have you all step up. You all rock!

Questions? Call Laurie, 246-8993, or Amber, 219-5723.
Keep in mind that Laurie is being very busy right now, and may not call you back right away. Also keep in mind that she has a cell phone only, and that minutes are not free until after 9 pm for her. The last thing she needs right now is a crazy phone bill.

Love, yer pal, amber rae kelly

Dear MIRIAM,

While serving in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 1980s, I remember a young, gutsy Congressman who criticized the Reagan administration for ignoring the effects of greenhouse gases. That member of Congress was Al Gore, and today his perseverance has been recognized across the globe.

When Al and I served together in the House, he was a humanitarian before he was a politician. He was a tireless advocate for the environment and an educator. And now Al Gore is the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. It was announced hours ago in Norway that he shares the award with the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Al gave speech after speech on the climate crisis long before it was a trendy topic. When you think of an American with persistence - who has never lost sight of pursuing what's right - think of our fellow Democrat Al Gore. Join me in congratulating him on well-deserved success.

Click here to congratulate Al Gore on his Nobel Peace Prize. Sign the DSCC's card to Al today.

This is a proud day for all of us. An American citizen was given the highest honor for an issue of the greatest importance. Al Gore has never stopped working toward a solution for global warming, and now the world recognizes him for his tenacity and his activism.

Since our days in Congress, I have called Al Gore a principled fighter for the American people.  He was a leader then and a Nobel Prize winner now.

We all say congratulations, Al. We couldn't be prouder.

Sincerely,

Sen. Chuck Schumer

Care2 Action Alert
Bush vs. The Kids

Hi Miriam,

If you're like most Americans, you you feel that our health care system is broken. It doesn't serve every child,
regardless of their family's income level.

But President Bush just vetoed a bill that would fix this
problem - denying 10 million kids the health care they need
and deserve!

Stand firm for the health of America's future >>

More Republicans are reconsidering their vote on CHIP and the efforts to override the President's veto are gaining momentum. We need to keep up the pressure and fight to even the score for kids.

Demand Republicans join the rest of Congress in an emergency override of the President's veto >>

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of millions of young Americans.

Please share this as widely as possible!

Dear Miriam,

Oct 27 Logo -- Fall Out Against the WarOn this day 5 years ago, the U.S. Senate voted to give George W. Bush the authorization to go to war in Iraq. The president was, of course, pleased with this vote and said, "America speaks with one voice."

Today, an amazing and powerful story is unfolding in this country. We've all known for some time that most people want the war and occupation in Iraq to end. Now, for the first time, people from all walks of life will have an opportunity to be counted as part of a national, public protest without having to travel to Washington, DC, or New York City. People are responding, looking forward to "speak[ing] with one voice" to demand an end to this outrageous war.

Momentum is building for the 11 regional demonstrations that will be held on Saturday, October 27th. At the same time, there is still a lot of work to do. We need to make sure people throughout the country know they are welcome, and that there is most likely an activity close enough for them to attend. We need your help to do this.

  • Be sure to get up-to-date information about what's happening in your region: Check the October 27th website at www.oct27.org. And join the hundreds who have already registered to become part of the Oct 27th online community, where you can post ride and housing offers/requests, participate in forums, plug into local organizing, watch and share Oct 27th videos, and download flyers, web buttons and more.
  • Friday, October 19th, is the second of the monthly Iraq Moratorium Days. We are organizing a national day of outreach for the regional mobilizations on that day and urge you to join us. Download the leaflet for your region at www.oct27.org, make copies, and go out into public places next Friday to help get the word out.
  • Please share the highlights about each regional demonstration below with your friends and family across the country and encourage them to attend an action in their region! (Specifics about each event can be found at www.oct27.org.)

And take a moment right now to make the largest donation you can to help ensure the success of the October 27th national day of action against the war. Your financial support is greatly needed; if you can't travel to one of the regional mobilizations, you can still contribute in a concrete way by supporting the mobilization in your area financially. Remember, no donation is neither too large, nor too small!

OVERVIEW OF OCTOBER 27th REGIONAL ACTIONS

Endorsed by 95 organizations throughout New England, including the AFL-CIO state federations in Vermont and Connecticut, the demonstration will feature noted historian Howard Zinn, John Olsen (President, Connecticut AFL-CIO), Son of Nun (political hip-hop), David Rovics (topical folk) and representatives from veterans and military families organizations.

More than 130 groups and three members of Congress are already endorsing the midwest action. Peace trains and buses are coming from Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, and at least 30 African-American churches on Chicago's South Side are bringing busloads of people to the march and rally.

