Welcome to the Chesapeake and Ohio Towpath group!

The C&O towpath is a 184 mile unpaved path along Maryland's Potomac River valley. The entire towpath is located within the C&O Canal National Historic Park.

This group discusses all types of activities within the park. One of the more popular activities is bicycling.

Georgetown to DC
Interested in riding the C&O from Georgetown into DC then into VA to Mt. Vernon. Anyone been out and about on the C&O in that area re: conditions?

Big Savage Tunnel on the Great Allegheny Passage
As of yesterday, 14 December, the Big Savage Tunnel between Frostburg, MD and Meyersdale, PA is CLOSED for the winter. It will reopen in early April of 2010.
