Tex is right on! Cussler made me a collector. Patty wants more movies. The
problem I see with movies is that they always fall flat when compared to the
original book. Tex, while you are waiting for the next CC novel, let me suggest
to give Dale Brown a try.

Would love to see one where all the main characters in
all the books get in on the action. But I think this
has been said before.

I haven't been this excited about adventure books
since John D. MacDonalds Travis McGee and Donald
Hamilton's Matt Helm series.

I have enjoyed the Oregon Files books, they are a different kind of story,
not straight forward confrontational action like Dirk, but more clandestine.
They are long reads, but they are fun.

Puppyluv,

I agree with you. I just finished Golden Buddha and was greatly
disappointed. It was a very long, boring read for me with too many
characters not adequately described. But now I know all about how to fly a
helicopter!!!! I really disliked it greatly....and I'm sorry I have to
admit that after being a huge fan for over 20 years. I dread picking up
Sacred Stone if it is going to present the same challenge of enjoyment.

I was shocked at how different and better the book was than the Movie.

The Movie was good, I bought it, and it is great, but just not the same as the
book.

Did the rumoured lawsuit by Cussler against the studio ever come to fruition?

Movies are made for one thing only, and that is to make a profit. There are
hundreds of different people working towards the completion and release of a
film. And they all will have some input towards the completion of the project. A
Book is A Book, a Movie is a Movie. Even if Clive Cussler controlled every
aspect of the films production, from writing the script, to choosing the talent,
to deciding the cameras angles, the end result would still differ from the
scenes played in your mind while reading. You, like myself enjoy the works of
this Author, we can best help by buying his books.

always better

** *The Adventures of Vin Fiz* FROM OUR EDITORS
Bestselling adult novelist Clive Cussler conjures up a hypnotic, charmingly
nostalgic tale about a pair of ten-year-old twins who get their wish to
explore the wide world beyond their parents' California farm.
FROM THE PUBLISHER
Ten-year-old twins Lacey and Casey Nicefolk live on a tiny herb farm in
California, wishing they could see the world . . . but how, when times are
so hard? That is where Sucoh Sucop comes in (you may notice his name is
Hocus Pocus spelled backward). The mysterious man leaves the twins a magic
box that can transform any toy into a life-sized reality. SoonCasey and
Lacey, and their faithful hound Floopy, are soaring cross-country through
the sky in the enchanted *Vin Fiz,* Casey's model of a Wright Brothers
biplane.Yet the ride is not a smooth one. The twins encounter danger after
danger, and must rescue a town held captive by gold-hungry bandits, not to
mention a runaway train full of terrified passengers!

In the tradition of *Chitty Chitty Bang Bang* comes an old-fashioned
adventure full of magic and heroism that will take young readers on a
journey not soon forgotten.
FROM THE CRITICS
Publishers Weekly
Bestselling adult author Cussler meshes fantasy and adventure in this
lighthearted tale, which opens on a California farm. After an itinerant
farmhand arrives to help the Nicefolk family with the harvest, twin
10-year-old siblings Casey and Lacey begin to hear "unexplainable tinkling
and clinking noises" coming from the barn. On his departure, the stranger
gives the kids a contraption that can make toys life-size-but they must only
use the device to do good and must keep it a secret. Cussler sets his tale
at a time when steamboats still traveled the Mississippi: Casey builds a
replica of the Wright brothers' biplane, Flyer, which he names Vin Fiz
(after his favorite soda pop), and uses the magical machine to enlarge it.
The twins and their dog take off on a cross-country flight in the aircraft,
which possesses a "mystical vision" that draws it to people in danger. Under
her guidance, the youngsters help free Nevada townsfolk forced by scoundrels
to labor in a gold mine, halt a runaway train overtaken by bandits in Ohio
and stop two girls from tumbling over Niagara Falls. Cussler sprinkles his
folksy narrative with instructional notes ("A line, by the way, is nautical
talk for rope") and facts (almost 800,000 gallons of water rush over Niagara
Falls every second), and characters' names emphasize the text's tall-tale
quality (e.g., Ever and Ima Nicefolk, Stoke and Blaze Firepit). This genial,
at times suspenseful, caper wraps up with a note about the real Vin Fiz, and
Farnsworth's drawings dramatize the climactic scenes. Ages 7-up. (Feb.)
Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information. School Library Journal
Gr 3-5-Cussler's first children's book is a tribute to an airplane that
crossed the United States in 1911. It is the tale of Casey and Lacey
Nicefolk, who receive a gift from a hired hand that allows them to make
their toys real and life-sized. First the twins make a tractor for their
parents' farm, and then they use the magic to create an airplane designed by
the Wright brothers that they call Vin Fiz. They decide to fly across the
country to New York. On the way, they rescue townspeople who have been
turned into gold-mining slaves by an evil man, keep a steamboat from
crashing into a barge, stop a runaway train, and rescue two girls from going
over Niagara Falls in a boat. Unfortunately, the book suffers from a lack of
characterization as well as problems with gender stereotypes. Lacey, the
female twin, is never the hero in the adventures. The writing is stilted and
the story fails to come to life even though the situations have the
potential to be exciting.-Tasha Saecker, Caestecker Public Library, Green
Lake, WI Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