Jonesborough is home to Aerojet Ordnance Tennessee, one of the largest producers of Depleted Uranium (DU) weapons. That fact, and its central location, led regional organizers to decide this was an ideal location for an October 27th demonstration in the southeast. The day will begin with a rally at the Courthouse steps where the mayor of Jonesborough will welcome the peacemakers.

Following a march to the Federal Building, participants will be asked to be part of a die-in to represent the more than 1 million Iraqis and almost 4,000 US servicepeople killed in the war.

After a rally in Washington Square, the march will proceed through the French Quarter. People from Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana are joining this event. In addition to calling for an end to the war in Iraq, this march and rally will address the racial injustice on the Gulf Coast, in New Orleans and Jena, Louisiana.

The labor movement, college and high school students, and community groups from around New York State and northern New Jersey are mobilizing for a massive march and rally to end the war. The march will end at a Peace and Justice Fair, where there will be opportunities for people to find out how they can become more involved in the ongoing work of many organizations.

Endorsements are pouring in, and people are coming from South Carolina, Georgia, parts of Alabama, and from all over Florida. Since national marches are usually so far away and such a major trip for people in Florida, folks are responding with a lot of excitement to this call to Orlando.

A caravan led by Iraq Veterans Against the War will make its way from Arlington Cemetery to Philadelphia, with stops in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Delaware. At each stop, a "coffin," bearing the count of U.S. military deaths from that state, and an estimate of the Iraqi casualties from a particular province, will be loaded on a vehicle to join the caravan. In Camden, NJ, participants in a morning rally will march across the Ben Franklin Bridge to Philadelphia, and on to Independence Mall. In Philadelphia, a Human Chain for Peace will extend 36 blocks, followed by a march to the rally at Independence Mall.

People from Idaho, Colorado, Montana, and around Utah will come together in a major march and rally in Salt Lake City. An Iraq War veteran will give an opening address before the march. The event culminates at Washington Square, where nationally recognized speakers will address the gathering. The Mayor of Salt Lake City, Rocky Anderson, is supporting this effort.

Several feeder marches from various parts of the city will join people from throughout northern California at the Civic Center for a pre-march rally. The main march will proceed to Dolores Park, where there will be another rally and a Peace and Justice Convergence. The convergence will feature activities designed to help educate people about a number of critical issues and bring them into greater involvement. A massive number of groups in the Bay Area and around the region have endorsed the demonstration and more are expected.

Throughout Washington and Oregon, organizing is underway to bring people to Seattle. People will gather in Judkins Park for a rally and then march to Occidental Park. The march is planned to go through communities in Seattle so the antiwar message gets out far and wide.

   Dear friends, family,
Not having written this at the end of Sept when this movie opened should in no way be interpreted as a lack of enthusiasm. I've just been very busy at work, etc. Go see the movie
ACROSS THE UNIVERSE!  It is fantastic!! I've been to see it twice already (first on Sept 28, opening night). And am going for the 3rd time this evening! And today I bought the soundtrack. Ignore the reviews you may have read. They don't know what they are talking about. It's fabulous aka FAB!
The actors sing The Beatles songs that make the basis of the story. They have terrific voices & their versions sent my regard for John, Paul & George as song writers even higher, if that's possible. I will never again hear these 31 songs again the same way as they are now tied to this Love story. The black gospel choir version of Let It Be will blow you away. As will cameos by Bono & Joe Cocker. It is set during Vietnam with war protests, civil rights, Dr King, etc. So it doesn't seem too far removed from today's world. Plus, be alert to subtle references to Beatles songs that aren't used but are referred to. Searching for those is reason enough for a return visit.
So you may be thinking: yeah, yeah, yeah, this is just Miriam the Beatlesmanic talking. I don't think so. Others have agreed with me. Go see it & let me know what you think. It's been held over for a third week in Gainesville. Today's G-ville Sun says it has found it's audience: teenage girls. Is that deja vu or what!? That was me once, at 12, 13, 14 falling in love with my boys. Now a whole new group of teens are finding them, in a different way.
See you across the universe! And remember "All You Need is Love"   Miriam

Howdy,
Here's an update on the Peace Ribbon Project.
  1.  This week it will be displayed at Adelphia University, Long Island, New York.  You can contact Loretta at codepinkli@... for details.
  2.  The Ribbon will be displayed at the Vets for Peace Solstice Concert at the Unitarian U Church 12/22 in Gainesville, Florida.
  3.  I conducted a panelmaking workshop this weekend in Brooksville, FL at the Florida Statewide Unitarian Women's Peace Retreat and about 14 women participated, making 8 beautiful panels.   The women at this retreat were very receptive to CodePINK, absolutely awesome experience for me.
  4.  You can see, post photos of the Peace Ribbon at:  www.codepink4peace.org/article.php?list=type&type=17
  5.  Arlington East has expressed interest in having the Peace Ribbon displayed with their display; The Arlington East (crosses) is also a traveling exhibit and I understand it is coming to Pittsburgh, PA soon. ??If the CodePINK Pittsburgh Chapter is interested in getting involved in the Peace Ribbon Project when Arlington East has its display, please contact me.

