CMKP Statement on the cartoons published in Danish and other Europe   Message List
Reply Message #4258 of 20071 |
The following is the statement issued by the Central Secretariat of the Communist Workers-Peasants Party Pakistan (CMKP) on the cartoons published in a Danish and other European newspapers, which have hurt the religious sentiment of the Muslims world over:

We uphold that every individual, community or nation is entitled to freedom of speech, press and faith on theoretical plane with the condition that larger interests of the people are not encroached upon, racial discrimination is not made, linguistic and cultural differences are not fanned and religious faith of other is not hated and hurt in any way so as to maintain social balance and communal harmony. It is not proper to injure the religious sentiment of any group of people in the name of freedom of speech and press. What the Danish and other European newspapers have published the cartoons to make insulting caricatures of the Holy Prophet of Islam have not only unnecessarily helped cause outcry by the Muslims, but the trick of the trade is aimed at dividing the international community which has been ceaselessly waging unified struggle against imperialist globalization, war and domination since the end of the Cold War.

The pertinent question is what necessitated these newspapers to publish such provocative cartoons termed blasphemous and sacrilegious when unified fight against imperialism is getting strengthened globally with each passing day. The people of Europe and the North Americas have been equally condemning American military occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq, which are predominated Muslim countries. They have been demonstrating their international solidarity with Syria and Iran, which are being threatened by the US imperialism to invade them.  The statement of US President George W.Bush supporting the freedom of speech testifies his evil intention to create a wedge between the Muslims and Christians. If he is an ardent supporter of the freedom of press and speech, why he is not tolerating the charges against Israeli barbarism causing terrible killings, destructions and immense suffering of the Palestinians. Similarly, worldwide condemnation against his administration's brutality in Iraq and Afghanistan, including their occupation are not taken into account and rejected with arrogance. Where is the freedom of speech, justice and democracy? The so-called Western democracy does not allow scientific criticism against capitalism as a system of cabalism. Even anti-imperialist progressive forces are not tolerated in most of Western European and North American countries. Strict vigilance and censorship are carried out against left-oriented political parties and trade unions. When President Bush and Prime Minister Blair were questioned on the American and British aggressive occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq subsequent feeling and destructions and legality of the aggressive wars, they accused the media man as the agents of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Is it freedom of _expression and press? So, it is totally hypocrisy on the part of American President. Similarly, the Blair government accused the BBC of interviewing nuclear scientist Kelly who disclosed how the British government forced its intelligence agencies to make dossier confirming the presence of nuclear stockpiles in Iraq. The shame on the British democracy is that scientist Kelly was killed for exposing the truth. This is freedom of speech?

Today, it is Islamic fundamentalism that is taken as the enemy of mankind. But this is not the end of story. Tomorrow Christianity, day after tomorrow Judaism, then Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. might be interpreted as disaster for human civilization and modern values in a bid to protect capitalism if there would be intensified struggle against it. Racial, linguistic and sectarian differences may be exploited as a weapon to protect capitalism.

It would be fitness of the thing to recall that in the whole of Cold War area, communism was projected as the main threat to the United Sates and Western Europe to mislead the American and European people, though the fact is that capitalism was frightened of the spread of socialist movements, leading to elimination of class exploitation. Since an unjust and weaker system like capitalism that has taken the form of imperialism always remains captive of fear of the working class struggle, its (capitalism's) defenders always need a shield of psychological warfare to protect the system. Now, Islam after the demise of the Cold War is being taken a threat to Western civilization and national security of Western world. Islamic fundamentalism and its associated terrorism that were created by none but by Western imperialist powers used against communism are now being propagated as the main challenge. It is a mockery of the time that the angles, Islamic fundamentalists, created by them yesteryears are called demons today. Undoubtedly, they were condemnable stooges of imperialism yesterday. The main culprits, however, are imperialists notably the United States.

The CMKP is of opinion that the publication of cartoons is a deep-rooted conspiracy to weaken the anti-imperialist international movement by alienating the Muslims from mainstream world politics, who are very sensitive on their religious faith. But it is also optimist that the foul play will fail to harm international solidarity against domination, subjugation, war and the plunder of natural resources of nations of the world by imperialist powers. It vehemently condemns the heinous crime to enrage the Muslims so that they, belonging to the part of Third World, may be isolated from the worldwide anti-imperialist movement. The cartoonists seem to have worked for dividing the rising anti-imperialist strength through the vehicles of freedom of speech as well as religious prejudice.