Lizard,
Clive Cussler is very responsive to his fans.
He'll even send you signed manuscript pages of your request if they are
available.

Most, if not all, of Clive Cussler's books are unbelievable. It is
part of the fun, that Max is too.

I thought Steve Zahn was great. I really liked the chemistry between
him and Matthew McConaughey.

In the book SAHARA he wrote himself in as the guy traveling through
the desert, i believe also searching for the TEXAS. It's been a while,
i htink he was the one that turned Pitt onto the search in the book.
He was cast as the same person in the movie and it was filmed but as a
result of litigation between him and the studion the scene was cut. As
well as the opening scene of Kitty Montauk's flight. His daughter had
the role of kitty, but thatscene was left on the cutting room floor as
well.

Yes!! They did work very well together, my only beef - in the book Al is built
like a brick wall, he is strong! They needed or need to buff him up a bit more!

At this point no! I know Matthew wants to do more along with Steve, in fact I do
believe their under contract to do more.
But I think they need or are trying to get any law suits out of the way! I
strongly feel Clive needs to be a part of the process, so I hope they work out
the issue's amongst each side.
I feel Clive is right, but at the same time, he may have to be more flexible,
even though I do think he was in the right!

Hopefully we will see more movies soon!

Hey, all --

I'm a relative newbie to DP / CC, although I've known of both for about
15 years now (and was familiar w/ the Richard Jordan movie before I knew who
either DP / CC were), so pardon me if I'm asking redundant questions.

Having not read "SAHARA", I don't know all the discrepancies that're
always so prevalent in any media adaptation, but I did like it & the
characterisations. I hope to see more celluloid adventures of Dirk, Al, the
Admiral, & NUMA. So... what're these law suits regarding the movie version of
"SAHARA"?! While suits are generally not a good thing, there are degrees of
suits that can be settled fairly easily, while others will put the kibosh on the
property ad infinitum. Which is the case here?

Also, I've recently picked up a copy of "CC & DP Revealed", but haven't
read any of the novels yet. Should I abstain from reading it before I delve
into the actual books, & if so, should I start from the beginning & go from
there, or are there certain ones that're recommended to start with?

Thanks for the indulgence & I'm really glad to be here.

Dear Doctor Wholittle,

Definitely, read the previous novels of Clive Cussler prior to diving into
Clive Cussler/Dirk Pitt revealed. Get yourself familiar with the characters
and scenarios prior to reading the book you have. It's a good reference
book to refer to as you read through the novels.
Both my husband and I have been Cussler fans for decades. He's our author
of choice.
The characters remain the same (for the most part) in all his novels. So,
start with his first book. You'll also discover how he honed his skills to
becoming one of America's top writers.