If your CodePINK group would like to display the Peace Ribbon Project, we will ship it to you free of charge; ship you Peace Ribbon flyers, all the rope, pins and other items you need to display the Ribbon.  Your group is responsible for shipping the Ribbon back to me (costs about $45 to mail).  If you would like more information on the Peace Ribbon, go to:
or please contact me: jacquebetz@... or call me at 352-468-2101

The Peace Ribbon, a CodePINK Project, began March 19, 2005 in Fayetteville, NC demonstration.  The Peace Ribbon has been displayed in New Haven, CT, New York City, Upstate New York, Washington DC, Ashland, Oregon, Vancouver, BC, Atlanta, Ga, San Francisco, Honolulu, Maui, Charlotte, Las Cruces, NM, Camp Casey, Gainesville, Florida, Long Island, New York, Memphis, Tennessee --
Some panels were taken to the Jordan Peace Talks and given to Iraqi Women for Peace.
I would like to display the Peace Ribbon in the Pacific Northwest next summer, travelling with it.  If your CodePINK chapter is interested, please contact me.
I hope you will get involved in the Peace Ribbon Project.  It is very creative, for all ages, true grassroots, very moving.  About half the panels are of dead U.S. soldiers and about half are of dead Iraqi civilians mostly women and children.  Currently, I am focusing on completely a panel for each woman U.S. soldier killed and we are almost half way there.  If you can help, that would be great.  Contact me if you would like a name and biography  If you have any questions, email or call me.

