Hey everyone!

Hope your finals are going well! Life's been busy lately, so Joseph and I thought a shopping trip might be the perfect study break! We're planning to go down to the outlet malls in Vacaville, which is about a 30 minutes south of Davis. Yay for shopping therapy!

Please send me an email (at allison.j.sieber@...) if you're planning to come so we can plan on having enough cars!

Hey Club i,

This Saturday in the Thanksgiving Dinner & we need your help to make it happen!

Tickets have for the event are sold out, but we still need volunteers to take tickets that night, put together side dishes, and clean up after dinner.

This Friday evening, International House will be showing a movie from 7:30 to 10:00 pm in the Community Room. After that, at 10:00 pm, we'll be setting up tables and doing some decorating for the Thanksgiving Dinner! I'm bringing some wine and chips...just to make it fun, feel free to follow my example ^___^ Should be lots of fun!

I have a correction to the info I just sent out: tickets for the dinner are
$10 for CURRENT MEMBERS of International House-Davis and
$12 for anyone who's NOT A MEMBER.
So, everyone who paid for an IHouse membership at the potluck is in luck! You get a discount. :)

Those of you who got tickets from me last week at bowling, I'll bring them to Little Prague tonight just in case you're there. Otherwise they'll be at the door for you! Everyone else, get you tickets at I-House while they last!

Hey everyone!

Well next Saturday (the 21st) is the Club i & I-House Thanksgiving Day Dinner, our biggest event of the year & we're getting down to business here at I-House! It's a delicious traditional Thanksgiving Dinner open everyone and it's always a really popular event, in addition to an important fund-raiser for International House, which is REALLY struggling this year, due to lots of funding cuts.

(buy them before the event at International House, during regular business hours, b/c they always sell out!)

We're planning to meet up this Friday at the MU (on campus) for a little indoor fun in this newly dark, cold winter weather. I know some of you have been asking about the remaining "traditional American food " cooking classes at International House. They're a great chance to brush up on your cooking skills while hanging out with some fun people...and then you get to eat a great meal at the end! Here's a message form the Director of I-House with more info:

We are deeply discounting three remaining "How to Cook American-style" cooking classes.

The classes are being held at I-House, in the kitchen, 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, Nov. 12, Nov. 19 and Dec. 3 and will only be $5 each, member or non-member.

Those interested in taking a class and enjoying a delicious meal will still have to phone Deborah Zavala to make a reservation at 753-5007. Thanks! E.

Halloween is coming and it's time to carve some pumpkins! This Friday, we're planning to go to a pumpkin patch and just outside of Davis and pick our own pumpkins then go back to my house and carve them for Halloween decorations!

Hey Club-i

This week we'll be having a Karaoke Night in the basement of International House Davis! The basement has a separate entrance, to the left of the Mrak Terrace (where the Welcome Cookout was). I'll put a sign out so everyone can find it. There will be an Art Show going on in the Community Room that night too, which is a separate event, but I highly recommend checking it out, because the art on display is pretty cool.
So, just to be clear, Club-i Karaoke is in the basement & the Art Show is on the 1st Floor

Mark your calendars for Oct. 5: Tango is coming to 10 College Park.

"The salsa dance classes held at International House over the past year have been so popular that we've decided to offer a tango workshop," said Elisabeth Sherwin, executive director.

"We were lucky enough to find Ernesto Rassi, the husband of Humphrey Scholar Maria Cecilia Gonzalez of Uruguay," she added. Ernesto is a dance instructor and musician.

The workshop will be free to International House members, all others will be asked to pay $10 for the four-day workshop, which will take place on Mondays on Oct. 5, Oct. 12, Oct. 19, Oct. 26. The classes will take place in the Community Room from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

"Women are asked to wear high heels and skirts," said Sherwin. "Men should wear comfortable shoes. I-House will provide water and soft drinks. Couples and singles are welcome!"

Also, I-House docents will get a sneak peek at the tango class on Monday, Oct. 5 at lunchtime when the docents enjoy their regular monthly luncheon potluck get-together.

Fall Welcome Potluck & Cookout!

Club I will be hosting Potluck & Cookout at International House-Davis to welcome new international students to Davis and also to welcome everyone else back for the coming school year! This is an event for the whole community, so come hang out on the patio, eat some food, listen to the DJ, and meat some new people!

We'll be selling burgers (or veggie burgers) and a soda for $1.50 to support Club International
This is a potluck, so if you can bring a side dish (like salad, chips, or fruit), it will be greatly appreciated!

Hey Club-i,

Two fun things going on this Friday! Abhi is having a house party at his place in West Davis (details below) and before that, I'm leading a biking tour of part of the Davis Loop and Village Homes! The bike group will meet at Boarders at 7:00 and end up at Abhi's house...which is right next to my house. Hi!

I'm going with a friend on a road trip to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon from
10/10/09 to 10/18/09.

We still have some places left in the car and if you like to join us, please
contact me.

The plan is the following:
On the first day we drive through the Death Valley to Las Vegas. Then we go
hiking in the Grand Canyon about 3 days. Afterwards we have several options to
hike in Brice Canyon, Zion, Canyonlands, Arches, or Kings Canyon and Sequoia
National Park. We're gonna decide spontaneously together.
In Grand Canyon and the second park we're gonna do backcountry camping, meaning
carrying all the stuff (thats the downside) and get away from the crowds (thats
the advantage).
