CKI: IT'S TIME TO TEAM UP TO FIGHT HUNGER

Hunger has always been a serious problem facing the world, and one that
we at CKI have always tried to address. �And as you can probably imagine,
hunger has become even more prevalent with the current economic crisis
facing people all over the world. �In an effort to help put food in the hands of those
who need it most, our partner Students Team Up To Fight Hunger (STUFH)
organizes end-of-year food drives at college campuses across the country.

For the last two weeks of the school year, as students are preparing
to leave for the summer, �STUFH arranges to have collection bins placed in
dorm or housing halls on campus so students can donate any unused food, rather
than discard it.

The STUFH food drive received significant support from CKI clubs across
the country last Spring for its 2008 end of college year food drive. �With
the help of CKI, STUFH raised over a million pounds of food at over 70
colleges in 27 states. �We are hoping that CKI members will again promote
STUFH throughout the country, and help feed hungry men, women and children
in their local communities.

Does your club have some really GREAT pics this year of it doing what it does best: service, leadership, and/or fellowship? Would you like to have your club's pictures displayed prominently at District Convention in a special slideshow highlighting the absolute BEST of the year? Then submit them to Governor Patrick at patrick.yelding@... and he will include them in the "Sweet Home Alabama" District Convention Slideshow! Please try to do this by February 20.

Also, there are a few things that had to be changed about the latest Bama Bugle, so I am attaching the update to this e-mail. It will also be loaded onto the Yahoo! Groups District Reflector home site and can be downloaded by those members with a Yahoo account. The most important change, the extension of the scholarship deadline by one week to February 16, is also included in my signature, but there are also some updates regarding District Convention room reservation and events. A printed version of this one is forthcoming as soon as I work out some issues with mailing the newsletter to certain clubs.

I have attached the first version of the District Convention Registration form. I have submitted a version to Governor Patrick with a few cosmetic changes and clarifications, but this first version will work, as there will be no differences in blanks or dollar amounts. Another thing that is not expected to change that you should know about is that the hotel reservation deadline IS FEBRUARY 3RD! That is in one week, and is not expected to change! If you don't reserve hotel rooms by then, the $112/night (about $63/person for quad occupancy) rate cannot be guaranteed! So talk this over with your clubs this week and go ahead and reserve your rooms! More information about District Convention is coming very soon!

I have attached the updated Policy Codes and Bylaws for 2010. Please note a few things:

1. We have added both the Policy Code PDF as well as the CKI Bylaw PDF. In addition to these two documents, we have also added a sheet the shows the approved amendments from the House of Delegates the Denver ICON for your review.

2. The policy code has been updated to reflect the new deadline for the Tomorrow Fund grant. The board, along with Gayle Webb, our staff liaison to the foundation, has updated the deadline to allow for more flexibility. The next deadline for grants will be December 15th, 2010. This will allow students and clubs to put plans together when they are back in school, rather than in the summer when many students are working and away from their college or university. Grants will be reviewed by the board at the January board meeting and will be announced shortly after that event.

3. The board has introduced an updated policy on drinking, which is in the process of being reviewed by the KI staff team as well as the risk management team. We will let you know the progress of this piece in the next few weeks. If it is approved as presented, then we will send you an updated Policy Code PDF.

Hey Hey Alabama,

In case you didn't know, there is a scholarship program within Circle K that offers four $1000 scholarships on the District Level, as well as several others on the International level. The deadline to apply for all scholarships is February 9, 2009, less than 3 weeks away, and there is a moderate amount of legwork involved, as two recommendation letters must be submitted, and some sources (including David Womack himself) often require a resume when putting together a recommendation letter.

Please see the attached forwarded message from Circle K International President Kristen Reed, that describes how you can apply for the scholarships, as well as participate in two other awards programs with upcoming deadlines. And more information will be included in my forthcoming Bama Bugle.

Greetings Circle K International!

The 2009 CKI Scholarship Handbook includes information about Circle K International scholarships and the District Matching Scholarship Program.

Students applying for CKI scholarships must do so through the district scholarship application process or submit them directly as indicated. Districts will then send to CKI one finalist for each CKI scholarship offered. A CKI committee at the International Office will determine scholarship winners.

Good Luck to all applicants and also remember to apply for the Society of Distinguished Collegians and the Service Recognition Award.

Hello Y'all Conference 2009 Attendees,

This is your pre-confirmation and reminder to make your hotel reservations. The Holiday Inn Patriots Point Mt Pleasant, SC has extended our room block until December 31 (Wednesday). Our rate of $94 per night is still locked in, but you must act now! Many of you have not yet made your reservations and we want to make sure you have somewhere to sleep.

You are responsible for finding 3 same-sex roommates, if you need roommates, post on the wall of the facebook group. One person in each room must contact the hotel and book a room by calling (800) 290-4004 and identify yourself with Y'all Conference January 16 arrival. They will ask for a credit card number to hold the reservation, but this card will not be billed. The bill can be spilt four ways among roommates at check out. If you and your roommates are not traveling together, make sure to include all four names on the registration so you can check in separately.

There is still room, so tell your friends to get registered no later than January 12!

Please respond if you have questions. A separate email will be sent to credit card paying attendees to confirm the amount (t-shirt or no t-shirt).

Hey Hey Alabama,

By now I sure hope if you're going to Y'all, that you have sent in
your registration form, found at www.carolinascki.org, and someone
from your club who is in charge has called the Holiday Inn Patriots
Point at 800-290-4004 and made a reservation, but if not, it's not
too late!

As of this evening at about 6 p.m. (Friday), the block was still open
for the Y'all Conference block rate of $94 per night plus tax (which
translates to $52.41 per person for quad occupancy).  But it does
look like it WILL CLOSE before Christmas, or New Years at the
latest!  So call and make your reservations this weekend!  You can't
wait for the Spring semester to begin to act on this!  Also, if you
haven't sent in your registration by now, just include $80 (or $90
including the optional T-Shirt) with it.  If a late fee is applied,
it won't be due until the start of the Conference.

Ok, that's enough about Y'all; now for some important information we
need from club officers concerning District Convention ASAP: Please
let me (Bamabugle2008@...), Governor Patrick Yelding
(patrick.yelding@...), and Administrator David Womack
(dwomack859@...) know an estimate of how many people will be
attending District Convention.  Patrick would have sent this message
himself, but he seems to be out of contact right now and we really

This is your last reminder that Y'All registration is due in less than an hour,

Though they may be lenient since it IS still Friday here after Midnight EST for one hour (until 1 AM EST, which is Midnight our time), this is pretty much "down to the wire" if you don't want to be subject to a late fee.