Hi Orlando CodePINK, Lydia and CodePINKgainesville,
Jacque, up here in Gainesville.  I received $228 worth of CodePINK gear a week ago; mostly black long and short sleeved tees with CodePINK For Peace on them; I have about a half dozen pink xl girlie tees; about 10 buttons Pro Peace Pro Soldier, about a dozen bumperstickers and about 8 Bush Blows bubbles left; I also have been selling pink bandannas for the last two years beginning when I displayed the Peace Ribbon in the dust at Camp Casey in Texas; have reorded a couple of times and have sold/given them away in Fayetteville NC demo, etc....and I have about 50 or so of those still on hand.  All of this has been paid for out of my own pocket and the money has been used for duplicating CodePINK flyers, esp. the local bookmarks we handout and put in local bookstores; also the Join CodePINk flyer I have about 200 of those left; I also duplicate the 1/4 Peace Ribbon Project flyer.  I also pay for materials for the Peace Ribbon and each time I ship it, it costs me about $45 -- so, I've been keeping the local copepink chapter books for about 4 years now and, not including any travel or hotel costs, I'm only about $500 in the red...that's really not bad for 4 years.  I think the opportunity to purchase the CodePINk gear at cost plus shipping and sell it at the website retail price has really helped keep the CP kitty going.
There are some events coming up in Gainesville as well as a Peace Ribbon panelmaking workshop I conducted this past weekend in Brooksville where I had a table and that's the main reason I had placed the order.  Of course selling the gear and ordering more is always a wonderful feeling!!  There's a local feminist bookstore that I front her the tees and then when she sells them she calls me to come by and replace it or try to get the item in a certain size.  That avenue has worked well.  I also give away tees ... a weakness in me ... and, giving away one tee means you have to sell two to break even!  Ah, ...
About selling the tees, buttons, bumperstickers, is if we put all of our stuff together, how could we ever manage to know who paid what for what?  I have my own vendor table but then there's always the problem with the donation jar...someone will invariably walk up, take a $15 teeshirt and drop a twenty in the donation jar; so, would the pink chapter that actually paid for the tee just be out the cost of the tee or how would you handle that?  The sizes, the colors.  When I displayed the Peace Ribbon in NYC I asked the New York women if I could put my pink bandannas at their booth and I had six hoodies also to sell; they said no and wouldn't even put the CodePINK Peace Ribbon Project flyer at their booth.  They sold all their tees out and I was a little miffed looking at their empty table but my gear was now a mile away in a parking garage.  Then, because the Peace Ribbon was displayed, several people came up to the NY booth and dropped twenties into the donation jar commenting how beautiful and moving the Peace Ribbon was.  I did not see one cent of that money and that trip cost me about a thousand dollars.  So, it can get weird and I won't feel any way bad if the Ribbon is or is not displayed, if I sell or don't sell one button or bumpersticker or tee.  I would like everything to be very clear ahead of time though so there's no weird vibes.
I suggest selling pink lemonade at the booth for sure.  I always make money on selling that.  That only costs a few cents a pink cup and folks can donate a gallon of lemonate from Publix and put some cranbery juice in it to turn it pink.  $2.29 a gallon.  I have a 2.5 gallon thermos dispenser and you can get pink cups at Michael's.  I have about 50 cups on hand.  That I think we could just split between the CP Chapters that work, donate.  Maybe bring a cooler with ice to keep the lemonade cold; also the volunteers will get thirsty and pink lemonade is a swell refreshment for volunteers.
I have a lot of big banners CodePINK Florida  CodePINK Women for Peace  a bunch of banners; some big, lots of pink ones.  Maybe we could all bring pink slips -- go to the Goodwill and dye them pink with rit dye -- they really come to life - and oh so cheap -- then you can write on them, hang them from lamp posts, hang them from the booth, wear them, fling them, and so forth...
I have about 500 pink business cards left that just say CodePINk Women for Peace and the web address and then it says Join One of Our Florida Chapters but only lists gainesville, orlando, tampa bay and tally yahoo group addresses.  Still, they could be handed out; given to folks who would like to distribute them in any of those places.  I leave the cards in the business card racks at local places like Bageland, Wild Iris Books, Book Lover's Café -- along with my bookmarks.
I have plenty of pink cloth for table cloths.  One dazzling shiny one.
Speaking of cloth, I could bring the Peace Ribbon Project as it should be back from Long Island by then.  Of course displaying the Ribbon would require that rope be tied to trees or lampposts or something and it is quite long but it is a very dramatic thing.  You can see photos of the Peace Ribbon at www.codepink4peace.org/article.php?list=type&type=17
Someone would need to find out if anything could be tied to trees, lamposts, fencing and get the preliminaries of the possibility of displaying the Peace Ribbon.  If it becomes a possibility, I will drive down ahead of time and scope it out.  It was displayed in Charlotte NC along with the Arlington East crosses a couple of weeks ago; I will be displaying it at the Vets for Peace Winter Solstice Dec 22 in Gainesville.
I don't know anything about Lake Eola Park or the rules or problems.  I went to the Oct27.org website and there hasn't been any updates since Oct 7; I couldn't find route information, parade times, speakers, or anything.  Although I was over at Scott Camil's house Sunday for dinner and he is a VFP, who did the Winter Soldier movie -- threw his medals away from Vietnam; well, we are good friends and he said he was asked to speak at Oct27.  So, I assume there are other speakers but I wonder where the stage will be and all of those crazy details.
I have to say I am disappointed at the lack of information at the oct27 website.
Additionally, I think that all of the CodePINK women that attend this event should meet for dinner or drinks somewhere afterward; preferably within walking distance and if possible someone from Orlando could just pick a place and reserve, say, 15 seats, so we can meet afterward and shares our thoughts.  When will the rally be over, anyway?  Where do we walk to and from?  Where will the booths we set up?  I have a little table; I also have a "patriotic" red, white and blue canopy, 10x12 which I have hung lots of pink slips and banners and so forth from.
Realistically, how many do you anticipate attending this event?  My wild guess at this point is 500.  What do you think?  I also think the oct27orlando website desperately needs updated with an agenda, list of speakers, parade route, enticing details. Hope someone down in Orlando can help with that.  Maybe I didn't click around enough... ?

