I won't be posting any media tonight. But this site might have some
media up very soon...

I just found a site that has mp3s of all of the top 11 performances.
His clips have much better sound quality than my clips.

Wow. I'm totally impressed. I think she's in a class by herself in
terms of originality, style and just pure vocal talent. I don't think
she'll win CI because her singing style doesn't seem to suit the pop
songs she's covering. This girl should be singing jazz. But if she
decides to go mainstream, she would certainly bring something new to
pop music.
Those audio clips alone made me a Jenny convert. Thanks. :)
Ummm. I'll try to upload the group performances in the alternative
site tonight. Can't do it right now. For the meantime, keep trying to
download the clips in the files section of cichat.
Hi--does anyone have either of the two results show performances? I need the one from last night, and the first one, "Love Can Move Mountains". Thanks!

Toronto, Ontario (August 12, 2003) - Only six remain as Toronto's
Mikey Bustos and Edmonton's Tyler Hamilton became the next two
finalists to be eliminated from Canadian Idol, as revealed tonight
live on CTV. The duo received the least amount of votes following
Monday's live performance episode, held before a sold-out audience at
Toronto's John Bassett Theatre. In all, a record 1.8 million votes
were received via text-messaging and toll-free telephone.
Last night's Motown-themed episode, featuring a special performance
by singing legends The Temptations, achieved the second highest
audience yet when 2.125 million viewers (2+) watched. The show peaked
at 2.3 million viewers during the second half-hour.* The series
remains Canada's most-watched show in all demos.
In tonight's show, which featured a special appearance by diva Mariah
Carey, it was announced that Bustos, 22; Hamilton, 26 and Calgary's
Billy Klippert, 26, had received the least amount of votes. While
Bustos and Hamilton were eliminated, Klippert returns next week to
perform in Canadian Idol's Summer Hits-themed episode. In the
episode, the six remaining finalists travel to Canada's largest
summer fair, the Canadian National Exhibition.
In addition to Klippert, the remaining finalists are Toya Alexis, 23,
Ajax, ON; Gary Beals, 20, Dartmouth, NS; Jenny Gear, 21, Carbonear,
NF; Ryan Malcolm, 23, Kingston, ON and Audrey de Montigny, 18, Ste.
Julienne, QC. From here on in, one will be eliminated each week until
the first Canadian Idol is crowned on Sept. 16.
That's not good. I'll upload Toya's audio clip to this group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canadian_idol_media
Join that group and the file should be up in a few minutes.

Ehhh. Tonight's show wasn't very good. I'm not that motivated to post
all the mp3s up right now. I'll post Toya's and Ryan's performances
up tonight. If I feel better later, I'll post more up.

Toronto, Ontario (August 5, 2003) - Candida Clauseri, Richie Wilcox
and Karen-Lee Batten are the first three finalists to be eliminated
from Canadian Idol, it was revealed tonight live on CTV. The
threesome received the least amount of votes following Monday's first-
ever live performance episode, held before a sold-out audience at
Toronto's John Bassett Theatre. In all, 1.6 million votes were
tallied following the show, the most so far. With their elimination,
each of the three competitors return to their respective hometowns
Thursday, leaving behind eight finalists competing for the crown of
Canadian Idol.
The holiday Monday 90-minute special episode was watched by 1.72
million viewers (2+), not including the 1,100 screaming fans that
packed the theatre. The show peaked at over two million viewers
during the last half-hour.* The series remains Canada's most-watched
show in all demos.

It was announced on tonight's show that superstar diva Mariah Carey
would visit with the remaining eight Idols on next Tuesday's (Aug.
12) results show.
The Temptations Join Celine Dion
as CTV Announces Canadian Idol "Top 11" Theme Shows
-- 90-minute "Canadian Hits" episode kicks off live performances this
Monday, Aug. 4 --
Toronto, Ontario (August 1, 2003) – Canadian Idol moves to a whole
new stage, literally, this Monday, Aug. 4 with the first of seven,
live, themed performance episodes from Toronto's John Bassett Theatre
and featuring some of the biggest names in the music industry.
International superstar Céline Dion and Motown legends The
Temptations are just two of the acts booked to share the stage with
Canadian Idol competitors in the themed episodes, the first of which
is "Canadian Hits." The 90-minute special episode, the first to be
broadcast live from Toronto in front of a sold-out studio audience of
over 1,000, begins at a new one-time only timeslot of 7:30 p.m. ET
(tape delayed in BC, AB and SK; check local listings) on CTV.
CTV takes an in-depth look at Canadian Idol's "Top 11" in an
additional half-hour special on Monday, Aug. 4. Canadian Idol
Preview, which documents the journey taken by the final 11
competitors from their first audition to the moment they were
announced as a finalist, airs at 7 p.m. ET (check local listings) on
CTV.
From Motown to the beach, the last seven episodes of Canadian Idol
will showcase a different theme each week. And in many of the
episodes, special guests who represent the theme will appear. Below
is a tentative outline of some of the theme shows:
August 4 / "Canadian Hits": Canadian Idol's Top 11 perform an all-
Canadian show with a salute to some of this country's most celebrated
and successful musicians.
August 11 / "Motown": Special guests The Temptations get things
grooving with a Motown medley of greatest hits while Canadian Idol
competitors show their soul.
August 18 / "Summertime Hits": The most-watched show of the summer
gives tribute to the most-listened-to summertime classics with
Canadian Idol's six remaining competitors.
August 25 / TBA
September 1 / "Love Songs": Canadian Idol's Top 4 head to Vegas for a
lesson in love from chanteuse Céline Dion. Back in Toronto, they put
their knowledge to the test on stage in competition.
September 8 / "My Own Idol": The Top 3 performs songs made famous by
their own, personal idols.
September 15 / The first half of Canadian Idol's two-part grand
finale, tonight's the night Canadians choose the first-ever Canadian
Idol.
Canadian Idol is the number one program in Canada this summer in all
demos. The Monday night performance episode is consistently the most-
watched show of the week and Tuesday's results show also ranks in the
Top 10. This Tuesday's results show attracted 1.24 million viewers
(2+).*
Tickets to Canadian Idol's live performance and results shows are
available at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.ca
or by telephone (check local listings). Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m.
on the Tuesday prior to each week's shows and sell out quickly.
Group, I need your help!
I'm working on a Canadian Idol website and have been having trouble
with some of the audio. I need the top 30 performances of Karen-Lee
Batten ("Come Away With Me") and Tyler Hamilton ("Don't Let The Sun
Go Down on Me"). I will be forever greatful if someone could email
those mp3's to me. My email address is jv3377@...
Thank you!
Jessica :)
The mp3s of last Monday's performances are now posted on
idolforums.com. Their audio is of better quality than mine, though I
don't think they include the judges' comments in their clips. Please

