This group is for residents & property owners of Church Hill North Old & Historic District.
Church Hill is one of the few existing neighborhoods in the United States with a high concentration of antebellum and 18th century architecture. It is important to preserve these structures and for new development to compliment, not clash with it's surroundings.
Church Hill North became a city designated historic district zoning overlay in response to many of our neighbors' desire to keep the historic character of the area intact. Our neighborhood is not well protected against demolition or delinquent properties, and there is very little we can do to control new development. With a historic designation in place, our neighborhood will grow responsibly while protecting the historic charm and beauty that makes Church Hill such a desirable place to live. We all benefit greatly from this designation. We were granted the designation by a unanimous vote from Richmond City Council on May 29, 2007.