  • More Stories from the Code Pink Panty Raid
  • by Kristinn Taylor, GOE/Free Republic
  • Okay, it wasnt really a panty raid, but we did get the pinkos panties in a bunch. Besides, I like the headline. What the D.C. Chapter did do was hold a stealth freep of Code Pink at their Washington, D.C. headquarters Saturday afternoon. The part about the bogus police, fire and BOLO calls is true.
  • Six D.C. Chapter members, a member of Gathering of Eagles, Iraq war vet Phil Kiver and two of his friends went to the so-called Code Pink House at 712 5th St., NE (attn. Keith Olbermann, dont get your panties in a bunch: Code Pink publishes this address all over their website) to call for their eviction over zoning violations. Specifically Code Pink is running a corporate lobbying office in a zoned residential neighborhood, operating a boarding house for transients and operating a kitchen. The house they are renting is zoned for single family dwelling. It sits right in the middle of a block of residences.
  • We arrived at 2 p.m. carrying copies of a zoning complaint that had been filed back in May with the D.C. government to give to the Pinkos neighbors. It appears the D.C. government has not taked action on the complaint.
  • As we were unloading our freep stuff from one of our cars up the road from the Pinkos office, a woman (not wearing pink, BTW) asked if we were there to protest Code Pink. When I told her, Yes, she immediately got on her cell phone and walked around the corner at 5th and H St. A couple minutes later she ran sprinting past me and hauled her ample behind down 5th St. to the Code Pink office where where she turned and raced up the stairs in to the front door.
  • About five minutes later, the first of many police officers to be called to check us out this afternoon arrived. I informed the officer, who was driving an unmarked car, that our intentions were to have a peaceful, lawful demonstration for a few hours. I explained that we were there to call attention to the neighbors of the failure of the D.C. government to act on the zoning complaint, as well as protest Code Pink in general.
  • The officer was satisfied that we were acting within the law and left.
  • The first of several neighbors came out to talk with us and shared her opposition to Code Pink roosting in her neighborhood. She said they are out in the street at all hours of the night, that they bring their buses down the street and park them, that vans with signs that say, Our Troops Must Die are parked on the street where her son, a three-tour Iraq vet home on emergency leave can see them.
  • She gladly took several copies of the zoning complaint to share with her neighbors.
  • The Pinko with the ample behind came back out of the Pinko office and walked back up to H St. She told us we should go to Iraq, which drew catcalls from the veterans and parent of a Marine currently in Iraq among us.
  • A few minutes later we received our second visit from the D.C. Police. This time it was a regular police vehicle. I spoke with this officer with the same result: we were acting within the law and he left.
  • A few minutes later we received our third visit. This time from a D.C. Police officer on bicycle patrol. I spoke with him as I had spoken with the previous officers.
  • One of the Pinkos came to the front door and asked the officer to come speak with her. She told him that she was basically alone in the office. We couldnt clearly hear the rest of what she said, but it sounded like she was bothered by the presence of the protesters on the sidewalk.
  • While the officer was inside talking to her, several fire trucks came down 5th St. and stopped just past us. We didnt smell any smoke (beyond the cigars and cigarettes we were smoking) and didnt see any sign of a fire.
  • The police officer came back out of the Pinko office and told us that were acting within the law. When we told him this was the third time we had been checked out he told us that the police had to respond everytime a call is made, which we understood. While the officer was inside, we were joined outside by a couple more police officers on bicycle patrol. These two officers stayed watching over us until we were done after the first bicycle patrol officer departed.
  • The Battalion Chief for the fire department came over to talk with us about the call he was responding to. He said that they had received a call about the smell of burning paper in the neighborhood, but there was no fire to be found. He lamented that large numbers of firemen were having to check out this bogus report.
  • All this happened within the first hour of us being there. In the meantime we were talking to more neighbors about Code Pinks presence in the neighborhood. Some didnt care, but many of them did. One even brought us bottled water to thank us for doing what we were doing. He told us how the Pinkos improperly stored trash in their backyard was drawing rodents. Another neighbor walked up to us with a large axe in his hand and demanded to see our permit. I told him we didnt have one. He went over carrying his axe to complain to the police about us but to no avail. We didnt need a permit for what we were doing.
  • We spied one of the Pinkos up the block returning from a protest dressed in costume. When she saw us she turned around and went back up the block, presumably to use the alley entrance to the office.
  • The Pinkos did not want to dialogue with us today, like they usually do. Instead they hid inside their office and peeked out from behind the window blinds most of the time we were there.
  • We ended the freep after two hours and bid au revoir to the two bicycle patrol officers. A funny thing happened to Iraq war vet Phil Kiver, who had to leave a few minutes early, as he drove away. He had driven about fifteen blocks when he was pulled over by a marked D.C. police cruiser. The officer told him that there had been calls all afternoon that his car was being driven erratically all over D.C. Unknown to the officer, Phils car had been parked right in front of the Code Pink House for the previous two hours. I wonder who would have made calls like that to the police? Phil checked out okay and was allowed to go about his business.
  • I wonder what the penalties are in D.C. for making false police and fire reports? I guess Ill have to find out.
  • Pictures from the freep should be posted tomorrow evening sometime.
  • We will be going back to freep the Pinkos again soon. Stay tuned for details.
  • Honor roll for today: Freepers Doctor Raoul; BufordP; Jimmy Valentines brother; Trueblackman; Mr. Trooprally and kristinn. Chief from the Gathering of Eagles, Phil Kiver and two friends.

