Thought I would try to get something going on the list. Joe Cox gave
his journal on the forum page. Great job. If and WHEN you go out, come
back with your journal and log it to the onelist group so we can all
enjoy the adventures of fellow (male and female) Clipper Owners.
Just a thought.
I hope to get out tomorrow. If I do, I'll post my impressions and
thoughts of the day.
Hope you do to. Thanks agian Joe

Hey larry,
Do you have a drawing of what the keel cable is supposed to look like and
how it is attached to the swing keel on the CM-23

Hi Larry,
Well the keel is out, is was a mess, has a hole rusted through in the area
you cannot see unless it was down, that will get a piece welded and ground
to fit.
They have grinded the rest of it fairly smooth and are covering the whole
thing with epoxy and then will sand it smooth, the pivot hole is elongated
and that are going to rebush that.
The pivot bolt was bent real bad and the keel housing has some movement
near the pivot bolt hole that must be repaired.
The cable itself was routed through the cable hole, only a piece of a
thimble was left, The three little cable ties were so rusted that it was
amazing the keel did not just freefall down a long time ago, The winch was
also rusted out pretty bad, everything will be replaced with new stainless
and it will be good to go in about a week.
I just bought a used Garmin GPS "48" for 90 bucks with a swivel mount.
West Marine is selling them now for 219.00 and another 25.00 for the mount.
Keep in touch
Bill
Having trouble getting the scanner to save so when I get it going will
send you some photos

I don't know about the algae, but.....
There was a thread regarding wax on a hull on the Trailer Sailor messageboard
a week or two ago. Seems that wax was bad, but a good wet sanding down to
800 grit was good. Something to do with bubbles sticking to the wax. Don't
know if it is wort 3 knots or 0.3 knots.

Anyone with a good solution to getting dried alge of the bottom of my
boat and once it is off what would need to be done before putting into
the water. Wax or not or ??
Thanks for the help of a newbee.
Larry
Its pretty much a judgement call I guess. If I am singlehanding I
definitely wear my PFD (auto-inflatable harness type) at all times. I
rarely clip in unless the weather is quite bad. When singlehanding you
should also drag a line to help you back aboard, but again I often
neglect to.
I do carry a whistle and strobe on my PFD.

I found the comments on the forum in regards to PFD's interesting. This
will be my first year to sail alone so I thought I would ask what is
your view point and procedure to sailing solo, and the use/non-use of
PFD's while you sail. Also where and how do you secure yourself on your
boat. Thanks for taking the time.

Hay!Hay! I have just signed on to the "cmoa". I haven't enjoyed all news.
I own a CM30, I need all the info I can get on this wonderful boat. I hope
to soon have some pictures for the cmoa site.
When we found her she did not have a rudder. Would look the specs. We
have designed one works good.
The weather here in Kentucky is coming about. high 60s to low 70s this
week. We be sailing this "She and I" Friday.

hi didnt go sailing this weekend and will be out of town next but have the
texhoma Lake Fest Regatta on the 8 thru 10th of april my wife and i are
looking forward to that. I recently installed a 150% genoa on a roller furler
and it makes all the difference in the world on how she sails, hope to get a
new main this year . Rick Rheinlaender
Hi all,
Just took off the tarp, bailed some water and started the outboard.
Taking her out will have to wait a bit. I have a bit of work to do
on the boat and the trailer. Paint the hull, replace the keel cable,
tear out the v-bearth and replace the foam and a few other
things. I hope it doesn't take too long! ; }

I'll bit too.
Did go sailing Sat. Not on the CM though. It was on a Schock 35, a 30
mile race winds to 35 knots or so. Most of the time it was at 12 to 15
knots of wind with gusts to 25 or so. We hit 11+ knots once and were doing
a steady 8-9 on the way back. That was without the chute. It was quit a
ride and a lot of fun. At the end I was pretty exhausted so I went home to
my good ol CM32 took the dog for a quick walk and then took a long nap.
We'll have to give Alex a hard time as he is giving up his Clipper 26 for a
Valiant 42, can you believe that.
Does anyone need a copy of a manual. A few years ago I mad several copies
for some folks, all with Clipper 26's and I still have one copy left. I've
never met of anyone else with a CM32, Though I've seen several here in the
Seattle area. There is a CM30 for sale at the time.
Well I think I am rambling so everyone have a great day.