Canada's experiment in U.S.-style celebrity goes awry
Ben Mulroney's 'mad flavour' line just the beginning
Scott Feschuk
National Post
Wednesday, July 09, 2003
We reside in a vast country comprised of diverse peoples who possess
strong and varied opinions, but I believe I've found just the thing
to unite all Canadians. It is a simple statement -- a declaration of
a viewpoint that will, I am confident, be embraced by conservative
and liberal, by men and women, and perhaps even by certain of our
more intelligent domestic animals.
We, the people of Canada, do solemnly and of unified mind declare
that Ben Mulroney, a man who comes across as so profoundly Caucasian
that we suspect he routinely applies Crest White Strips to his
personality, ought never, ever, ever again to publicly utter the
phrase, "It's all about mad flavour!"
Ben spoke these words, awkwardly and unwisely, on Monday night while
hosting CTV's hit series Canadian Idol -- or, as it is now destined
to be called, The Show Formerly Known as Not Sucking. The first four
episodes of CI were frenetically paced and rife with conflict, drama
and deluded crooners in snug trousers massacring Air Supply ballads.
The show felt big and it felt vital; more impressive still, it felt
equal in scope and promotional savvy to its American parent.
And then CTV went and filmed Monday's episode in Lloyd Robertson's
rec room. That's how it felt, anyway. A cramped, antiseptic set. A
solitary pianist on hand to accompany the gaudy vocalizing of the
first batch of 10 finalists. And nary a sweaty, shrieking teenage
girl to pledge her heart and temporary use of her groin to any, or
perhaps to each, of the aspiring pop tarts. After every song, all you
could hear was a smattering of applause from rivals back in the Idol
Lounge. And the hum of the stage lights. And, if you listened
closely, a faint murmur that might have been Lloyd gamely offering to
mix up a pitcher of martinis.
During the course of Monday's hour, Canadian Idol was transformed.
The competitors no longer seemed part of a vibrant and weirdly
transfixing national phenomenon. They seemed more like the 3 a.m. act
on the Jerry Lewis telethon. Or a cabaret troupe that was whiling
away its time in subterranean quarantine.
Make no mistake: Were this show not a franchise of the hugely
successful U.S. series, it would be a ratings flatliner by next week.
These were production values that had been absent from the Canadian
screen since the sad demise of Tiny Talent Time, which if memory
serves was shot on a weekly budget of $14 -- $14.25 if one of the
kids accidentally dropped a quarter in the change room.
For Canadian Idol viewers, the only relief from the sterile,
claustrophobic, cable-access confines came during the Obligatory
Product Placement Segment, when correspondent Tanya Kim took us on a
tour of something called the L'Oréal Beauty Studio, a place "where
all of our contestants get an extra-special boost of style and
confidence."
(Note to contestants: In real life, you will not be able to afford
L'Oréal beauty products. But don't fret. You can obtain a
similar "extra-special boost of style and confidence" from a
different, cheaper product. It's called "beer.")
Ever the generous host, Lloyd had the gang over again last night for
Canadian Idol's first live broadcast -- a gaffe-ridden half-hour show
on which the results of nationwide voting were revealed, seven of the
10 performers were summarily evicted from the rec room and, by virtue
of comparison, Ryan Seacrest grew immeasurably in the national esteem.
Moving on to the next round are Candida Clauseri, who did a good
impression of Whitney Houston; Mikey Bustos, who did a good, if
unnecessary, impression of Dan Hill; and Billy Klippert, who in a
truly civilized country would instead have been rewarded with
corporal punishment for singing a song by The Carpenters. Also, Billy
shook his right hand around a lot, a gesture that's a solid early
contender for Getting Old Fast.
Had his continued presence on the show been on the ballot, Ben may
also have been sent packing, if only for the slickster manner in
which he introduced the show's female judge: "This lady could judge
me anytime: the right honourable Sass Jordan!" It made for a peculiar
kind of déjà vu for Canadians of a certain age -- a Mulroney making
with the patronage and indiscriminately handing out the lofty titles.