  • Eagles protest Code Pink House in D.C.
  • GOE Eagles joined Free Republic in demonstrating in front of the Code Pink House in Washington, D.C. on Saturday. Ten gentlemen took station near the Code Pink house and distributed information to passing neighbors about the violations of local zoning codes that Code Pinks occupation of the house represents.
  • Situated near Capitol Hill, the East Coast Corporate Headquarters of Code Pink (incorporated as a lobbying group) is located in a residential neighborhood. Code Pink also operates the property as a boarding house, charging a voluntary rent of $150 to $300 per month with as many as 20 guests at a time. Neither of these activities are permitted in a residential zone.
  • Neighbors of the Code Pink house commented about charter buses parking in the residential area, trucks blocking the street and loud discussions all hours of the night. Free Republic supplied the neighbors with the telephone numbers and information to file additional complaints.
  • Additional demonstrations will be held during coming weeks.

In keeping with his groups willful demagoguery and libelous tactics, he has posted a highly inflamed and erroneous account of an incident at GOE III. Furthermore, his readers boast that Chris photo is being sent around the internet so they can identify him and have offered to post Chris home address.

  • The Bastard Who Jumped Carlos

  • Here is the bastard from Gathering of Eagles who jumped Carlos on Sept 15, seen here with his biggest supporter and good friend and pal GWB, at a White House breakfast hosting The G.O.E. and Chris Hill three days AFTER they attacked Carlos, in full knowledge and clear support for what had been perpetrated. We can have no illusions about what we are fighting -
  • These are the hired Brown Shirts, organized and financed by we all know Who.
This is all part of The Plan, part of business as usual.
Its time for business as usual to be stopped.
  • As Cindy just wrote: Imagine.
  • Chris Hill (National Director of Ops for the Gathering of Eagles, a pro-war advocacy group) and other members of his group verbally and physically attacked a Gold Star father of a fallen soldier who was participating in a anti-war march on 9/15. The Gold Star father, Carlos Arredondo, was marching with a picture of his fallen son when Hill and members of the pro-war group began verbally harassing him and then physically confronted him to take away the photo of his son. In the process Mr. Arredondo was knocked to the ground and kicked. Hill wrestled the photo of Mr. Arredondos son, Alex, away from Gold Star father, claiming to have liberated it. The Gathering of Eagles Group had attended the anti-war march for the purpose of harassing and intimidating the protesters.
  • Three days later, the President, his wife Laura, Condi Rice, Karen Hughes, and, of course, fellow chicken-hawk Dick Cheney hosted a breakfast on the south lawn of the White House to honor pro-war groups, including the Gathering of Eagles, who they consider to be properly supporting the troops. Although the attack on the Gold Star father was well known at the time, the President proudly takes a photo with Chris Hill to show that this is his kind of guy.
  • The attached photos are of Chris Hill posing with Bush on the WH lawn, and Chris Hill and fellow G.O.E. at the anti-war march.
  • Chris Hill has a statement for the Eagles concerning the post and its implied threats:
  • Well, as you can see from the post, outright lies have not been enough for the anti-American forces. They have now resorted to a threat of physical violence against me in a public forum. Other threats have been made before this, both against me and others, but always via email, or in forums. This changes things.
  • I assure I am taking it seriously, but not overly. Anyone who would make such a public proclamation is obviously engaging in the vilest demagoguery. I am only posting it here to prevent all of you from going to his site. That will only assure that it stays up longer. I am fervently asking that no one take any action to rebut this, in any way, shape, form or fashion. Do not post responses here or elsewhere regarding it. Do not respond to any bait regarding it.
  • Remember the mission is what is important. We cannot jeopardize the cause. Our men and women in uniform need champions. If just one person responds inappropriately, it will be spun as if it was a coordinated, endorsed attack by our organization and all we have work so tirelessly for will be lost. Do not worry about me either. I have taken certain legal precautions and I am, now and forever, an infantryman. I will watch my six. Thank you for the support.

Hi Orlando CodePINK, Lydia and CodePINKgainesville ,
Jacque, up here in Gainesville.

