Let' hope that it's better than the two attempts
at joint authorship. I find that Kurt Austin and his
sidekick are very pale substitutes for Dirk Pitt and his
crowd. Although I find that "Blue Gold" is a very slight
improvement, but it's still not the Clive Cussler that we
know.
Kurt Austin and co. are a very pale reflection of
Dirk Pitt and Geordano. There is no depth in the
characters, with Dirk he had a place where he lived, on and
off romantic daliences with a secure root romance. We
see none of the with Kurt, there is just nothing to
tie him to. With Dirk you could relate to his
previous adventures, and there was always the looking to
find CC as a camio in each story. With the new format
the old crew, Admiral, scientists, it gurues etc. are
definately being put out to grass in the background. I'm
afraid that these recent books do not evoke the same
anticipation, sorry.
I agree I did'nt really like Kurt and Co. it
didnt seem to have the edge that Dirk and Al have and
you misspelled Al's last name it's Giordino. Just
finished a reread of Inca Gold and I did'nt find that type
of hard edge the excitement with Kurt
I just picked up Atlantis Found in paperback
havent read it yet, cant wait to start from what I hear
its some of his best work. It will be good to read
some new Dirk material I know its got to be beter than
the Kurt Austin stuff<br>Baba
Well I just finished Atlantis Found, I liked the
plot twist from the comet to the ice shelf. WOW Al
getting married that came out of left field. I thought
that Loren and Dirk would get married. Kept me going
not his best work but in the top 5 I think. After I
finished it I closed it and I was depressed thinking that
this might be the last new Dirk Pitt story I read. But
I hope CC will write one or two more Kurt Austin
just doesn't do it for me<br>Baba
i couldnt believe how good Atlantis Found was. Just finished it this
afternoon...wish i could describe why but all i could end up saying was "this
has GOT to be the best ever"....
Thought everyone would be intrested in

I am new to this Club. Some of you may know me
from other Cussler sites. I am Jean and have been a
fan of Clive Cussler and his books for near eight
years. It was between SAHARA and INCA GOLD that I found
him. SAHARA was the first book for me and I was
totally hooked. Thankfully INCA was soon to follow, but
in the meantime I read all the other books. Reading
some of your recent comments I see that you are
discussing ATLANTIS FOUND...which is about tied for first
place in my opinion with TREASURE and INCA GOLD a hairs
breadth behind. VALHALLA RISING will be released August
13th with the promise of changing Dirk's life forever.
If you haven't read a synopsis of the story, do a
search on penguinputnam.com. Also, the movie of SAHARA
is moving steadily along and should begin production
this November. These are happy days for Cussler fans
and I'm ecstatic. I hope to get to make all your
acquaintenances.<br>:D Jean
What Movie? I had heard that Paramount was
considering Alec Baldwin as Pitt and Sean Connery as Brian

I am glad to see CC work on the big screen, I
think Alec Baldwin would be a good choice for Dirk with
green contact lens's of coarse and Dom Deluies would be
perfect for St. Juliann. But the rest I'm not sure of, I
think Al would be the hardest one to cast, someone who
is 5'4" and built that way might be hard to find. I
remember hearing an interview with CC in the S.F. Bay Area
(where I live) and he said that he would never do
another movie after what happened with Raise the Titanic.
I hope he has complete control over the screenplay.
I just reread Titanic and I think I'm going to go
rent the movie just to see how bad it is. And did
anyone really think that Atlantis would be the last time
we see Dirk, Al and the boys? <br>Baba
I can't wait to see this movie. Although I don't
like Alec Baldwin. Raise the Titanic wasn't the best
movie every made, but it was done so long ago. If it
would have been done maybe in the late 80's to now it
would have been better. They left too much stuff out.
Yeah I kind of thought that would have been the last
of the two guys especially with Austin books coming
out.
Hi lizard, who do you see playing Dirk? the
others? The reason I dont like the Titanic movie is that
Dirk was barely in it. Thats the way it happens in the
movies, the studio gets ahold of it and changes
everything to make it better and most of the time screws it
up, how can you have a CC novel made into a movie and
not have Dirk or Al in it? <br>Baba
The person I thought that fit the description
better was Tom Selleck. Maybe I'm just watching to many
Magnum P.I. reruns. Or then again maybe I need to reread
one of the novels to get a fresh sense of Dirk. I
don't know, I've just always pictured Tom Selleck when
reading Dirk's description. Everytime I think of a Dirk
adventure I think of Magnum P.I. If Magnum P.I. had more
government in it, then it would be just like a Dirk
adventure to me.<br><br>Okay, if I just sounded totally
dumb, just excuse me.<br><br>Lizard
I'm with you Lizard I think Tom Selleck would
make a perfect Dirk always have he has the height and
fits the discription but with green eyes and I always
have pictured him when I read CC. And i thought that a
young Robert Blake would make a good Al. I to watch
Magnum reruns A&E 11 and 5 my time so dont feel bad I'm
right there with ya. Raise the Titanic was on today it
was'nt as bad as I remember but they left out all the
action witch made it a little boring for me,i hope they
dont do that with the next one.<br>Baba
I don't think the next one will be as bad as
Raise the Titanic. The movie industry has come along
way with computer graphics, special effects and
stunts. Visually the movie will probably be great. It's
the storyline they could screw up. Which I hope they
won't. If Cussler has a say in the script I know they
won't.
no...this is dumb...I picture my 11th grade
English teacher as Pitt, as this teacher introduced my to
my first Dirk Pitt book. I picture John Denver as
AL(I have no idea why), and I picture the cartoon
character Rudy from Fat Albert, as Rudy. I started Reading
CC novels when I was 15, so these images have stuck
in my head. See, Lizard, not so weird or dumb.
Okay, I admit that thing with Rudy from Fat
Albert was a little weird. I haven't thought of that
show in ages. And maybe the John Denver on also. Who
the heck is John Denver? Oh wait I think my husband
has one of his CDs.
liz and baba, et al, I have enjoyed your posts
and tried to respond, but forgot my password and had
the devil of a time getting it. Here at last, though.
John Denver was a singer who was killed in his own
private plane crash several years ago. I think you liked
his sincere cheerful face...a little on the impish
side which is the way Cussler describes Al. Also, when
I was first reading Dirk Pitt, all I saw was Tom
Selleck...but thinking about the age question...Tom has
outgrown the role I believe. Some folks are talking about
Hugh Jackman...do you know him? What do you think?
Cheers. Jean
Its that the guy who did Wolverine? He's not my first choice to be Pitt. Lemme
see, let's throw another name out there....Harrison Ford? Strong, sexy, dark
wavy hair.....
