It helps if you do read them in series, but each book is also an
AWESOME story in itself.

I don't believe so, my first book was Night Probe. His books were suggested by a
friend, it had a cover of a train underwater and I was intrigued enough to check
it out and been hooked ever since.

I agree with the other posters in that it is not absolutely
necessary to read the books in order. My first one was "Inca Gold",
and I was instantly hooked and couldn't put it down. When I
finished it, I started scouring new and used bookstores for Mr.
Cussler's previous books, and special ordered what I couldn't find.
Believe me, it's well worth the investment!

That said, a lot of the books do often reference things that have
happened in previous books. However, they're generally just passing
references, and the current book still makes plenty of sense without
knowing all of the history. But I highly recommend reading them all!

there a way to contact Mr Cussler or an agent regarding a classic

Arctic Drift is one of the best CC books in a quite some time. One
thing did bother me. In the past books, the US and Canada merged,
this is no longer the case in Arctic Drift.

It wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened. In Cyclops, a
secret moon base constructed after the moon landings played a central plot
point. But in Sahara there was secret evidence that the moon landings were faked
which would negate much of Cyclops.

That was one of my favorite parts in Sahara, Perlmutters trip to the
secret archives with the revelations about Lincoln, Kennedy, Chernobyl
and Apollo. Once again, a great part not included in the movie. I do
enjoy the movie, I just wish they hadn't cut out the Lincoln plot line.

The fact that no matter what book they make into a movie, wether it is a CC
book or any other author, it is never going to live up to fans of the book's
expectations. Nor if they made a movie that did stay faithful to the book
would the movie make any $$. The reality is that the two worlds of fan desire
and
Hollywood $$ don't meet. Rarely if ever do books translate to the big screen
in the intricate detail and intricacy of a written novel. Things like author
ego (CC suffers from it) to Hollywood CGI mentality stand in the way of that
  happening.

Most of CC's early books (IMHO his good ones..) would be 5-6 hour epics to
get all the plot points, etc that would make a fan happy. And that would never
happen....you want a true to the book screen adaptation...push for a mini
series..or have Tom Hanks get HBO interested.......

That said, my vote for screen adaptation would be "Night Probe"......

There is enough plot in each novel to make two or three movies, perhaps up to
four with the later ones. Once Hollywood realizes this, they might have a
successful franchise. But I doubt it.

Alright you guys, if you didn't like Sahara as a movie. What CC book

would you like to be made into a movie. Me personally, I would like to

see them make a version of Shock Wave as this is one of my favourites.

I've lost count as to how many times I've read it.

After seeing "Sahara" on dvd, I found it as close to the storyline as
a 2 hour movie can get. The biggest problem is trying to fit a 500
page novel into a 150 -200 page screenplay. What is left out alot are
the details, which we all savor when we read the books. This drives
authors crazy because they tend to think that their entire story has
been ripped apart. With "Sahara" the only basic thing missing was the
Abraham Lincoln sideline.

I have been receiving these e-mails as well. I have blocked the majority of
them, but like you said, they use a different e-mail address each time.

I don't remember a discussion of this novel so my apologies if it has
been talked about before.

I bought this book from Amazon thinking it was one of his Dirk Pitt
series, it met my criteria, it was by Clive Cussler and I didn't have
it. Only a few chapters into it and I absolutely love it. He has even
managed to work in a mention of himself into the story. Set in 1906,
one of the characters is all ready a car collector.