Hi CodePINKgainesville,
Here's Pierce's notes on upcoming events. Regarding the Orlando, October 27
event, Scott Camil is coordinating rides to Orlando. You can call him at
375-2563 to offer or request a ride.
I spoke with Leslie and Deidra of CodePINKorlando as well as Lydia of
CodePINKtallahassee yesterday. The park permit doesn't begin until 1 p.m.,
therefore, there's not any time to set up the Peace Ribbon in Orlando. Debi
from CodePINKdelaware requested the Ribbon for Oct27 so I'm having
CodePINKlongisland send it directly to Delaware.
Also, Tally and West Palm CodePINKs want to have a $2 only table as they have
lots of buttons and bumperstickers but no tees or other gear; along with
donation jars; Orlando has some items, not much; no one seems enthusiastic to my
suggestion of selling pink lemonade. I have plenty of tees as my order just
came in; as well as buttons and bumperstickers -- but, it seems like we would be
competing against each other; it was suggested we split all the profits between
all the CodePINK chapters. Since I have high priced items, like long sleeved
tees for $20, it doesn't seem like it would be fair to me. And, CodePINK
Central store is almost flat out of stock. So, any input on this conundum would
be helpful.
I'm concerned about the lack of organization for the Orlando event. Let me
know if you are going. At this point I feel like skipping it or going in
another color, not pink. Any feedback?
Your pal,
Jacque Betz

Dear CodePINKgainesville,
Mark your calendar for Monday, Oct. 22. This SDS event begins at the Reitz
Union. At 2 pm a march will begin to downton Gainesville City Hall.
For a long time I've heard local folks complain, "where are the college

Hi,
Jacque here, from Gainesville, Florida CodePINK.  I wanted to update y'all from what I hear up here in Gainesville Florida regarding the Oct27 Orlando event and respond to Sheri, of Orlando, request for an inventory of what the various Florida Chapters have for the Oct27 event.

Update as of Oct19 4 pm:  Vets for Peace, Gainesville, is organizing local rides and currently they have 12 people signed up for Oct27.  The University of Florida, UF,  chapter of Students for Democratic Society, SDS, expects a car of two as well as the UF Students Against War, SAW, expect to travel down to Orlando in a couple of vehicles.   I've heard from a few other peace folks who will be driving down, so my best guess at this point is about 50 from Gainesville committed as of today, Oct 19.
Groups here in Gainesville want to know the rules for vending at Lake Eola Park Oct 27; is vending of merchandise only or cold drinks, too, and what about food?  Are there public drinking fountains at the Park as well as restrooms?  Also, where do you suggest we park our cars?  Any other tips would be appreciated.  Are there restaurants nearby?
Regarding CodePINK Florida Chapters vending, I think each Chapter should bring their own literature table and merchandise to sell and be responsible for their things.  I think all the CodePINK Chapter tables should be grouped together, but each should vend their own merchandise.  I have 500 business cards, on pink card stock that I can bring that says CodePINK Women for Peace www.codepinkalert.org and then it says Join One of Our Local Florida Chapters: but it only lists orlando, gainesville, tally, and tampabay -- (I had them printed about 2 years ago) but they could write other info on the back of the card.  I have about 200 Join CodePINK flyers with my Gainesville contact info on them and I have the CodePINKgainesville bookmarks How to Stop War.  I also hand out Peace Ribbon Project flyers.  The Peace Ribbon will be displayed in Delaware Oct27.
Sheri asked what banners, merchandise, equipment, etc. folks had.  Here is my list from Gainesville Chapter:
Banners:
CODEPINK FLORIDA Women for Peace 8' banner white linen with shocking pink paint lettering (on a dowel).
CREATE PEACE CodePINK Women for Peace 8' banner on pink linen tie dye with black lettering (on a dowel).
WOMEN SAY PULL OUT NOW Codepink Women for Peace 6'x5' banner shocking pink
THE WAR IS A LIE AND YOU KNOW IT 4'x4' on a dowel, shocking pink satin
STEP DOWN BUSH AND TAKE YOUR WHOLE AGENDA WITH YOU 10' on shocking pink
YOU CAN NO MORE WIN A WAR THAN YOU CAN WIN AN EARTHQUAKE  3'x5' light pink on dowel
OUR LIVES BEGIN TO END WHEN WE BECOME SILENT ABOUT THINGS THAT MATTER 3'X5' pink on dowel
Merchandise:
I have 20 CodePINK tees, a dozen buttons, about 25 bumperstickers, about 8 Bush Blows bubbles; 72 pink bandannas
Equipment:
I have a pink table cloth, I have a 12'x12' red/white/blue scalloped canopy--banners pink slips and signs can be hung from this nicely with clothespins, I have lots of clothespins; , a 2x4 foot table I use to vend with, a smaller table to serve the pink lemonade; a pink 5 gal bucket as well as a little camp chair to sit on; I have a 2.5 gallon thermos cooler with a spout that I vend pink lemonade with; I can bring it full of pink lemonade--I'm very particular that whoever pushes the button have clean hands and I never let a customer serve themselves -- I try to run a really neat, clean operation; I also have a cooler for ice, an ice scoop, pink cardboard for signs, pink cups, about 100 cups.
As I told Deidra, Leslie and Lydia, it really isn't a big deal whether I vend or not ... just want to be clear about it upfront. Also, I was not comfortable just putting all the CodePINK gear together and charging $2 for everything.  I think we should charge the website store price for merchandise we sell.  Also, I think that if there are other peace groups vending, we should have plenty of literature and merchandise available for folks from CodePINK and be represented well.   I think we should put forth a lovely effort.  OK, I hear that some CodePINKs are leaving as soon as the rally is over to attend another event at Epcot;  so I think it is doubly important that each of us be responsible for what be bring, and keep track of it separately. That way people can take their things and depart when they want.
I still think that the Oct27 event provides an opportunity for Pinks around the state to meet, greet each other and, if at all possible, someone in Orlando that knows the area, should provide a nearby place with about 15 reserved seats where CodePINKs can rendezvous after the rally, even for an hour.
So far I have one rider and two volunteers to help me from Gainesville,  if I attend and if I vend.  I understand that we cannot get into the Park until 1 p.m.; when is the permit over and when do we have to be out of there by?  Where can folks drop off tables, chairs, canopies, and that sort of thing and how far do things have to be carried to be set up at the Lake Eola site?
Do you anticipate folks vending before or after the march?
Thanks for everything you do for peace!