Hi folks,
<whistling, blowing on microphone> Is this thing on?
Haven't seen much messaging going on, thought I would see if it was working.
Anybody going sailing this weekend?
Still got snow in that earlobepit?
Helooooooo
OK I am forced to threaten. If I don't start seeing some messages soon, I am
going to have to post a long and boring essay describing how exactly I
replaced the springs on my trailer.....
Anyone, anyone........ Bueller........
Happy heeling

Again thanks to all for helping to get CMOA up and out.
I will communicate from time to time with you about doing what can be
done to get the word out about the CMOA. Again, if you have a URL or
some pictures please feel free to forward them to me. I also will use
this to inform you of new items put on the page.
Check out: Clipper Marine 21 and 23 for some new items.
I will be going to the Sail Expo in Oakland:
http://www.sailnet.com/sailamer/sailexpo/pacific/
If any one in CA will be there on Friday, let me know, It would be great
to meet you.
Thanks,

Larry,
What you have so far is really great. Thanks for taking the time to put
it together. Might I suggest that the "clubs" concept (such as the one
at http://clubs.yahoo.com) is probably ideal for this as long as all the
participants are "trusted." One way to do this would be to use cmoa as
you have set it up as a gateway to the club.
In fact (1127 tick tick tick 1135) I just set one up as a private club.
I will send invites to anyone who wants one - please send your email
directly to me at alex_weinert@... and I'll send you an invite
to join.
Club has built in discussion list, chat, photo album, news, calendar,
etc. specific to our club.
Thanks,
Alex

Hi there!
I am Keith, the twice so-far and future sailor of a Clipper 21 called Sunset
Rose. I live near Pasadena Calif. and bought my Clipper last summer.
I obtained her out of a backyard close to home and have been attempting to get
myself together on all the projects the poor little thing needs. As many of
you know when the inside gets wet, here comes trouble. I haven't been out
except for to a small lake in San Dimas, where there was juuust enough wind to
tease.
As of late, I have ben trying to get the trailer to the poing where I feel
comfy pulling it farther than a couple of miles.
Glad to have contact with other Clipper sailors out there.
Thanks Larry.....
Keith
Greetings,
Well, Here goes. This is a first time for me. I am reallllllllly new
at this. I do appreciate you being involved. I live in Susanville, Ca.
and sail on Eagle Lake, http://members.tripod.com/~elsa55/index.html.
Last year was my first year with my Clipper and I am learning much.
I will try to get your info on the page somewhere and I am working on
locating a "forum" concept for on going dialog. Thanks again. This
should be some fun.
If you have any pictures or web pages that relate to the CM please feel
free to send them. Also, If you have some pictures but no scanner, I
hope you would feel comfortable enough the send them to me and I will
scan them and get them right back to you. E-mail me if you have any
questions.
Catch ya later,
LDR

Hello fellow Clipper owners. Thought I'd kick things off -
My name is Alex Weinert. My wife Heather and I have a Clipper MK26
"Agape" out at Shilshole Marina in Seattle. Agape is a traditional
cabin (e.g. she has some microscopic side-decks) built in 1975. She has
a pop-top and a dinette layout inside.
I've done a ton of work on her, though most of it has been structural to
date. I've redone her rudder twice, put on new gudgeons, replaced the
mast, built a new tabernacle & compression post, built a chart table,
rebedded the port window, am in the process of replacing the shelf on
the port side with proper cabinetry, etc. I am quite interested to hear
of other 26 owners' problems and modifications.
I sold the trailer when I first got the boat, so I have been keeping her
in the water. I fear I may find some blistering on the next haulout . .
.
Thanks to Larry for getting the list together!
Fair winds,
Alex Weinert
