Hi everyone: Would you like an evening at the theater, with your
Classicist friends?
Mary Zimmerman's *Argonautika* will be playing at the Berkeley
Rep's larger (Rhoda) theater for much of November and December. Lauri
Reitzammer (Greek 102- Bacchae), Trevor Murphy (Classics UGA) and
yours truly (Classics 10A) are organizing a FIELD TRIP for our own
students to see this theatrical extravaganza -- which is presumably
related (more or less closely) to those well-known texts of Euripides,
Apollonius, Ovid, Seneca, etc.
Mary Zimmerman's *Metamorphoses* was much enjoyed here, a few years
ago (also at the Berkeley Rep); and she has a strong national
reputation as an adaptor of "Classical" material and as an imaginative
theatrical-choreographical writer and stage-director.
We thought it might be fun if a large contingent of Classicist
students and amateurs of theater were to attend a performance
together. So we are purchasing a bunch of tickets for the evening of
THURSDAY NOVEMBER 29. We will offer these tickets first to students
at the discount rate of $10. (The group rate is usually $15; tickets
purchased individually for those "under thirty" are are usually
$21-30. For older fogies they charge $40-60.)
First priority will be given to students in Greek 102, Classics 10A,
and members of the Classical Forum. At this point, we intend to
purchase 50 tickets for them -- but we could purchase more, if wanted....
... i.e., if more (of YOU ALL) want to join us, we WILL purchase
more tickets., on the same basis.
So if you'd like to be included please CONTACT PROFESSOR GRIFFITH
(markg@...) or REPLY TO THIS THREAD as soon as possible if
you'd like to be included. Professor Griffith will be buying the
tickets tomorrow (Sat Oct 27).