PS:  Gator pinks:  When CodePINKorlando responds, I will post the information at the CodePINKgainesville site.

Hi CodePINKgainesville, Gainesville Vets for Peace, and CPs,
I am forwarding a few responses to an email I sent CPOrlando regarding questions I ask about tabling, food, drinks, parking, nearby restaurants and an opportunity for CodePINKs from around the state to meetup for an hour or so after the Oct27 event for a little brief meet and greet at a nearby restaurant.  Below is Anne's offer and edress.
I also offered to put up my red/white/blue 12'x12' canopy at Lake Eola Oct. 27 with the thought that all the CodePINK chapters to circle up around it,  each bring their own little table and CPgear/literature and meet around the canopy; fly their banners from the canopy, decorate it all in pink!; of course this depends of if the lay of the land; permit limitations, etc.--see my followup question to CPOrlando Sheri and see Sheri's initial reply below.  Thanks Sheri for such a nice, informative reply regarding PARKING, too.
See the info below regarding Oct27 vending and parking, and Anne's request to respond to afterward meetup.
Your pal for peace,
Jacque Betz
Gainesville

Followup question for Sheri, other deciders based on info below:  What do you think of the idea of a 12'x12' canopy with the CodePINK chapter tables circled around it?  Will other peace groups at Lake Eola have canopies?  The canopy could potentially accommodate 8 4 foot tables and hold all the banners and really be eye-catching with all the after-rally banners hanging around it.  Florida CodePINKs could circle up, put some chairs inside and be able to meet, greet, keep their personal stuff safe for that hour and a half after the march is over.
  What do you think?  Jacque

I think we will be able to vend merchandise - drinks are likely ok. I don't know anything about food.

there are restaurants, drinking fountains and restrooms nearby. Regarding parking there is a garage On Central between Magnolia and Rosalind. Also the SunTrust Garage off south Street. I think there will be a good bit of street parking for those arriving on the early side.

Each CodePINK Chapter will not be able to have their own table. For one thing it will be too many. There is not a great deal of time at the site. Maybe 1-1/2 hrs. I can appreciate that people want to know what the arrangement is up front for vending. I do think we could have a couple of tables and maybe any rep who wants to sell their own merchandise could do that. I don't even know if CP Orlando will be merchandising as Deidra, Leslie and I will be tied up with logistics and not be able to work the table.

Hi All,

On Monday,  we are continuing our stand (or sit) on the southwest corner of St. Roads 21 and 26 in Melrose.  Bring signs, pots and pans, music, poetry, candles or anything else which shows your non-violent response to our government's actions both at home and abroad.

We are there from 5:00 - 6:00p.m.  Please try hard to be there by 5:00.  We can park either on the street or on the west side of the shed, which is next to Chiappini's gas station.  No parking in the lot adjacent to where we stand.
Join us.  We need your presence, your energy, your voice.

We have tentatively set aside October 29th to gather after our stand for pizza, socializing, and strategizing.  Pencil in your calendars and I'll keep you posted.
